New Testament Survey (Book of Hebrews)

“NEW TESTAMENT SURVEY” (Hebrews)

INTRO:

The book of Hebrews is commonly believed to have been written by the Apostle Paul. This book begins in a way that is a bit different than his other books though it ends similarly. As we know all scripture is inspired of God. All scripture is profitable for Doctrine.

2Ti 3:16  All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
2Ti 3:17  That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

So the actual writer is not as important as the truth of God’s Word. It was extremely tough on a Jew to give up his beliefs in Judaism and convert to a Christian. A Jew would be immediately treated as a dead person, treated as they did not exist and could not find work. They would be thrown out of their worship centers. EXCOMMUNICATED, Expelled or separated from communion with a church, and a participation of its ordinances, rights and privileges.

The “THEME” of the Book of Hebrews is “BETTER THINGS”. Things are better with Jesus Christ! IT’S THE WISE CHOICE.

The Book of Hebrews was written to “ENCOURAGE THE JEWS” and all CHRISTIANS.

Act 15:9  And put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

Rom 3:22  Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
Rom 3:23  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

Rom 10:12  For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

I.) JESUS IS “SUPERIOR” TO THE ANGELS!

Heb 1:4  Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.

     a.) The Contrast:

Heb 1:1  God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers [by the prophets],
Heb 1:2  Hath in these last days spoken unto us [by his Son], whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

We can see that no matter who God spoke through in the past, HE NOW SPEAKS TO US THROUGH HIS SON JESUS. Jesus is “Heir” to “ALL” things. It is Jesus who will set on the throne of David.

Luk 1:32  He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:
Luk 1:33  And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

It is Jesus who will rule the government!

Isa 9:6  For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Isa 9:7  Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
Isa 9:8  The Lord sent a word into Jacob, and it hath lighted upon Israel.

     b.) THE WARNING:

Heb 2:1  [Therefore] we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.

The word [therefore] refers back to the previous scripture,

(because God speaks through His Son)

Heb 2:2  [For if the word spoken by angels was stedfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just recompence of reward];

If the word of God spoken by His angels was steadfast and sure, “THEN THEREFORE” WE HAD BETTER PAY ATTENTION TO THE WORDS SPOKEN OF JESUS CHRIST HIS SON!

Heb 2:3  [How shall we escape], if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

FOR HOW COULD WE ESCAPE! BY “NEGLECTING” SO GREAT A SALVATION.

God does not waste scripture. There is no wasted Word of God. Jesus Christ is just THE MORE IMPORTANT. [Therefore] we need to give more earnest heed to Jesus.

Isa 45:17  But Israel shall be saved in the LORD with an everlasting salvation: ye shall not be ashamed nor confounded world without end.
Isa 45:18  For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.
Isa 45:19  I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I the LORD speak righteousness, I declare things that are right.

     c.) THE HUMILTY OF JESUS:

Heb 2:16  [For verily he took not on him the nature of angels]; (but he took on him the seed of Abraham).
Heb 2:17  Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

God could just as easily have come as an angel but GOD CHOSE to come to us in the same flesh that we carry every day.

Php 2:5  Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
Php 2:6  Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
Php 2:7  But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
Php 2:8  And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Php 2:9  Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
Php 2:10  That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
Php 2:11  And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

II.) JESUS IS “SUPERIOR” TO MOSES!

Heb 3:3  For this man was counted worthy of more glory than Moses, inasmuch as he who hath builded the house hath more honour than the house.
Heb 3:4  For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.

To the Jew, Moses was the greatest man that ever lived. A “prophet” in fact in the Book of Psalms he is said to be chief of prophets.

a.) Jesus Christ is the “True” servant.

Heb 3:5  And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, [as a servant], for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after;
Heb 3:6  But Christ [as a son] over his own house; [whose house are we], if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.

Moses was a servant, and a great man but, JESUS CHRIST “AS THE SON” OF GOD WAS A “TRUE” SERVANT.

Php 2:7  But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

Joh 8:35  And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.

HE WILL ABIDE FOREVER IN HIS HOUSE. (whose house are we)

     b.) THE WARNING:

Heb 3:7  Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, [To day if ye will hear his voice],
Heb 3:8  [Harden not your hearts], as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness:

The Holy Ghost says [the very day] you hear the truth of the Lord Jesus Christ, THEN THAT DAY “TODAY” IS THE DAY OF SALVATION. If you wait then it could be to late!

III.) JESUS IS “SUPERIOR” TO THE HIGH PRIESTS!

Heb 4:14  Seeing then that [we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens], Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.
Heb 4:15  For [we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities]; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.
Heb 4:16  Let us [therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace], that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

a.) Jesus is greater than Aaron:

Heb 5:1  For [every high priest taken from among men] is ordained for men in things pertaining to God, that he may offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins:
Heb 5:2  Who can have compassion on the ignorant, and on them that are out of the way; for that [he himself also is compassed with infirmity].
Heb 5:3  And [by reason hereof he ought, as for the people, so also for himself, to offer for sins].
Heb 5:4  [And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God, as was Aaron].
Heb 5:5  [So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee].

As the “sin free” Son of God, Christ had no infirmities. Jesus Christ had and “HAS” no sin to repent of. Christ was also called of God as the scripture shows. The High Priest could only go in the Holy of Holies once a year. The  High Priest had a special dress code to meet. He also had to present the blood of an innocent animal before he entered in, “BUT” all High Priests tied a rope to their leg just in case they had failed in some way, for God would strike them dead and the rope was used to pull them back out. They had bells on the seams of their garments so they could be heard when they were moving. If no bells were heard then those outside the Holy of Holies would pull the rope to get them out.

     b.) The Appeal:

Heb 6:12  That ye be not slothful, [but followers of them who through faith] and patience inherit the promises.
Heb 6:13  For when God made promise to Abraham, [because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself],

YOU CANNOT GET ANY HIGHER THAN JEHOVAH GOD.

Psa 50:14  Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High:
Psa 50:15  And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.

IV.) JESUS IS “SUPERIOR” TO MELCHISEDEK!

Heb 7:22  By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.

     a.) The greatness of Melchizedek:

Heb 7:1  For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, [priest of the most high God], who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him;
Heb 7:2  [To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all]; first being by interpretation [King of righteousness], and after that also [King of Salem], which is, [King of peace];
Heb 7:3  [Without father], [without mother], [without descent], [having neither beginning of days, nor end of life]; (but made like unto the Son of God); [abideth a priest continually].

Gen 14:18  And [Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God].
Gen 14:19  And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth:
Gen 14:20  And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all.

The Jewish people had a special reverence for Melchizedek. Melchizedek set up a great feast, somewhat similar to the Lord’s Supper and fed the returning army of Abraham. Was this the reincarnate Son of God of the Old Testament. Many believe it is and it very well could be.

“But” IT IS JESUS THAT IS MADE SURITY BY A BETTER TESTAMENT.

b.) There is a New Priesthood:

Heb 7:11  If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) [what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec], and not be called after the order of Aaron?
Heb 7:12  [For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law].

We now have the priesthood of the believer made possible by GOD’S NEW LAW OF “GRACE”.

Heb 4:16  Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

c.) It is a PERMANENT PRIESTHOOD:

Heb 7:24  But this man, [because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood].
Heb 7:25  Wherefore [he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him], [seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them].

d.) It is a PERFECT PRIESTHOOD!

Heb 7:26  For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;
Heb 7:27  Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people’s: [for this he did once, when he offered up himself].

e.) Because it is a PERFECT COVENANT!

Heb 8:1  Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: [We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens];
Heb 8:2  [A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched], and not man.
Heb 8:3  [For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer].
Heb 8:4  [For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest], (seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law:
Heb 8:5  Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount).
Heb 8:6  [But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises].
Heb 8:7  For if that first covenant had been faultless, [then should no place have been sought for the second].

GRACE, GRACE, GOD’S GRACE.

V.) JESUS IS THE “SUPERIOR” SACRIFICE!

a.) The “Limits” of the old sacrifice:

Heb 9:9  Which was a figure for the time then present, in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices, that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the conscience;
Heb 9:10  Which stood only in meats and drinks, and divers washings, and carnal ordinances, imposed on them until the time of reformation.

This sacrifice was good only for a year and was continuous one year at a time.

b.) The “perfection” of the “new sacrifice”:

Heb 9:11  But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;
Heb 9:12  Neither by the blood of goats and calves, [but by his own blood] he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

Zec 3:9  For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes: behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, saith the LORD of hosts, and [I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day].

One day the day of the Cross.

1Pe 1:18  Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
1Pe 1:19  But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

     c.) THE GREAT SACRIFICE:

Heb 9:13  For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:
Heb 9:14  [How much more shall the blood of Christ], [who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God]?
Heb 9:15  And for this cause [he is the mediator of the new testament], that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, [they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance].

VI.) The Hall of Fame of “FAITH”:

Chapter 11:1-40 Please read.

Eph 2:8  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Eph 2:9  Not of works, lest any man should boast.

     a.) The “definition” of FAITH:

Heb 11:1 [Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen].
Heb 11:2  For by it the elders obtained a good report.
Heb 11:3  Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

     b.) The Examples:

Heb 11:4  By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain,

Heb 11:5  By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death

Heb 11:7  By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house;

Heb 11:8  By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

Heb 11:11  Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed,

Heb 11:17  By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac:

And many more:

Heb 11:32  And what shall I more say? [for the time would fail me] to tell of Gedeon, and of Barak, and of Samson, and of Jephthae; of David also, and Samuel, and of the prophets:
Heb 11:33  [Who through faith subdued kingdoms], [wrought righteousness], [obtained promises], [stopped the mouths of lions],
Heb 11:34  [Quenched the violence of fire], [escaped the edge of the sword], [out of weakness were made strong], [waxed valiant in fight], [turned to flight the armies of the aliens].

IF WE HAD THE FAITH OF THE LOWLY MUSTARD SEED MAYBE WE COULD ACCOMPLISH MORE FOR GOD!

JESUS SAID:

Luk 17:6  And the Lord said, [If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed], ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.

Mat 17:20  And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, [If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed], ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

IF WE JUST HAD JUST A LITTLE FAITH THE CHURCH COULD NOT BE STOPPED.

c.) WE MUST SERVE THE BEST WE CAN!

Heb 12:1  [Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses], [let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us],
Heb 12:2  Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

wherefore: (for this reason)

We know that clouds are in the sky. Is God telling us that these who had so much faith in the book of Hebrews are watching and witnessing to see if we have such faith OR ANY FAITH.

Then we need to lay aside anything that keeps us from serving God through the Lord Jesus Christ.

Beset means: To surround; to inclose; to hem in; to besiege; as, we are beset with enemies; a city is beset with troops. Hence, To press on all sides, so as to perplex; to entangle, so as to render escape difficult or impossible.

“AND GET IN THE RACE”!

VII.) THE IMPORTANCE OF FAITH:

Heb 11:6  But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Heb 10:23  Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)
Heb 10:24  And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:
Heb 10:25  Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

1Th 1:3  Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;
1Th 1:4  Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God.

     a.) The Preacher/Teacher RESPONSIBILTIY:

[let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us],

1Co 9:24  Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.

Rom 13:13  Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.
Rom 13:14  But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

2Co 7:1  Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

2Ti 2:4  No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

IF I DO NOT PROTECT MY TESTIMONY THEN HOW CAN I EXPECT OTHERS TO BELIEVE WHAT I SAY ABOUT GOD’S WORD.

     b.) THE HEARERS RESPONSIBILTIY:

Heb 4:2  For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: [but the word preached did not profit them, (not being mixed with faith) in them that heard it].

IF GOD’S WORD IS NOT MIXED WITH FAITH THEN IT WILL BE OF NO PROFIT TO THOSE THAT HEAR.

Luk 11:28  But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

Joh 13:17  If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.

Ecc 12:13  Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: [for this is the whole duty of man].

Amen

New Testament Survey (The Epistles)

“NEW TESTAMENT SURVEY”(The Epistles)

INTRO:

The Epistles are all the Books of the Bible in the New Testament  except the Gospels, (Matthew, Mark, Luke, & John) and of course the Book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ, Our Lord. When it comes to Missionaries the Apostle Paul was a great Missionary but in the true sense of the word, Paul was more a Church planter. A missionary will go to a place and start a church and then usually become the pastor of that church. The Apostle Paul would begin a church and once it was started he would move on the start other churches. The “Epistles” are letters of correspondence to those Churches.

I.) The Book of Philippians:

Philippi:

Formerly Crenides, “the fountain,” the capital of the province of Macedonia. It stood near the head of the Sea, about 8 miles north-west of Cavalla. It is now a ruined village, called Philibedjik. Philip of Macedonia fortified the old Thracian town of Crenides, and called it after his own name Philippi (359-336 B.C.). In the time of the Emperor Augustus this city became a Roman colony, i.e., a military settlement of Roman soldiers, there planted for the purpose of controlling the district recently conquered. It was a “miniature Rome,” under the municipal law of Rome, and governed by military officers, called duumvir, who were appointed directly from Rome. Having been providentially guided thither, here Paul and his companion Silas preached the gospel and formed the first church in Europe. This success stirred up the enmity of the people, and they were “shamefully entreated” (Acts 16:9-40). Paul and Silas at length left this city and proceeded to Amphipolis.

Act 16:9  And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us.

Act 16:14  And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.
Act 16:15  And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.

1Th 2:2  But even after that we had suffered before, and were shamefully entreated, as ye know, at Philippi, we were bold in our God to speak unto you the gospel of God with much contention.

a.) Philippi was a wicked city.

The Satriae tribe had the oracle of Dionysus, the Thracian prophet god.

The worship of Dionysus was savage and ecstatic, his votaries participated in orgia in which live animals (usually a spotted fawn, a goat, an ox or a bull) were torn apart and devoured raw. It was believed that the god entered the worshippers and possessed them through this Eucharist of living flesh, called the Omophagia. Animal skins and masks were worn, and a bull-roarer (rhombus) was used to simulate the thundering of Zeus.
b.) The Book to the Philippians is basically a THANK YOU letter to this church.
Php 1:3  I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,
Php 1:4  Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy,
Php 1:5  For your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now;
Php 1:6  Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:
c.) This church was started down by a river side.
Act 16:13  And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.
The number of Jews in Philippi was small, since it was a military and not a mercantile city; consequently there was no synagogue, but only a proseucha, or praying-place, a slight structure, and often open to the sky. It was outside the gate, for the sake of retirement, and near a stream, because of the ablutions connected with the worship.
II.) The Book of Colossians:
Colossae
Or Colosse, a city of Phrygia, on the Lycus, which is a tributary of the Maeander. It was about 12 miles above Laodicea, and near the great road from Ephesus to the Euphrates, and was consequently of some mercantile importance. It does not appear that Paul had visited this city when he wrote his letter to the church there (Col_1:2). He expresses in his letter to Philemon (Col_1:22) his hope to visit it on being delivered from his imprisonment. From Col_1:7; Col_4:12 it has been concluded that Epaphras was the founder of the Colossian church. This town afterwards fell into decay, and the modern town of Chonas or Chonum occupies a site near its ruins.
a.) The book is perfectly divided into two sections. (2 chapters Doctrinal and 2 chapters Practical for a total of 4 chapters).
We need to what we believe and why we believe what we do before we can actually be true witnesses of Christ.
Joh 7:16  Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.
Joh 7:17  If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.

Col 1:5  For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;
Col 1:6  Which is come unto you, as it is in all the world; and bringeth forth fruit, as it doth also in you, since the day ye heard of it, and knew the grace of God in truth:
Col 2:6  As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him:
Col 2:7  Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving.
Practical:
Col 3:1  If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.
Col 3:2  Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.
Col 3:3  For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God.
Col 4:1  Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven.
Col 4:2  Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;
c.) This Book teaches “How to Grow into Mature Christians”
Col 1:21  And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled
Col 1:22  In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:
Col 1:23  If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;
Col 2:16  Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
Col 2:17  Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
Col 2:18  Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
Col 2:19  And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.
Col 2:20  Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,
Col 2:21  (Touch not; taste not; handle not;
Col 2:22  Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men?
Col 2:23  Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.

III.) I Thessalonians:
Thessalonica
A large and populous city on the Thermaic bay. It was the capital of one of the four Roman districts of Macedonia, and was ruled by a praetor. It was named after Thessalonica, the wife of Cassander, who built the city. She was so called by her father, Philip, because he first heard of her birth on the day of his gaining a victory over the Thessalians. On his second missionary journey, Paul preached in the synagogue here, the chief synagogue of the Jews in that part of Macedonia, and laid the foundations of a church (Act_17:1-4; 1Th_1:9). The violence of the Jews drove him from the city, when he fled to Berea (Act_17:5-10). The “rulers of the city” before whom the Jews “drew Jason,” with whom Paul and Silas lodged, are in the original called politarchai, an unusual word, which was found, however, inscribed on an arch in Thessalonica. This discovery confirms the accuracy of the historian. Paul visited the church here on a subsequent occasion (Act_20:1-3). This city long retained its importance. It is the most important town of European Turkey, under the name of Saloniki, with a mixed population of about 85,000.
a.) This letter was given to new Christians to “Encourage Growth”.
1Th 1:3  Remembering without ceasing your work of faith, and labour of love, and patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ, in the sight of God and our Father;
1Th 1:4  Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God.
b.) Paul and Silas were only here for a month and then run out of town.
Act 17:2  And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and [three sabbath days] reasoned with them out of the scriptures,
Act 17:10  And [the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea]: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.
c.) This is one of the most practical letters in the Bible.
1Th 3:12  And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you:
1Th 3:13  To the end he may stablish your hearts unblameable in holiness before God, even our Father, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ with all his saints.
1Th 4:1  Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.
1Th 4:2  For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus.
1Th 4:3  For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:
1Th 4:4  That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;
1Th 4:5  Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:
1Th 4:6  That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified.
1Th 4:7  For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.
1Th 4:8  He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us his holy Spirit.
1Th 4:9  But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another.

IV.) II Thessalonians:
Paul gets a little deeper here but remains practical.
a.) This letter was to give them information about the coming of Christ.
2Th 1:7  And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
2Th 1:8  In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
2Th 2:1  Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
2Th 2:2  That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
b.) Paul also writes to tell them that the work for Jesus Christ must start.
2Th 1:11  Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power:
2Th 1:12  That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
2Th 2:7  For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.
2Th 2:8  And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
2Th 2:9  Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
2Th 2:10  And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
2Th 2:11  And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
2Th 2:12  That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.
c.) Paul tries to teach them to maintain christian standards:
2Th 2:15  Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.
2Th 2:16  Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,
2Th 2:17  Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.
V.) I & II Timothy:
a.) This book is the “Manual” for Christian LEADERS.
1Ti 3:1  This is a true saying, If a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
1Ti 3:2  A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
1Ti 3:3  Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;
1Ti 3:4  One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;
1Ti 3:5  (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)
1Ti 3:6  Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.
1Ti 3:7  Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.
1Ti 3:8  Likewise must the deacons be grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;
1Ti 3:9  Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.
1Ti 3:10  And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.
b.) How to teach the elements of prayer and SOUND DOCTRINE.
1Ti 4:6  If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.
c.) HOW TO HAVE THE RIGHT ATTITUDE.
1Ti 5:21  I charge thee before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without preferring one before another, doing nothing by partiality.
1Ti 6:3  If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness;
1Ti 6:4  He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings,
1Ti 6:5  Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
1Ti 6:6  But godliness with contentment is great gain.
1Ti 6:7  For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
VI.) Titus
a.) This book teaches the importance of a good home life.
Tit 1:6  If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.
Tit 1:7  For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;
Tit 1:8  But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;
Tit 1:9  Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.
b.) The importance of Spiritual Leadership.
Tit 1:9  Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.
Tit 1:10  For there are many unruly and vain talkers and deceivers, specially they of the circumcision:
Tit 1:11  Whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole houses, teaching things which they ought not, for filthy lucre’s sake.
c.) Consistency
A standing together, as the parts of a system, or of conduct, &c.; agreement or harmony of all parts of a complex thing among themselves, or of the same thing with itself at different times; congruity; uniformity; as the consistency of laws, regulations or judicial decisions; consistency of opinion; consistency of behavior or of character.

There is harmony and consistency in all Gods works.
Tit 3:8  This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.
Tit 3:14  And let ours also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful.
VII.) Philemon:
a.) This is a story of a runaway slave.
Phm 1:10  I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds:

Phm 1:12  Whom I have sent again: thou therefore receive him, that is, mine own bowels:
Phm 1:13  Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered unto me in the bonds of the gospel:
Phm 1:14  But without thy mind would I do nothing; that thy benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but willingly.
Phm 1:15  For perhaps he therefore departed for a season, that thou shouldest receive him for ever;

b.) This is a story of a changed life:
Phm 1:11  Which in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me:
Phm 1:16  Not now as a servant, but above a servant, a brother beloved, specially to me, but how much more unto thee, both in the flesh, and in the Lord?
Phm 1:17  If thou count me therefore a partner, receive him as myself.
c.) This a story of SUBSTITUTION.
In Typology this story gives us a picture of our Lord Jesus Christ:
Phm 1:18  If he hath wronged thee, or oweth thee ought, put that on mine account;
When Jesus Christ interceded on our behalf (and He still does) He told God the Father to put all my sins and yours on HIS ACCOUNT. JESUS PAID IT ALL.
I was “unprofitable”, a worthless sinner!
I’m now a Borned Again child of God.
Thank you Father and Christ my Lord!
Jesus was my “substitute” and SUBSTITUTE FOR EVERY ONE IN THE WORLD. WE MUST ONLY “BELIEVE.”
Act 8:36  And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
Act 8:37  And Philip said, [If thou believest with all thine heart], thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

Ain’t God Good.

Amen

New Testament Survey (Book of Galatians and Ephesians)

“NEW TESTAMENT SURVEY” (Books of Galatians and Ephesians)

INTRO:

We need to thank God for His wonderful words. God has given us His word of His SAVING GRACE. God has given us His words of DIRECTION for our lives. GOD HAS PRESERVED HIS WORD FOR ALL TO COME TO THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE SAVING GRACE OF “JESUS CHRIST” THE SAVIOUR. In these two Books we see the Holy Ghost preserved word of the Apostle Paul. Notice when we write a letter we sign them at the end. The Apostle Paul always lets us know from the beginning of his letters.

THE BOOK OF GALATIONS:

I.) Paul teaches us the “necessity” of  STRONG REBUKE.

Gal 1:6  I marvel that ye are so soon removed from [him that called you into the grace of Christ] [unto another gospel:
Gal 1:7  Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ].
Gal 1:8  But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, [let him be accursed].
Gal 1:9  As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, [let him be accursed].

We are in the last days before the Rapture of the church. We must HEAR the TRUTH!.THE LOST OF THIS WORLD MUST HEAR THE TRUTH! God did not send his word to tickle the ears. Those that change the word of God for any reason are a cause for many not to trust God’s word and go to hell. (You know “that [He] that called you” is the Holy Ghost of God Himself)!

1Co 1:24  But unto [them which are called], both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

Col 3:15  And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the [which also ye are called] in one body; and be ye thankful.

Heb 9:15  And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, [they which are called might] receive the promise of eternal inheritance.

We must also remember this verse:

Mat 22:14  [For many are called, but few are chosen].

And this one:

Rev 17:14  These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and [they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful].

***Notice in this short passage the word “accursed” is used twice. God is serious about the use of His word.

II.) Paul teaches the destruction of LEGALISM.

Gal 3:1  O foolish Galatians, who hath bewitched you, that ye should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been evidently set forth, crucified among you?
Gal 3:2  This only would I learn of you, Received ye the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?
Gal 3:3  Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?

Because of the “Liberalism” growing in the Church, many have swung to the far left and become “Legalist”. Adding to the word of God the laws of man.

The Legalist are not right they add to the word of God.

Such as:

(He can’t be right with God, he wears wire rimmed glasses)

(He can’t be right with God, he drives a red car)

(He can’t be right with God, he wears blue jeans to church)

etc……..

The Liberals are not right, THEY TAKE AWAY FROM GOD’S WORD.

such as:

(Denying the Resurrection)
(Denying the Blood Atonement)
(Denying the VIRGIN birth)

etc……..

The TRUTH is somewhere in between these two.

THE TRUTH IS IN THE RIGHTLY DIVIDING GOD’S HOLY WORD!

Rev 22:17  And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
Rev 22:18  For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, [If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:]
Rev 22:19  And [if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.]
Rev 22:20  He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

III.) The Apostle Paul teaches us the PURPOSE of the LAW.

Gal 3:24  Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
Gal 3:25  But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.
Gal 3:26  For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.
Gal 3:27  For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.

The PURPOSE of the Law is to drive us to Christ. Those laws show us that we are all sinners. If then we are sinners “WE ARE IN NEED OF A SAVIOUR”. That “SAVIOUR” is Jesus Christ.

Joh 14:6  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

A good way of illustration is to look at the way a carpenter chooses his lumber. After finding a straight board he will then use that board to compare each and every other board. HE WILL REJECT THOSE THAT ARE NOT STRAIGHT!

Those laws of Moses are our straight board. If we cannot compare 100% to those laws (No One Can) then we are sinners BOUND FOR HELL! Only the saving grace of God can change that FACT.

THE PURPOSE OF THOSE COMMANDMENTS OR LAWS “ARE TO DRIVE US TO JESUS CHRIST”.

IV.) Paul teaches us our POSITION WITH GOD:

Or “Where do we stand in the eyes of God”?

Gal 3:13  [Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law], being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
Gal 3:14  That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

We are not bound by those laws that can not be kept. We do as Christians have certain liberties BUT WE DO NOT HAVE THE LIBERTY TO SIN AT OUR OWN WILL!

2Co 3:15  But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.
2Co 3:16  Nevertheless when it shall turn to the Lord, the vail shall be taken away.
2Co 3:17  Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

BUT:

1Co 8:9  But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.

There are those that think they can lead a sinful life but:

2Pe 2:19  While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.
2Pe 2:20  For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning.

Our Liberty is for the work of God Only:

1Pe 2:15  For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:
1Pe 2:16  As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.

And:

Gal 5:13  For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.
Gal 5:14  For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

V.) Paul teaches us that the ENEMY (Satan) WILL TELL ME WHAT I WANT TO HEAR!

Gal 4:16  Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?

THE DEVIL WILL MAKE IT SEEM LIKE THE SAINTS OF GOD ARE THE ENEMIES OF THIS WORLD. THE TRUTH WILL ALWAYS STING. THE TRUTH WILL ALWAYS WARN ME AGAINST THE ACTIONS OF THE DEVIL.

2Ti 4:3  For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
2Ti 4:4  And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

WE CAN SEE THIS HAPPENING EVERYWHERE IN THE WORLD AND ESPECIALLY IN AMERICA, IN OUR OWN COMMUNITIES.

COULD THIS BE NEXT:

Stephen:

Act 7:57  Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord,

Or will the Lost say this:

Act 17:20  For thou bringest certain strange things to our ears: we would know therefore what these things mean.

IS THIS NOT THE CHURCH OF AMERICA NOW!

Rev 3:14  And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
Rev 3:15  I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
Rev 3:16  So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
Rev 3:17  Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
Rev 3:18  I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
Rev 3:19  As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

BEHOLD:

Rev 3:20  Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

WAKE UP AMERICA, WAKE UP WORLD!

VI.) Paul teaches us the truth about GRACE.

Gal 5:13  For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.

We cannot hold to any law for our salvation except the Law of Grace.

Joh 1:14  And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Joh 1:15  John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.
Joh 1:16  And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.
Joh 1:17  For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.

Tit 2:11  For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
Tit 2:12  Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
Tit 2:13  Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
Tit 2:14  Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

YOU KNOW JESUS TAKES THAT “WANT TO SIN AWAY”. If you still want to sin and do, then maybe you need to go back to the Altar of God.

VII.) PAUL TEACHES US THE TRUTH ABOUT SPIRITUALITY!

Gal 6:1  Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, [ye which are spiritual], restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.

If we are truly filled with God’s Holy Spirit then we will not condemn those that fall but encourage them and help them back into God’s GRACE.

Jesus said:

Luk 6:40  The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master.
Luk 6:41  And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
Luk 6:42  Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother’s eye.

THE BOOK OF EPHESIANS

I.) HERE PAUL TEACHES US THE IMPORTANCE OF THE BLOOD:

Eph 1:7  In whom [we have redemption through his blood], the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;

The Religions of today make light of “the BLOOD OF JESUS”.

You know if Christ had died of a heart attack, WE WOULD STILL BE GOING TO HELL.

If Christ had drowned in a pool, WE WOULD STILL BE GOING TO HELL.

If Christ had died of old age, WE WOULD STILL BE GOING TO HELL.

IT WAS THE BLOOD OF JESUS THAT WASHED OUR SIN AWAY.

Heb 9:22  And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and [without shedding of blood is no remission].

Rom 3:25  Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation [through faith in his blood], to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

JESUS SAID:

Mat 26:28  For [this is my blood] of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

IN THE DAYS OF ADAM AND EVE GOD SHED THE BLOOD OF ANIMALS TO COVER THAT VERY FIRST SIN:

Gen 3:21  Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

TO CHRIST OUR LORD:

Rev 1:5  And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. [Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood],

II.) THE CHURCH IS NOW THE CHOSEN PEOPLE OF GOD:

Eph 2:19  Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and [of the household of God];

All covenants with the Jewish people will still be kept. After the Rapture of the Church the covenant of Grace will end for the Gentiles. The Church age will be over.

The Chosen of God:

1Pe 2:9  But [ye are a chosen generation], a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
1Pe 2:10  Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

IT’S NOT IMPORTANT WHERE YOU COME FROM IT IS “ONLY IMPORTANT WHERE YOU ARE GOING”!

III.) THE APOSTLE PAUL TEACHES “DISPENSATIONAL TRUTH”.

Eph 3:2  If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:

The word dispensation is not always liked in many congregations and by church leaders but the Apostle Paul taught it well. If you go into most public restroom you will see a little box on the wall with a handle of some kind. If you push that handle you will be dispensed a liquid soap to wash your hands. That box is called a dispenser. God dispenses His will throughout different ages of the Bible. In this verse we see that Grace is a dispensation of God. Again at the Rapture of the Church this dispensation will be over. Paul says that Grace will last until the dispensation of the fulness of the gentiles come in.

Rom 11:25  For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, [until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in].

God’s Grace will:

Act 26:18  To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified [by faith that is in me].

Eph 2:7  That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
Eph 2:8  For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Paul’s words:

Col 1:25  Whereof I am made a minister, [according to the dispensation of God] which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God;
Col 1:26  Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:
Col 1:27  To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
Col 1:28  Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:
Col 1:29  Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily.

IV.) Paul shows the “rebuke” of them for the LACK OF SPIRITUAL GROWTH.

Eph 4:14  [That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine], by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;
Eph 4:15  [But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:]

We must get our “DOCTRINE” right!

Mat 7:28  And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, [the people were astonished at his doctrine]:

There is only one Doctrine we need to know. THE DOCTRINE OF CHRIST.

Read Titus Chapter 2

2Ti 3:16  All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
2Ti 3:17  That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

V.) Paul taught that it is REAL IMPORTANT TO LIVE A LIFE “LED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT”.

Eph 5:18  And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; [but be filled with the Spirit];
Eph 5:19  Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;
Eph 5:20  Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;
Eph 5:21  Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

God is making a comparison here. Even the quietist and most shy person under the influence of alcohol will have a loose tongue. GOD SAYS EVEN THE QUIETEST AND MOST SHY PERSON THAT IS FILLED WITH THE HOLY GHOST WILL OPEN HIS MOUTH AND WITNESS ABOUT JESUS.

God is not endorsing drinking in any way!

Look at what is missed in these same words.

IF WE DO NOT OR ARE NOT A WITNESS TO OTHERS, ARE WE TRULY FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT?

VI.) GOD TEACHES US THE IMPORTANCE OF FAMILY ORDER:

Eph 5:22  Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
Eph 5:23  For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
Eph 5:24  Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
Eph 5:25  Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
Eph 5:26  That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
Eph 5:27  That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
Eph 5:28  So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.
Eph 5:29  For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
Eph 5:30  For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
Eph 5:31  For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
Eph 5:32  This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
Eph 5:33  Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.
Eph 6:1  Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
Eph 6:2  Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)
Eph 6:3  That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
Eph 6:4  And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

GOD IS A GOD OF ORDER.

GOD EXPECTS ORDER IN HIS FAMILY!

GOD EXPECTS ORDER IN HIS CHURCH!

VII.) GOD TEACHES US THAT THE “CHRISTIAN” LIFE IS THE BEST LIFE (BUT) IT IS NOT ALWAYS THE EASIEST WAY TO LIVE.

Eph 6:10  Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
Eph 6:11  Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
Eph 6:12  For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Eph 6:13  Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Eph 6:14  Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
Eph 6:15  And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
Eph 6:16  Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
Eph 6:17  And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

GOD HAS TOLD US TO DRESS IN THIS MANNER EVERY DAY. IT IS EASY TO SEE THAT TO DRESS IN THIS MANNER WE ARE NOT GOING ON A PICNIC BUT TO “WAR”.

OUR WAR IS WITH SATAN AND HIS FOLLOWERS. NOT WITH OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS AND NOT WITH THE LOST OF THIS WORLD.

Amen

New Testament Survey (The Letters to Corinth)

“NEW TESTAMENT SURVEY” (The Corinth Letters)

TEXT:

1Co 14:6  Now, [brethren], if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine?
1Co 14:7  And even things without life giving sound, whether pipe or harp, except they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped?
1Co 14:8  For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?
1Co 14:9  So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air.

INTRO:

In every situation and in every Doctrine, WE NEED TO KNOW WHAT GOD SAYS, “NOT WHAT MAN SAYS”. Corinth was a wicked and an ungodly place. The Apostle Paul wrote letters back to this group of believers at Corinth because it was such a place of controversy. “It is only God who gives us the truth in HIS WORD”.

(vs 6) We see Paul was writing to the Brethren, the Saints of God, the Church, The Bride of Christ.

(vs7) This verse states that “even musical instruments must give a distinct sound to be understood.

(vs8) Says if a trumpet is the sound of battle then the battle sound should come out not some confusing sound.

(vs9) Says the WORDS OUT OF OUR MOUTHS should be easily understood.

I.) THE MEANING:

   A.) “GLOSSA”

G1100
γλῶσσα
glōssa
Total KJV Occurrences: 50

1) the tongue, a member of the body, an organ of speech
2) a tongue
a) the language or dialect used by a particular people distinct from that of other nations

glōssa
gloce’-sah
Of uncertain affinity; the tongue; by implication a language (specifically one naturally unacquired): – tongue.

33 TIMES IN THE KJB it is used as “Language”
17 TIMES IN THE KJB it is used as the tongue. (That thing in my mouth)

Proof verses:

THE MIRACLE OF GOD

Act 2:1  And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
Act 2:2  And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
Act 2:3  And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
Act 2:4  And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Act 2:5  And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
Act 2:6  Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.

The proof:

MEN FILLED WITH THE HOLY GHOST WITNESSING BY A MIRACLE OF GOD!

Act 2:7  And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?
Act 2:8  And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?
Act 2:9  Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,
Act 2:10  Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,
Act 2:11  Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues [the wonderful works of God].

People of another language of other Nations, got to hear the Wonderful Word of God.

B.) 1Co 14:19  Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.

It is said that the Apostle Paul spoke as many as seven different languages.

Notice Paul says that it is better to speak 5 WORDS CLEARLY than 10,000 words of an unknown language.

C.) TONGUE is interchangeable with LANGUAGE!

“GLOSSA”

D.) God did a miracle. Miracles are used in the Gospel by God TO REACH SINNERS! MIRACLES ARE USED FOR THE GLORY OF GOD, NOT FOR OUR OWN GLORY! GOD USES MIRACLES TO REACH A LOST AND DYING WORLD. “GOD IS THE GOD OF ALL NATIONS AND ALL TONGUES”!

II.) THE MOTIVE:

A.) Act 2:1  And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
Act 2:7  And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?
Act 2:8  And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?
Act 2:9  Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,
Act 2:10  Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,
Act 2:11  Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.

3000 PEOPLE SAVED:

Act 2:41  Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

*****Act 10:44  While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
Act 10:45  And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Act 10:46  For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
Act 10:47  Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
Act 10:48  And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

GENTILES ARE SAVED!

*****Act 19:6  And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

THEY PREACHED GOD’S WORD IN THEIR OWN LANGUAGE!

There was a language barrier. It was solved by a “miracle” of God.

B.) Luk 1:13  But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.
Luk 1:14  And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth.
Luk 1:15  For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother’s womb.
Luk 1:16  [And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God].

THE PURPOSE OF THE HOLY GHOST IS TO LEAD PEOPLE ,(THE LOST), TO THE LORD.

“The Holy Ghost is for our EMPLOYMENT not our ENJOYMENT!

The 1st goal of the Gospel is to lead people to Christ.
The 1st goal of the Church is to lead people to Christ.
The 1st goal of every ministry of the Church should be to lead the lost to Jesus Christ.
That’s our #1 JOB!

III.) THE METHOD:

   A.) THE FIVE GUIDELINES:

1Co 14:28  But if there be no interpreter, [let him keep silence in the church]; and let him speak to himself, and to God.

1.) NO LANGUAGE IS TO BE USED IF IT CANNOT BE UNDERSTOOD!

1Co 14:33  For [God is not the author of confusion], but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

2.) WE ARE NEVER TO CAUSE CONFUSION IN THE CHURCH.

1Co 14:34  [Let your women keep silence in the churches]: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.

3.) WOMEN ARE NOT TO PREACH IN THE CHURCH.

1Co 14:27  If any man speak in an unknown tongue, [let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course]; [and let one interpret].

4.) THE INTERPRETATION SHOULD NEVER BE THROUGH MORE THAN TWO OR THREE INTERPRETERS.

Mat 28:19  [Go ye therefore, and teach all nations], baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Mat 28:20  Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

5.) GOD WANTS EVERYONE ON THE PLANET TO HEAR HIS WORD.

IV.) THE MISUNDERSTANDINGS:

A.) Act 1:8  But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and [ye shall be witnesses] unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

I NEED The Power of the Holy Ghost to be an effective witness.

     1.) JESUS:

Luk 3:22  And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.

Jesus is God and knows all things but WE NEVER READ WHERE JESUS SPOKE IN ANOTHER LANGUAGE.

     2.) John the Baptist:

Luk 1:13  But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.
Luk 1:16  And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.

We “NEVER” hear where John the Baptist spoke in any other language.

Receiving the Holy Ghost has nothing to do with receiving any strange or unknown language.

THE HOLY GHOST IS GIVEN FOR A WITNESS OF THE GOSPEL TO GET PEOPLE SAVED!

   B.) GOD UNDERSTANDS EVERY LANGUAGE!

Jon 2:10  And [the LORD spake unto the fish], and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.

We can be sure that If God can speak to a fish HE CAN CERTAINLY SPEAK TO EVERYONE IN THEIR OWN LANGUAGE!

GOD SAID:

Mar 16:15  And he said unto them, [Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature].
Mar 16:16  He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Act 28:28  Be it known therefore unto you, [that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it].

1.) IT IS NOT A SPECIAL PRAYER LANGUAGE!

Gen 11:1  And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.

Gen 11:9  Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

LANGUAGES CAME ABOUT BECAUSE OF THE SIN AT THE TOWER OF BABEL.

Zep 3:7  I said, Surely thou wilt fear me, thou wilt receive instruction; so their dwelling should not be cut off, howsoever I punished them: but they rose early, and corrupted all their doings.
Zep 3:8  Therefore wait ye upon me, saith the LORD, until the day that I rise up to the prey: for my determination is to gather the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them mine indignation, even all my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy.
Zep 3:9  [For then will I turn to the people a pure language], that they may all call upon the name of the LORD, to serve him with one consent.

THERE WILL BE A RETURN TO A PURE LANGUAGE ONE DAY BUT THAT HAS NOT HAPPENED YET!

2.) TO SAY THAT GOD ONLY UNDERSTANDS ONE LANGUAGE “MAKES GOD VERY SHALLOW”.

C.) ONCE A CHURCH WAS TAUGHT THE GOSPEL OF GOD THEY WERE THEN EXPECTED TO GO OUT IN THEIR OWN LANGUAGE AND TEACH OTHERS. NOT SOME STRANGE LANGUAGE.

1Co 3:1  And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ.
1Co 3:2  I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.
1Co 3:3  For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men?
1Co 3:4  For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal?
1Co 3:5  Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man?
1Co 3:6  I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.
1Co 3:7  So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.
1Co 3:8  Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.
1Co 3:9  For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.
1Co 3:10  According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
1Co 3:11  For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

We can see that this church at Corinth was not very “SPIRITUAL”.

2.) DON’T GET CAUGHT UP IN ONLY WANTING ONE MIRACLE. PEOPLE LOSE SIGHT OF THE GOSPEL OF GOD, THAT IS TO SAVE THE LOST, AND SOMETIMES WANT TO SEE A GREAT MIRACLE. THE GREATEST MIRACLE OF GOD IS “SALVATION TO THE LOST”.

THE EVIDENCE OF THE HOLY GHOST IS BEING A SOUL WINNER!

THE EVIDENCE OF THE HOLY GHOST IS LEADING OTHER PEOPLE TO CHRIST!

Act 1:8  [But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me] both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

SPIRIT FILLED PEOPLE ARE THOSE THAT ARE GOOD WITNESSES OF JESUS CHRIST!

AND YE SHALL! SHALL! SHALL! BE WITNESSES.

ARE YOU A SOUL WINNER?

Amen

New Testament Survey (Book of Romans)

“NEW TESTAMENT SURVEY” (Book of Romans)

INTRO:

The Apostle Paul wanted to take the Gospel to Rome, [God has a way of doing things we may not understand]. God’s “will” will always be done. Caesar was the ruler of the World in the time of Paul. The Gospel of Jesus went all the way to the known ruler of the World, not Paul’s way but God’s way. This Epistle was written by the Apostle Paul and he wrote it probably while he was still in Corinth.

Rom 15:15  Nevertheless, brethren, [I have written] the more boldly unto you in some sort, as putting you in mind, because of the grace that is given to me of God,
Rom 15:16  That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost.

It was written to the Saints of God.

Rom 1:7  To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Rom 1:16  For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
Rom 1:17  For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

I.) THE MESSAGE OF THE BOOK OF ROMANS:

     1.) We “ALL” need God!

Rom 10:11  For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
Rom 10:12  For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
Rom 10:13  For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Rom 3:9  What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin;
Rom 3:10  As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
Rom 3:11  There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.

2.) “SALVATION” is the work of God!

Rom 11:6  And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

The ONLY WORK I did was provide God with a SINNER, (myself).

Rom 3:24  Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

Rom 10:13  For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

3.) You can live differently, IF YOU WANT TO!

Most people just don’t want too. NOT MY WAY BUT GOD’S WAY.

Rom 12:1  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Rom 12:2  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

4.) God has a Master Plan!

There are no surprises for God. God is always in control. God may not cause everything to happen in this World but he can stop it or allow it to happen. We will not know what God stopped until we get to heaven. We can only know what He has allowed.

Rom 8:28  And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

5.) All saints of God, ARE PART OF THE BODY OF CHRIST!

Rom 8:10  And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

Rom 7:4  Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

Rom 12:4  For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office:
Rom 12:5  So we, being many, are [one body in Christ], and every one members one of another.

II.) THE OUTLINE OF THE BOOK OF ROMANS:

1.) (Chapters 1-3): Teaches the “sinful nature” of Man.

Rom 1:19  Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
Rom 1:20  For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Rom 1:21  Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

Rom 2:1  Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things.

Rom 3:10  As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
Rom 3:11  There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.

Rom 3:23  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

2.) (Chapters 4,5): Teaches the importance of the “CROSS”.

Rom 4:24  But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;
Rom 4:25  Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

Rom 5:5  And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
Rom 5:6  For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

Rom 5:8  But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Rom 5:11  And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.

Rom 5:17  For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)

Rom 5:21  That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

3.) (Chapters 6-8): Teaches the New Life in Christ.

Rom 6:3  Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?
Rom 6:4  Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Rom 6:6  Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

Rom 6:10  For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.

Rom 6:17  But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.
Rom 6:18  Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

Rom 7:4  Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

Rom 7:9  For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.

Rom 7:24  O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
Rom 7:25  I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

Rom 8:1  There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
Rom 8:2  For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

Rom 8:38  For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Rom 8:39  Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

4.) (Chapters 9-11): Teaches that the Church is now God’s CHOSEN PEOPLE.

Rom 9:23  And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,
Rom 9:24  Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?
Rom 9:25  As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved.
Rom 9:26  And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God.

Rom 10:9  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Rom 10:10  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Rom 11:21  For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.

Rom 11:25  For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.

Rom 11:29  For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

5.) (Chapters 12-14): Teaches about our life in Christ.

Rom 12:18  If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

Rom 13:1  Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
Rom 13:2  Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.

Rom 14:1  Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations.

Rom 14:8  For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s.

Rom 14:12  So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

Rom 14:18  For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men.

Rom 14:22  Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth.

6.) (Chapter 15): Teaches “GOALS” for the “MINISTRY”.

Rom 15:4  For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

Rom 15:7  Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God.

Rom 15:11  And again, Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles; and laud him, all ye people.

Rom 15:30  Now I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus Christ’s sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me;

Rom 15:32  That I may come unto you with joy by the will of God, and may with you be refreshed.

7.) (Chapter 16): Teaches “LOVE FOR THE PEOPLE”.

Rom 16:1  I commend unto you Phebe our sister, which is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea:
Rom 16:2  That ye receive her in the Lord, as becometh saints, and that ye assist her in whatsoever business she hath need of you: for she hath been a succourer of many, and of myself also.
Rom 16:3  Greet Priscilla and Aquila my helpers in Christ Jesus:
Rom 16:4  Who have for my life laid down their own necks: unto whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles.
Rom 16:5  Likewise greet the church that is in their house. Salute my wellbeloved Epaenetus, who is the firstfruits of Achaia unto Christ.
Rom 16:6  Greet Mary, who bestowed much labour on us.
Rom 16:7  Salute Andronicus and Junia, my kinsmen, and my fellowprisoners, who are of note among the apostles, who also were in Christ before me.
Rom 16:8  Greet Amplias my beloved in the Lord.
Rom 16:9  Salute Urbane, our helper in Christ, and Stachys my beloved.
Rom 16:10  Salute Apelles approved in Christ. Salute them which are of Aristobulus’ household.
Rom 16:11  Salute Herodion my kinsman. Greet them that be of the household of Narcissus, which are in the Lord.
Rom 16:12  Salute Tryphena and Tryphosa, who labour in the Lord. Salute the beloved Persis, which laboured much in the Lord.
Rom 16:13  Salute Rufus chosen in the Lord, and his mother and mine.
Rom 16:14  Salute Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermas, Patrobas, Hermes, and the brethren which are with them.
Rom 16:15  Salute Philologus, and Julia, Nereus, and his sister, and Olympas, and all the saints which are with them.
Rom 16:16  Salute one another with an holy kiss. The churches of Christ salute you.

III.) THE MAIN THEMES OF ROMANS:

     1.) GRACE

Rom 5:21  That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

Grace is the UNDESERVIVED FAVOR OF GOD.

G God’s

R  Riches

A  At

C  Christ’s

E  Expense

     2.) FAITH

Rom 5:2  By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

Rom 3:22  Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:
Rom 3:23  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
Rom 3:24  Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

     3.) JUSTIFICATION

Rom 3:24  Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:

Rom 5:9  Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

Rom 8:1  There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

Justification=In theology, remission of sin and absolution from guilt and punishment; or an act of free grace by which God pardons the sinner and accepts him as righteous, on account of the atonement of Christ.

Justify= To prove or show to be just, or conformable to law.

Justify means to God: JUST AS IF I HAD NEVER SINNED!

     4.) UNITY

Unity= The state of being one; oneness. Agreement; uniformity; as unity of doctrine; unity of worship in a church. In Christian theology, oneness of sentiment, affection or behavior. Unity of faith, is an equal belief of the same truths of God, and possession of the grace of faith in like form and degree.

Unity of spirit, is the oneness which subsist between Christ and his saints, by which the same spirit dwells in both, and both have the same disposition and aims; and it is the oneness of Christians among themselves, united under the same head, having the same spirit dwelling in them, and possessing the same graces, faith, love, hope.

Rom 12:16  Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.

Rom 15:6  That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

     5.) GOD IS IN CONTROL

Rom 10:11  For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
Rom 10:12  For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: [for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him].
Rom 10:13  For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Rom 14:9  For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, [that he might be Lord both of the dead and living].

God prepared many things long ago that are not acknowledged.

Proof:

Isa 22:11  Ye made also a ditch between the two walls for the water of the old pool: [but ye have not looked unto the maker thereof, neither had respect unto him that fashioned it long ago].

He is God of the whole Earth.

Proof:

Isa 54:5  For thy Maker is thine husband; the LORD of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.

God made it all.

Jer 33:2  Thus saith the LORD the maker thereof, the LORD that formed it, to establish it; the LORD is his name;
Jer 33:3  Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

God has a new home for those that believe.

Heb 11:10  For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

The Apostle Paul knew all these things and it shows in his Epistles.

Rom 1:18  For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
Rom 1:19  Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
Rom 1:20  For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

Rom 12:1  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Rom 12:2  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

AMEN.

New Testament Survey (Book of Acts)

“NEW TESTAMENT SURVEY” (The Book of Acts)

INTRO:

This recording of the early Church was written by Luke. This same Luke wrote the Book of Luke. WE believe that the “Purpose” of this Book is to SHOW US WHAT A DIFFERENCE THE HOLY GHOST MAKES. There is no “Power” in the flesh. Without the Holy Ghost then the Church could not have become the Church nor could it last.

Luke is the ONLY Non-Jewish writer of the Books of the New Testament. Luke was a Gentile. The first twelve chapters are mainly about the Apostle Peter and the remaining chapters are mainly about the Apostle Paul.

Everyone usually has a “specific event” in their lives that either makes them or breaks them in their lives. In the book of Luke we can see these certain events of Peter and Paul. THEY CHOSE CHRIST AND THE EARLY CHURCH. THEY KNEW THAT THIS TIME IN THEIR LIVES WAS THE BEGINNING OF GOD’S CHURCH AND THEY HAD PEACE THROUGH ALL THE TURMOILS THEY FACED.

God is a God of the second chance. Paul got his on the road to Damascus. WHERE DID YOU GET YOUR SECOND CHANCE?

I,) THE APPLICATION OF THE BOOK OF ACTS:

The Church has three main functions:

Preaching God’s word.

2Ti 4:1  I charge thee therefore before God, and the Lord Jesus Christ, who shall judge the quick and the dead at his appearing and his kingdom;
2Ti 4:2  Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
2Ti 4:3  For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
2Ti 4:4  And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
2Ti 4:5  But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.

Fellowship:

When a lost person was in the world they ran with a certain crowd of others that are lost. The Church gives that one who is saved a place of common ground, of comradery. A place to be with others who were once out in the world.

Act 2:42  And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
Act 2:43  And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.

Worship:

Worship that is personal, one on one with the Almighty God. The Church is not just a place to “show up” and certainly not a place to “show out” but a place that no matter the size that you can relate to God, one on one.

Act 24:14  But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:
Act 24:15  And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.
Act 24:16  And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men.

1.) The Book of Acts TEACHES WHAT THE NEW TESTAMENT CHURCH SHOULD PROVIDE:

Act 5:42  And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

2.) The Book of Acts TEACHES HOW MISSION WORK IS TO BE DONE:

Act 13:2  As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, [the Holy Ghost said, Separate me] Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.
Act 13:3  And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.
Act 13:4  So they, being sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed unto Seleucia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus.

A missionary must be called and separated for the work by the Holy Ghost.

Rom 10:15  And how shall they preach, [except they be sent]? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

Act 9:15  But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: [for he is a chosen vessel unto me], to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel:

Heb 5:4  [And no man taketh this honour unto himself, but he that is called of God], as was Aaron.

3.) The Book of Acts TEACHES AND PROVES THAT “CHRISTIANS” ARE NOT PERFECT:

Act 12:25  And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled their ministry, [and took with them John, whose surname was Mark].

A young man wanting to be a missionary.

Act 13:5  And when they were at Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews: and [they had also John to their minister].

He was on the very first missionary trip.

Act 13:8  But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith.

He saw that this work was no picnic.(Missionary trips are not vacations)

Act 13:13  Now when Paul and his company loosed from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia: [and John departing from them returned to Jerusalem].

He quit the ministry.

Act 15:37  And Barnabas determined to take with [them John, whose surname was Mark].
Act 15:38  But [Paul thought not good to take him with them], who departed from them from Pamphylia, and [went not with them to the work].
Act 15:39  And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus;
Act 15:40  And Paul chose Silas, and departed, being recommended by the brethren unto the grace of God.

He later wanted to return to the field and did causing great conflict between Paul and Barnabas. Notice neither of these great men left the ministry but continued in the work of God. God always knows best.

Later we have these words of the Apostle Paul.

Col 4:10  Aristarchus my fellowprisoner saluteth you, and [Marcus, sister’s son to Barnabas, (touching whom ye received commandments: if he come unto you, receive him;)]

Phm 1:23  There salute thee Epaphras, my fellowprisoner in Christ Jesus;
Phm 1:24  [Marcus], Aristarchus, Demas, Lucas, my fellowlabourers.

2Ti 4:11  Only Luke is with me. [Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry].

We can see that Mark was now profitable to the ministry.

1Pe 5:13  The church that is at Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you; and so doth [Marcus my son].

We can see the Apostle Peter, who must have led Mark to the Lord, was very close to him.

NONE OF US ARE PERFECT AND WE WILL NOT BE UNTIL THIS DAY:

1Jn 3:1  Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
1Jn 3:2  Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: [but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is].
1Jn 3:3  And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

4.) The Book of Acts TEACHES US THE QUALIFICATIONS OF CHURCH LEADERS:

Act 1:8  But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Act 6:3  Wherefore, brethren, [look ye out among] you seven men of honest report, [full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom], whom we may appoint over this business.

We must be examples to this lost and dying world.

2Co 3:2  Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men:
2Co 3:3  Forasmuch as ye are manifestly declared to be the epistle of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in fleshy tables of the heart.
2Co 3:4  And such trust have we through Christ to God-ward:
2Co 3:5  Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God;
2Co 3:6  Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

Jesus is our example:

Joh 13:15  For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.

We should follow in His footsteps:

Act 11:23  Who, when he came, and had seen the grace of God, was glad, and exhorted them all, [that with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord].

Act 13:43  Now when the congregation was broken up, many of the Jews and religious proselytes followed Paul and Barnabas: who, speaking to them, [persuaded them to continue in the grace of God].

II.) THE OUTLINE OF THE BOOK OF ACTS:

1.) The Promise of the Holy Spirit:

Act 1:8  But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and [ye shall be witnesses unto me both in (Jerusalem), and in all (Judaea), and in (Samaria), and unto (the uttermost part of the earth]).

Home, Nation, the adjacent Nations and the entire World.

Act 2:2  And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
Act 2:3  And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
Act 2:4  And [they were all filled with the Holy Ghost], and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Act 4:31  And when [they had prayed], the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and [they were all filled with the Holy Ghost], and they spake the word of God with boldness.
Act 4:32  And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.
Act 4:33  And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.

“THE HOLY GHOST IS GIVEN TO US FOR OUR EMPLOYMENT AND NOT FOR OUR ENJOYMENT.”

   2.) A replacement for Judas:[Chapter 1:15-26]

Joh 6:70  Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?
Joh 6:71  He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve.

Joh 12:4  Then saith one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, which should betray him,

Joh 18:1  When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Cedron, where was a garden, into the which he entered, and his disciples.
Joh 18:2  And Judas also, which betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus ofttimes resorted thither with his disciples.
Joh 18:3  Judas then, having received a band of men and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns and torches and weapons.

Mat 27:3  Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
Mat 27:4  Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.
Mat 27:5  And [he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself].
Mat 27:6  And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood.
Mat 27:7  And they took counsel, and [bought with them the potter’s field, to bury strangers in].

Act 1:16  Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus.
Act 1:17  For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry.
Act 1:18  Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and [falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out].

Judas committed “Suicide”.

Act 1:25  That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, [that he might go to his own place].

Act 1:19  And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, [The field of blood].

TIME TO CHOOSE SOMEONE ELSE:

Act 1:20  For it is written in the book of Psalms, [Let his habitation be desolate], and let no man dwell therein: and [his bishoprick let another take].
Act 1:21  Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,
Act 1:22  Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.
Act 1:23  And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.
Act 1:24  And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen,
Act 1:25  That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.
Act 1:26  And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

3.) The Book of Acts tells us of the “Jerusalem Experiences”: [Chapters 2-6]

(Things that happened in Jerusalem)

God still works Miracles!
There will be “Opposition” from Satan’s crowd!
There will be MARTYRS!

4.) The Book of Acts tells us the “Samaritan Experiences”: [Chapter 8]

5.) The “CONVERSION” of SAUL: [Chapter 9]

Act 9:1  And Saul, yet [breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord], went unto the high priest,
Act 9:2  And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem.
Act 9:3  And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven:
Act 9:4  And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
Act 9:5  And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.
Act 9:6  And he trembling and astonished said, [Lord, what wilt thou have me to do]? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.

Act 9:15  But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for [he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel]:
Act 9:16  [For I will shew him how great things he must suffer for my name’s sake].

6.) The Book of Acts tells us of the Missionary Journey’s: [Chapters 13-28]

Act 2:2  And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
Act 2:3  And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
Act 2:4  And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
Act 2:5  And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
Act 2:6  Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, [because that every man heard them speak in his own language].

A.) (1st journey) They went to Cyprus, Perga, Lystra, and Derbe.

B.) (2nd journey) They went to Philippi, Thessalonica, Berea, Athens, Corinth and back to Antioch.

C.) (3rd Journey) They went to Ephesus and then to Jerusalem.

Mat 9:35  And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.

Mat 28:18  And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
Mat 28:19  Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Mat 28:20  Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

OUR JOB IS STILL TO GET THE GOSPEL OUT TO THE PEOPLE!

III.) WHAT IS THE MESSAGE OF THE BOOK OF ACTS?:

1.) We are nothing without the Holy Ghost.

Act 1:4  And, being assembled together with them, commanded them [that they should not depart] from Jerusalem, [but wait for the promise of the Father], which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
Act 1:5  For John truly baptized with water; but [ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence].

2.) The importance of Godly fellowship.

Act 2:46  And they, [continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart],
Act 2:47  Praising God, and having favour with all the people. [And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved].

Act 5:42  [And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ].

3.) There will be “triumphs” and “tragedies”.

a triumph:

Act 3:2  And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple;
Act 3:3  Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms.
Act 3:4  And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us.
Act 3:5  And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them.
Act 3:6  Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.
Act 3:7  And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.
Act 3:8  [And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God].

a tragedy:

Act 5:1  But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,
Act 5:2  And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.
Act 5:3  But Peter said, Ananias, [why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost], and to keep back part of the price of the land?
Act 5:4  Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.
Act 5:5  And [Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost]: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.
Act 5:6  And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him.
Act 5:7  And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.
Act 5:8  And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much.
Act 5:9  Then Peter said unto her, [How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord]? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.
Act 5:10  [Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost]: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.
Act 5:11  And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.

4.) You will be hated by the Lost World.

Joh 15:20  Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
Joh 15:21  But all these things will they do unto you for my name’s sake, because they know not him that sent me.
Joh 15:22  If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin.

Rom 12:14  Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.

5.) GOD CAN SAVE EVEN THE WORSE SINNER!

1Ti 1:12  And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry;
1Ti 1:13  Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.
1Ti 1:14  And the grace of our Lord was exceeding abundant with faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
1Ti 1:15  This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; [of whom I am chief].

IT’S NOT WHERE I HAVE BEEN THAT IS IMPORTANT, NO, IT IS ONLY IMPORTANT WHERE I AM GOING NOW, TO HEAVEN!

6.) THE BOOK OF ACTS “PROVES” THE POWER OF PRAYER!

Act 12:1  Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church.
Act 12:2  And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.
Act 12:3  And because he saw it pleased the Jews, [he proceeded further to take Peter also]. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.)
Act 12:4  And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.
Act 12:5  Peter therefore was kept in prison: [but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him].

(the Church was praying without ceasing)

Act 12:6  And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.

(notice the peace of mind Peter had, Locked up in prison to be executed but sound asleep)

Act 12:7  And, behold, [the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands].

(the angel of God had to wake Peter up and just look at the miracles, the chains fell)

Act 12:8  And the angel said unto him, [Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me].

(Put those clothes on we got to go)

Act 12:9  And he went out, and followed him; and [wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision].

(even Peter could not believe what was happening)

Act 12:10  When they were past the first and the second ward, [they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord]: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him.

( just like at the grocery store those doors swung open)

Act 12:11  [And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews].

(Peter had not yet fulfilled his purpose)

Act 12:12  And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; [where many were gathered together praying].

THE POWER OF PRAYER!

Act 12:13  And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda.
Act 12:14  And when she knew Peter’s voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood before the gate.
Act 12:15  And they said unto her, [Thou art mad]. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel.

EVEN THOSE PRAYING COULD NOT BELIEVE THE POWER OF PRAYER!

Act 12:16  But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished.

GOD ANSWERS PRAYER!

Act 12:17  But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go shew these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went into another place.
Act 12:18  Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers, what was become of Peter.

GOD’S POWER JUST CAUSES THE LOST TO BE CONFUSED!

Joh 14:13  And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
Joh 14:14  If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

Psa 2:2  The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,
Psa 2:3  Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
Psa 2:4  He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
Psa 2:5  Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.

Psa 59:8  But thou, O LORD, shalt laugh at them; thou shalt have all the heathen in derision.
Psa 59:9  Because of his strength will I wait upon thee: for God is my defence.

7.) JUST A FEW GENUINE BELIEVERS CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. THOSE FEW IN THE BOOK OF ACTS HAVE CHANGED THE “ENTIRE WORLD”.

New Testament Survey (Book of John)

“NEW TESTAMENT SURVEY”

Book of John

INTRO:

The Book of John is known as the Gospel that is different. The books of Matthew, Mark, Luke are known as the “Synoptic”(synonym) gospels. They give us somewhat the same picture but from different viewpoints.

The Book of John goes directly to Jesus in the flesh, straight to the “Diety of Christ”. JESUS IS GOD and John starts with “in the beginning” straight from the book of Genesis.

Joh 21:20 Then Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; [which also leaned on his breast at supper], and said, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee?

We would know this as a Bear Hug in our day, but these words say John was close enough to hear the HEARTBEAT OF GOD. The Book of John gives us Spiritual Values to carry us all the way home to Heaven.

I.) THE MAIN THEMES:

1.) JESUS is GOD’S “last” call to mankind!

Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

When we study the book of John we come away with the knowledge that there is absolutely no other way to Heaven than through the Jesus Christ and His BLOOD.

WE COME AWAY KNOWING THAT WITH JESUS WE HAVE A RELATIONSHIP NOT RELIGION.

Relationship: The state of being related by kindred.

Joh 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.

Gal 4:6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
Gal 4:7 Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.

2.) We MUST respond one way or another!

Joh 8:21 Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.
Joh 8:22 Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come.
Joh 8:23 And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.
Joh 8:24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.
Joh 8:25 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning.
Joh 8:26 I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him.
Joh 8:27 They understood not that he spake to them of the Father.

3.) ETERNAL LIFE begins HERE AND NOW. THE VERY MOMENT YOU GET SAVED!

Joh 6:47 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.
Joh 6:48 I am that bread of life.
John 6:49 Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead.
Joh 6:50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.
Joh 6:51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
Joh 6:52 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat?
Joh 6:53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
Joh 6:54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
Joh 6:55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
Joh 6:56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
Joh 6:57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.
Joh 6:58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.

4.) I(you) AM(are) REQUIRED TO SHARE MY(your) FAITH.

Joh 15:27 And ye also [shall] bear witness, because ye have been with me from the beginning.

II.) THE OUTLINE OF THE BOOK OF JOHN:

1.) The Introduction: (Chapter 1)

Joh 1:1(In the beginning) was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Compare:

Gen 1:1 (In the beginning) God created the heaven and the earth.

John tells us immediately that Jesus Christ is from the beginning of Creation. Not a created being but part of the Holy Trinity.

Gen 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the [Spirit of God] moved upon the face of the waters.
Gen 1:26 And God said, [Let us] make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping
thing that creepeth upon the earth.

Eph 3:9 And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, [which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ]:

2.) HIS POWER (Chapters 2-4)

His miracles:

Joh 2:6 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.
Joh 2:7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.
Joh 2:8 And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it.
Joh 2:9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,
Joh 2:10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.

His salvation:

Joh 3:1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:
Joh 3:2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.
Joh 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, [Except a man be born again], he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Joh 3:4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?
Joh 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
Joh 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Joh 3:7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
Joh 3:8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
Joh 3:9 Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?

You know Nicodemus may have come to Jesus by night because he was under Holy Ghost “CONVICTION” and could not wait until morning.

3.) Jesus is a “healing” God (Chapter 5)

Joh 5:5 And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.
Joh 5:6 When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?
Joh 5:7 The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.
Joh 5:8 Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.
Joh 5:9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.

This man left carrying the thing that was used to carry him.

4.) Jesus is a feeding God (Chapter 6).

Joh 6:9 There is a lad here, which hath five barley loaves, and two small fishes: but what are they among so many?
Joh 6:10 And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.
Joh 6:11 And Jesus took the loaves; and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to them that were set down; and likewise of the fishes as much as they would.
Joh 6:12 When they were filled, he said unto his disciples, Gather up the fragments that remain, that nothing be lost.
Joh 6:13 Therefore they gathered them together, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above unto them that had eaten.
Joh 6:14 Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world.

5.) The Feast of the Tabernacles (Chapters 7-9).

The third of the great annual festivals of the Jews (Lev_23:33-43). It is also called the “feast of ingathering” (Exo_23:16; Deu_16:13). It was celebrated immediately after the harvest, in the month Tishri, and the celebration
lasted for eight days (Lev_23:33-43). During that period the people left their homes and lived in booths formed of the branches of trees.

In Jerusalem the booths were built on the roofs, in house courts, in the temple court, and in the street of the water gate and of the Ephraim gate. They were made of boughs of olive, palm, pine, myrtle, and of her trees of thick
foliage. From the first day of the feast to the seventh the Israelites carried in their hands “the fruit (margin) of goodly trees, branches of palm, thick trees, and willows”. In one hand each carried a bundle of branches (called
luwlab or “palm” in rabbiical Hebrew) and in the other a citron (hadar, “goodly trees”.)

One of the priests fetched some water in a golden ewer from the pool of Siloam, which he brought into the court through the water-gate.
As he entered, the trumpets sounded, and he ascended the slope of the altar. At the top of this were fixed two silver basins with small openings at the bottom. Grape juice was poured into that on the eastern side, and the water
into that on the western side, whence, it was conducted by pipes into the Cedron. In the evening, both men and women assembled in the court of the women, expressly to hold a rejoicing for the drawing of the water of Siloam.
At the same time, there were set up in the court two lofty stands, each supporting four great lamps. These were lighted on each night of the festival.

It appears to be generally admitted that the words of our Saviour, Joh 7:37-38 — In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, “If a man thirst, let him come unto me drink. He that believeth on me
as the Scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water,”

6.) The Good Shepherd (Chapter 10)

Joh 10:9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

7.) Jesus is the “Restoring” God (Chapter 11)

Joh 11:43 And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.

On the day of the Rapture, Jesus will just say come forth my children.

1Th 4:14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
1Th 4:15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
1Th 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

8.) The Last Passover (Chapter 12)

Joh 12:2 There they made him a supper; and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that sat at the table with him.

Joh 12:9 Much people of the Jews therefore knew that he was there: and they came not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.
Joh 12:10 But the chief priests consulted that they might put Lazarus also to death;
Joh 12:11 Because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.

Joh 12:47 And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.

9.) The Upper Room experience (Chapter 13)

Joh 13:3 Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God;
Joh 13:4 He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself.
Joh 13:5 After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.

Joh 13:9 Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.

Joh 13:38 Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.

10.) SPIRITUAL VALUES (Chapters 14-16).

Joh 14:1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Joh 14:18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.

Joh 15:1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
Joh 15:2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
Joh 15:3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
Joh 15:4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
Joh 16:6 But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.
Joh 16:7  Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come
unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

Joh 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

11.) The TRUE Lord’s Prayer (Chapter 17)

Joh 17:1 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:

Joh 17:8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.
Joh 17:9 I pray for them: [I pray not for the world], but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.

Joh 17:20 Neither pray I for these alone, [but for them also which shall believe on me through their word];
Joh 17:21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

12.) The Arrest and the Trial (Chapter 18)

Joh 18:13 And led him away to Annas first; for he was father in law to Caiaphas, which was the high priest that same year.

Joh 18:24 Now Annas had sent him bound unto Caiaphas the high priest.

Joh 18:28 Then led they Jesus from Caiaphas unto the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover.
Joh 18:29 Pilate then went out unto them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man?

Joh 18:36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.

Joh 18:38 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all.

13.) The ASSINATION OF THE KING (Chapter 19).

Joh 19:10 Then saith Pilate unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee?
Joh 19:11 Jesus answered, Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above: therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.

Joh 19:16 Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away.
Joh 19:17 And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:
Joh 19:18 Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst.
Joh 19:19 And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.

14.) The RESURRECTION of Jesus (Chapters 20-21)

Joh 20:1 The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.

Joh 20:7 And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.

Joh 20:24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.
Joh 20:25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into
his side, I will not believe.
Joh 20:26 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you.
Joh 20:27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
Joh 20:28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
Joh 20:29  Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

Just because He loved me:

Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Joh 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

III.) THE MESSAGE:

1.) The Evidence:

a.) The Evidence of John the Baptist

Joh 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

b.) The Evidence of over 500 eye witnesses.

1Co 15:6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep.

Not at several different times, but together and at one instant.

c.) The Evidence of the disciples:

Not one of the eleven remaining disciples nor the Apostle Paul ever denied Jesus Christ to save their own lives. If Jesus was not God these men would never have died for Him.

2Ti 2:10 Therefore I endure all things for the elect’s sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
2Ti 2:11 It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:
2Ti 2:12  If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:

2Ti 2:13 If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.

BUT THE FALSE WORSHIPPER:

Tit 1:16 They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.

A HYPOCRIT

2.) THE VERDICT:

a.) Those that accept Him go to Heaven.

Joh 6:51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

b.) Those that reject Him will go to HELL.

Joh 5:28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,
Joh 5:29 And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and [they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation].

Luk 16:26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.

There is no getting out of Hell once you go there.

c.) If we are FOR REAL, WE WILL BE A WITNESS FOR JESUS CHRIST

Isa 66:19 And I will set a sign among them, and I will send those that escape of them unto the nations, to Tarshish, Pul, and Lud, that draw the bow, to Tubal, and Javan, to the isles afar off, that have not heard my fame, neither
have seen my glory; and they shall declare my glory among the Gentiles.

Mat 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Isa 52:10 The LORD hath made bare his holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.

Act 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Act 28:28 Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.

Rom 10:18 But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.

Rom 10:20 But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me.

Col 1:23 If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; whereof I Paul am made a minister;

Are you a witness for Jesus? Amen

New Testament Survey (Mark and Luke)

“NEW TESTAMENT SURVEY” [Mark and Luke]

THE BOOK OF MARK

INTRO:

The Book of Mark is one of the three “synoptic” Gospels. The other two being Matthew and Luke. A synoptic Gospel offers us a general view of the life of Jesus and His ministry.

If you were on the scene of an accident along with two other eye witnesses and some one asked you what you saw, you would of course give your view of how the accident happened. The other two witnesses would offer their view of the
same accident. In most all, if not all, cases the reporting officer would have three slightly different reports of the same accident.

When we read Matthew, Mark and Luke then we get three slightly different views of the same time in the life off Jesus Christ. By the way Christ is not the last name of Jesus but is used in place of the word “Messiah”. Jesus Christ
was and is the Jewish Messiah. “The ANNOINTED ONE”. His coming was told from the very beginning of the Bible. We should study and read all the Bible.

2Ti 3:16 [All] scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
2Ti 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

Messiah = MESSI’AH,

a. [Heb. anointed.] Christ, the ; the Savior of the world.

Joh 4:25 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.

This man Mark was a cousin to Barnabas. The same Barnabas that helped the Apostle Paul.

Col 4:10 Aristarchus my fellowprisoner saluteth you, and [Marcus, sister’s son to Barnabas], (touching whom ye received commandments: if he come unto you, receive him;)

This is the same Mark that had parents that allowed a Church to begin in their home.

Act 12:12 And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying.
Act 12:13 And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda.
Act 12:14 And when she knew Peter’s voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood before the gate.

This also the same Mark that was part of the dispute between Paul and Barnabas. Did we notice that even in dispute “neither Paul Nor Barnabas quit their ministry”.

Act 15:37 And Barnabas determined to take with them John, whose surname was Mark.
Act 15:38 But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work.
Act 15:39 And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus;
Act 15:40 And Paul chose Silas, and departed, being recommended by the brethren unto the grace of God.

We can see that Paul later thought very highly of Mark:

2Ti 4:11 Only Luke is with me. [Take Mark, and bring him with thee: for he is profitable to me for the ministry].

And we can see that Mark was probably led to the Lord by the Apostle Peter

1Pe 5:13 The church that is at Babylon, elected together with you, saluteth you; and so doth [Marcus my son].

The Book of Mark is thought to have been written in 65ad. Before the Temple was destroyed.

I.) THE MESSAGE:

1.) The Book of Mark stresses the importance of the right “DOCTRINE”.

Mar 4:2 And he taught them many things by parables, and said unto them in his doctrine,

Mar 4:34 But without a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples.

Mar 3:23 And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan?

Mar 12:38 And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces,

We can learn from The Book of Mark the Why, the What, the When and the Where of how we believe like we believe.

Most people of our time choose the Cafeteria style of Doctrine. They pick and choose: (a little this, a little that and no, no, None of that). WE EITHER ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST AS LORD OR WE HAVE NOT ACCEPTED HIM AT ALL.

2.) The Book of Mark shows us that “MIRACLES” are “natural” with God.

Mar 2:10 But that ye may know that [the Son of man hath power on earth] to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,)

Mar 6:41 And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, [he looked up to heaven], and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all.

Mar 7:34 And [looking up to heaven], he sighed, and saith unto him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened.

3.) The Book of Mark tells us(me) there WILL BE OPPOSITION IF I LIVE FOR GOD.

Mar 3:6 And the Pharisees went forth, and straightway took counsel with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him.

Mar 8:15 And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.

Mar 12:13 And they send unto him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, to catch him in his words.

4.) The Book of Mark “HIGHLIGHTS” THE AUTHORITY OF JESUS.

Mar 7:7 Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
Mar 7:8 For laying aside the commandment of God, ye hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots and cups: and many other such like things ye do.
Mar 7:9 And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.

II.) THE BOOK:

1.) The Introduction:

Chapter 1:1-13 Tied to the Old Testament Prophets:

Mar 1:1 [The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God];
Mar 1:2 [As it is written in the prophets], Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.

Jesus is “Mightier” than those prophets and John the Baptist:

Mar 1:7 And preached, saying, [There cometh one mightier than I after me], the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose.

Proper Baptism:

Mar 1:8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.

The Holy Trinity:

Mar 1:9 And it came to pass in those days, that [Jesus] came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan.
Mar 1:10 And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and [the Spirit like a dove descending upon him]:
Mar 1:11 And there came [a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased].

Temptation:

Mar 1:12 And immediately the Spirit driveth him into the wilderness.
Mar 1:13 And he was there in the wilderness forty days, [tempted of Satan]; and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered unto him.

2.) His work at Galilee (The land area near and around the Sea of Galilee).

Chapters 2-7

It was the scene of some of the most memorable events of Jewish history. Galilee also was the home of our Lord during at least thirty years of his life. The first three Gospels are chiefly taken up with our Lord’s public ministry
in this province. “The entire province is encircled with a halo of holy associations connected with the life, works, and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth.” “It is noteworthy that of his thirty-two beautiful parables, no less than
nineteen were spoken in Galilee. And it is no less remarkable that of his entire thirty-three great miracles, twenty-five were wrought in this province. His first miracle was wrought at the wedding in Cana of Galilee, and his last
, after his resurrection, on the shore of Galilee’s sea. In Galilee our Lord delivered the Sermon on The Mount, and the discourses on ‘The Bread of Life,’ on ‘Purity,’ on ‘Forgiveness,’ and on ‘Humility.’ In Galilee he called his
first disciples; and there occurred the sublime scene of the Transfiguration”.

The Galilean accent differed from that of Jerusalem in being broader and more guttural.

Mar 14:70 And he denied it again. And a little after, they that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them: for thou art a Galilaean, and [thy speech agreeth thereto].

5.) The Focus: (important meat of the message)

Chapters 14-16

Focus on Christ

Mar 14:6 And Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? she hath wrought a good work on me.
Mar 14:7 For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever ye will ye may do them good: [but me ye have not always.]

It is better to not have ever lived than to deny Jesus Christ!

Mar 14:21 The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never been born.

The false counsel:

Mar 15:1 And straightway in the morning the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate.

6.) THE CONCLUSION:

Chapter 16:9-20

Go tell them but especially tell Peter

Mar 16:2 And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.
Mar 16:3 And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre?
Mar 16:4 And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great.
Mar 16:5 And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted.
Mar 16:6 And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him.
Mar 16:7 But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you.

The Commission, Be a witness:

Mar 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

THE BOOK OF LUKE

INTRO:

We know that men are saved from all walks of life. Luke was a physician. We know how doctors keep accurate records and go into a lot of detail. Well we can see that Luke goes a little further into detail on many things in
The Gospel according to Luke.

Paul wrote:

Col 4:14 Luke, the beloved physician, and Demas, greet you.

Luke wrote like a doctor.

I.) THE MAIN THEMES

1.) Luke talks about "JOY" and "PRAISE" over and over again. Luke was an educated man. It seems that most highly educated men have a liking of joy.

Luk 2:10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
Luk 2:11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

2.) Luke talks a lot about the "Holy Spirit".

The Holy Spirit is the oil the makes the machinery of God run smoothly and keeps it running.

Luk 3:22 And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son; in thee I am well pleased.

3.) Luke talks a lot about "Forgiveness".

Luk 6:37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: ([forgive], and ye shall be forgiven):

The forgiveness we get from God must be passed on in forgiveness of "ALL" others.

4.) Luke talks a lot about "Prayer".

Luk 6:12 And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.

5.) Luke talks a lot about "MONEY".

Luk 11:41 But rather [give alms of such things as ye have]; and, behold, all things are clean unto you.
Luk 11:42 But woe unto you, Pharisees! for ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over judgment and the love of God: these ought ye to have done, and [not to leave the other undone].

6.) Luke talks a lot about women and children.

Luk 24:10 It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and [other women that were with them], which told these things unto the apostles.

Luk 18:16 But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.

(Chapter 8:40-56 Chapter 9: 37-43)

II.) THE BOOK:

1.) The Early Days. Chapters 1-4

Luke captures more of the Early life of Jesus.

The Birth, The Baptism, The Childhood, The Carpenter, The Saviour:

Luk 2:25 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.
Luk 2:26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ.
Luk 2:27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,
Luk 2:28 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,
Luk 2:29 Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:
Luk 2:30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
Luk 2:31  Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;

Luk 2:32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.

2.) The beginning of the Ministry of Jesus.

Chapters 4-9

Luk 4:14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.

He allows us to see our faults.

Luk 5:8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, Depart from me; [for I am a sinful man], O Lord.

He points to the truth.

Luk 6:5 And he said unto them, That the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath.

He honors faith.

Luk 7:9 When Jesus heard these things, he marvelled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed him, I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.

The seed.

Luk 8:11 Now the parable is this: [The seed is the word of God].

Our AWESOME GOD.

Luk 9:43 [And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God]. But while they wondered every one at all things which Jesus did, he said unto his disciples,

3.) The WORK in Jerusalem.

Chapters 9-19

Is Jesus in the (your) House.

Luk 10:6 And if [the son of peace] be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again.

Teach me to pray.

Luk 11:1 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, [teach us to pray], as John also taught his disciples.

Fear the Lord God.

Luk 12:5 But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.

Who binds us in sickness.

Luk 13:16 And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, [whom Satan hath bound], lo, these eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the sabbath day?

I must bear my own cross.

Luk 14:27 And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.

Heaven rejoices with every salvation.

Luk 15:7 I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance.

The law of Grace.

Luk 16:16 The law and the prophets were until John: [since that time the kingdom of God is preached], and every man presseth into it.

Don’t mess with God’s Children.

Luk 17:2 It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.

Will there be anyone left who believes when He comes.

Luk 18:8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

Zacchaeus, get down out of that tree.

Luk 19:4 And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycomore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way.
Luk 19:5 And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.

4.) Jesus proves He is the Messiah.

Chapters 19-24

I was a wild colt one day.

Luk 19:33 And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt?
Luk 19:34 And they said, The Lord hath need of him.

He teaches the truth.

Luk 20:21 And they asked him, saying, Master, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, neither acceptest thou the person of any, but teachest the way of God truly:

Tithing is giving part of what you need.

Luk 21:2 And he saw also a certain poor widow casting in thither two mites.

Jesus Proves He is the Messiah.

Luk 22:34 And he said, [I tell thee], Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.

Jesus prophesied the future.

{The Rooster that preached to Peter and brought him under conviction}.

Luk 22:60 And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew.

[Did God pinch that Chicken]

The future was just as Jesus said.

Peter remembered.

Luk 22:61 And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. <
Luk 22:62 And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.

A true Christian cannot sin without and it not bother him. Conviction will eat you up.

The hypocrites true side shows.

Luk 23:5 And they were the more fierce, saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Jewry, beginning from Galilee to this place.

Luk 23:10 And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused him.

The Day of the Lord(Sunday)

Luk 24:1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.
Luk 24:2 And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.
Luk 24:3  And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.

5.) TO THE LOST:

THE BOOK OF LUKE PROVES I NEED A SAVIOUR.

6.) TO THE SAVED:

THE BOOK OF LUKE TELLS ME ” I NEED TO BE INVOLVED IN GOD’S WORK”.

Luk 24:32 And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, [while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures]?

Luk 24:36 And as they thus spake, [Jesus himself stood in the midst of them], (and saith unto them, Peace be unto you).

Are you involved?

Amen

New Testament Survey (Book of Matthew)

“NEW TESTAMENT SURVEY (Matthew)”

INTRO:

Just like we need “keys” to unlock the doors to our house, or to our cars, or to any locked thing. We also need some “keys” to understanding God’s Word. Not only is God’s Word best for us in our every day life,

THE BIBLE IS A LOVE LETTER FROM GOD!

The Bible shows the “GRACE” of God, the New Covenant given to “WHOSOEVER WILL”

Rev 22:17  And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

FOR “GRACE” IS “THE UNDESERVED FAVOR OF GOD”!

There were 600 years of SILENCE from Heaven between the Two Covenants(Testaments) of God. God did not speak through the Holy Ghost to any writer. God chose to fulfill Old Testament prophesy and come in the flesh to this His “Created” World.

Joh 1:14 SAYS  And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

THE BIBLE SAYS:

Php 2:5  Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
Php 2:6  Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
Php 2:7  But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
Php 2:8  And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Php 2:9  Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
Php 2:10  That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
Php 2:11  And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

When God came to pay our sin debt and provide the means of salvation, men were inspired to write things down so that we can know the truth:

1Jn 5:13  These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; [that ye may know that ye have eternal life], and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

There are three Books called the Synoptic Gospels. Matthew, Mark and Luke. Today we will look at the very first book of the New Covenant(Testament), MATTHEW.

” MATTHEW ”

I.) THE “KEY” TO THINGS IN MATTHEW:

1.) Matthew shows us that GOD IS OUR FATHER!:

The Bible tells us in the Book of Hosea [Asshur=(success) will not save us], nor any good work of our “own  hands”. Hosea says that we have made these things our “gODS”. The only things these have caused is a “fatherless society”. We need only but look around and see a divorce rate of over 60%, we see people living together rather than marry because of non-commitment. We see the Gay and Lesbian life style come out from darkness to openly demand their life style to be approved of by all others. THE BIBLE SAYS “NO” TO ALL THESE THINGS, but the results of these sinful acts have been a “Fatherless” society. The Book of Matthew teaches us we have a TRUE FATHER AND WE ARE NOT FATHERLESS!

Psa 68:4  Sing unto God, sing praises to his name: extol him that rideth upon the heavens by his name JAH, and rejoice before him.
Psa 68:5  [A father of the fatherless], and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation.

The word “father” is used 63 times in the Book of Matthew.

2.) MATTHEW TEACHES US SOME DIFFERENT DESCRIPTIONS OF CHRIST JESUS:

Terms such as: Son of David(Messiah), King of the Jews(Lion of the tribe of Judah), Jesus of Nazareth(vow of the Nazarene). The word “Jew” is short for the word “Judah”.

The meaning of Judah is “Praise”. We also need to PRAISE our Lord Jesus Christ.

CHRIST THE “SAVIOUR” IS TAUGHT IN MATTHEW.

Mat 1:22  Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
Mat 1:23  Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.

FULFILLMENT OF THE OLD TESTAMENT:

Isa 7:14  Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

3.) Matthew ties the New Testament to the Old Testament:

Matthew quotes the Old Testament SIXTY FIVE TIMES in his New Testament Book. This shows us the God expects us to know all the Bible. It is a New Testament Church but it all began back in Genesis.

2Ti 3:16  [All] scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
2Ti 3:17  That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

4.) The Book of Matthew “BEGINS” The “TEACHINGS” of Jesus Christ:

Mat 5:18  For verily [I say] unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

The Term [I SAY] is used 58 (fifty eight) times in the Gospel according to Matthew.

Mat 23:8  But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.

Master, Rabbi used another 18 times. Add teach and preach for another 8 times.

5.) In the Book of Matthew we first find the “PARABLE” teaching of Jesus.

A “PARABLE” is a story that uses a “living illustration” of something in real life or in nature for “instruction”. (Such as a sower went forth to sow).

Mat 13:18 says  Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower.

Jesus always said when He was speaking in “Parables”. Jesus never used real names in any of His “Parables”.

6.) We get our first look in the Book of Matthew of the MIRACLES OF GOD:

Matthew told us about 20(twenty) miracles of God.

Another fulfillment of prophesy:

Isa 35:4  Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you.
Isa 35:5  Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.
Isa 35:6  Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert.

Matthew wrote:

Mat 11:4  Jesus answered and said unto them, [Go and shew John again] those things which ye do hear and see:
Mat 11:5  The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

Mat 15:29  And Jesus departed from thence, and came nigh unto the sea of Galilee; and went up into a mountain, and sat down there.
Mat 15:30  And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus’ feet; and he healed them:
Mat 15:31  Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.

Add:

The casting out of Demons:

Mat 8:16  When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick:
Mat 8:17  That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.

Fulfillment of the Prophets:

Isa 53:4  Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.

Add:

Command of the elements:

Mat 8:23  And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him.
Mat 8:24  And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep.
Mat 8:25  And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish.
Mat 8:26  And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.
Mat 8:27  But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!

Command of food:

Mat 15:32  Then Jesus called his disciples unto him, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.
Mat 15:33  And his disciples say unto him, Whence should we have so much bread in the wilderness, as to fill so great a multitude?
Mat 15:34  And Jesus saith unto them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven, and a few little fishes.
Mat 15:35  And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground.
Mat 15:36  And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and brake them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.
Mat 15:37  And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets full.
Mat 15:38  And they that did eat were four thousand men, beside women and children.

How about WALK ON THE WATER:

Mat 14:25  And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.

Our Proof of God THE RESURRECTION:

Mat 28:5  And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.
Mat 28:6  He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.

7.) MATTHEW SHOWS THE TEACHING OF THE “KINGDOM OF HEAVEN”:

*****Dan 2:44 says  And in the days of these kings shall the [God of heaven set up a kingdom], which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.

The Coming Millennial Kingdom:

Mat 3:1  In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,
Mat 3:2  And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Mat 3:3  For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

Rev 20:1  And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.
Rev 20:2  And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,
Rev 20:3  And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.

*****Dan 4:26 says And whereas they commanded to leave the stump of the tree roots; thy kingdom shall be sure unto thee, after that thou shalt have known that the heavens do rule.

Dan 7:13  I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.
Dan 7:14  And there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed.

Mat 26:64  Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

*****Dan 7:27  And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him.

Mat 13:41  The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;
Mat 13:42  And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Mat 13:43  Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Mat 10:22  And ye shall be hated of all men for my name’s sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.

Mat 11:27  All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.
Mat 11:28  Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Mat 24:13  But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

Mat 28:18  And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
Mat 28:19  Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

II.) THE OUTLINE OF THE BOOK OF MATTHEW:

Mic 5:2  But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

**********THE LIFE OF JESUS WAS FAIRLY QUITE UNTIL HE WAS THIRTY YEARS OLD:

Num 4:3  From thirty years old and upward even until fifty years old, all that enter into the host, to do the work in the tabernacle of the congregation.

Gen 41:46  And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.

2.) THE SERMON ON THE MOUNT:

Chapters 5-7

The Beatitudes

Mat 5:13  [Ye are the salt of the earth]: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
Mat 5:14  [Ye are the light of the world]. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

3.) THE KINGDOM PREACHING:

Mat 8:11  And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.

5.) THE RESPONSE OF THE PEOPLE:

Chapters 11-12

Mat 11:16  But whereunto shall I liken this generation? It is like unto children sitting in the markets, and calling unto their fellows,
Mat 11:17  And saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned unto you, and ye have not lamented.
Mat 11:18  For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, He hath a devil.
Mat 11:19  The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.

6.) THE PARABLES:

Chapter 13

10.) THE PROVING OF THE MESSIAH:

Chapters 21-23

Mat 23:37  O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

11.) THE FUTURE:

Chapters 24-25

Mat 24:3  And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

Mat 24:5  For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.

12.) MISSION COMPLETED:

Chapters 26-28

Mat 27:46  And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

III.) HOW DOES THE BOOK OF MATTHEW APPLY TO US(Me):

1.) To the “unbeliever”.

a.) To the Jew, He is the [promised] Messiah!

Mat 2:1  Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
Mat 2:2  Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
Mat 2:3  When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
Mat 2:4  And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.
Mat 2:5  And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,
Mat 2:6  And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.

b.) To the Gentile, He is the ONLY SAVIOUR!

Mat 11:29  Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
Mat 11:30  For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

c.) HELL IS REAL!

Mat 23:29  Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,
Mat 23:30  And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.
Mat 23:31  Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.
Mat 23:32  Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.
Mat 23:33  Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

d.) GOD LOVES YOU IN SPITE OF WHAT YOU HAVE DONE!

Mat 9:12  But when Jesus heard that, he said unto them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.
Mat 9:13  But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Mat 18:11  For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.

2.) TO CHRISTIANS(The Church):

a.) To value the Old Testament:

Mat 4:4  But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

b.) To be involved in the WORK OF THE LORD.

Amen.

c.) To show us the GREATER LAW!

Mat 22:36  Master, which is the great commandment in the law?
Mat 22:37  Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
Mat 22:38  This is the first and great commandment.

d.) TO TEACH US TO LOOK FOR THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST OUR LORD!

Mat 16:26  For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
Mat 16:27  For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.
Mat 16:28  Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.

Mat 24:29  Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
Mat 24:30  And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
Mat 24:31  And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
Mat 24:32  Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:
Mat 24:33  So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.
Mat 24:34  Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

Mat 25:31  When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
Mat 25:32  And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:
Mat 25:33  And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
Mat 25:34  Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:

Mat 26:64  Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

Are you looking?

AMEN.
