“WHAT IS HERMENEUTICS” (part eight)

Mat 13:10 And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?
Mat 13:11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.
Mat 13:12 For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.
Mat 13:13 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.
Mat 13:14 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:
Mat 13:15 For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
Mat 13:16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.
Mat 13:17 For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.
INTRO:
Hermeneutics is the “Science” of Biblical interpretation. Many cults, false teachers, and false religions have begun by just not taking time to study God’s word. We have studied many principles of interpretation. Among them are the Contextual Principle, The Ethnic Principle, The Dispensations, The Covenants, The Interpretive Principle, The Evidential Principle, The Divisional Principle and now Parabolic Theology.
Jesus Christ was the “Master” at teaching and preaching. Salvation and the Church are not complicated but Jesus could take serious doctrinal messages and relate them to people in true life instances.
A PARABLE is a “Living Illustration” of “Divine Truth”.
The THEME of the Book of Matthew is Jesus as “King”. We can see that this King truly knows His Kingdom.
**I.) The Parable of the “Sower”: (THE WITNESS)
We must first see that when Jesus taught in “parables” he said so. Verse 15 had told us that the heart of these people was “waxed gross”. If we are to come to Jesus it must begin in the heart.
The Parable of the sower:
Mat 13:18 Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower.
Mat 13:19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.
Mat 13:20 But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it;
Mat 13:21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.
Mat 13:22 He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.
Mat 13:23 But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.
***a.) The “SEED” represents the WORD OF GOD.
Luk 8:11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.
The “target” of the “seed” is the heart of man. The soil represents the heart.
Jer 4:3 For thus saith the LORD to the men of Judah and Jerusalem, [Break up your fallow ground], and [sow not among thorns].
Jer 4:4 Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and [take away the foreskins of your heart], ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my fury come forth like fire, and burn that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.
Hos 10:12 says Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.
We can see that the Bible uses farming principles throughout. In this era people raised their own food they could understand Jesus when He spoke in this manner.
The Bible tells ME to be like a tree planted by the water:
Psa 1:1 Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
Psa 1:2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
Psa 1:3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
***b.) The “sower” represents the souls winner.
We must be good witnesses for the Lord. Remember we are but messengers. It is God that gives the increase.
1Co 3:7 says So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.
1Co 3:8 Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.
1Co 3:9 For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.
We can also see that while the hearing is going on, that’s when Satan comes. He does not wait. He also comes back again but he comes just as soon as someone is hearing the word of God. Satan tries to stop God’s word from reaching the heart.
Luk 8:12 says Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved.
Heb 6:7 Says For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:
***c.) The “Devil” wants to steal away the seed.
A bird will not wait till the sower leaves, they will come while the sower is casting the seed. Satan, the Devil comes while the seed is being sown.
Jesus tells us this so we will know. We cannot stop being witnesses for God. That is why He saved us.
Hag 2:19 says [Is the seed yet in the barn]? yea, as yet the vine, and the fig tree, and the pomegranate, and the olive tree, hath not brought forth: from this day will I bless you.
*****NOTHING WILL HAPPEN UNTIL THE SEED IS SOWN!
Jas 1:18 [Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures].
**II.) The Parable of the “wheat and the tares”: (ONLY JESUS KNOWS WHO IS SAVED)
Mat 13:24 Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:
Mat 13:25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.
Mat 13:26 But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.
Mat 13:27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?
Mat 13:28 He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?
Mat 13:29 But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them.
Mat 13:30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.
We first see that Jesus said this was another parable.
***a.) They look alike.
When we look at another person we cannot by looks only tell if they are saved or not. We cannot see into their hearts. BUT GOD CAN!
When the Church sleeps and allows the enemy to come into the Church we can expect him, Satan to plant some of his disciples in the Church. Many so called Churches decide by the way you dress or look if you can be a member. We have the answer of our Lord Jesus in this parable.
Sowed (ἐπέσπειρεν)
The preposition ἐπί, upon, indicates sowing over what was previously sown.
Paul wrote:
Act 20:29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.
Act 20:30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.
Again:
Gal 2:4 And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage:
***b.) Only the Lord “really knows”.
Hell is real. The Lord says the tares will be gathered and burned.
1Ti 5:24 says Some men’s sins are open beforehand, going before to judgment; and some men they follow after.
We may be able to see some sins that are open but some will not be known until the judgment.
1Co 4:4 says For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord.
1Co 4:5 Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.
Jesus said:
Joh 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.
Joh 15:6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.
Joh 15:7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.
Joh 15:8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.
***c.) The “Harvest” represents the RAPTURE of the Church.
The Barn is Heaven.(my barn)
1Th 4:16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
1Th 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
1Th 4:18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
**III.) The Parable of the “Mustard Seed”: (THE CHURCH SEEMS AS NOTHING TO THE WORLD).
Mat 13:31 [Another parable] put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field:
Mat 13:32 Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof.
***a.) The tiniest of all seeds represents the Gospel. (THE GOSPEL, A TINY INSIGNIFICANT NOTHING AS FAR AS THE WORLD IS CONCERNED.)
***b.) The Church has become a tree. A lodging place for all types. Because of the Cross of Jesus the Church has grown.
Psa 72:16 says There shall be an handful of corn in the earth upon the top of the mountains; the fruit thereof shall shake like Lebanon: and they of the city shall flourish like grass of the earth.
Psa 72:17 His name shall endure for ever: his name shall be continued as long as the sun: and men shall be blessed in him: all nations shall call him blessed.
Psa 72:18 Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel, who only doeth wondrous things.
***b.) Birds of all sorts:
There will be Red birds, Sparrows and Blue birds, and peacocks but there will also be buzzards, and eagles and crows and even mocking birds amongst them all.
***c.) The “CHURCH” is the greatest entity on Earth. (THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST)
Eph 5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife, [even as Christ is the head of the church]: and he is the saviour of the body.
Eph 5:24 Therefore [as the church is subject unto Christ], so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
Eph 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, [even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it];
Eph 5:26 [That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,]
Eph 5:27 [That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish].
**IV.) The parable of the “leaven”: (How blessed are we)
Mat 13:33 Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened.
Leaven is as “yeast”. When it is used in the bread dough it will expand and cause the dough to rise.
Leaven represents the Holy Ghost here in this parable.
Joh 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
Joh 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
***a.) A small amount will get the job done.
Heb 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
This is a picture of the sanctification of the Saint of God.
2Th 2:13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:
2Th 2:14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
***b.) It is hidden within you.
You cannot see the Holy Spirit.
Joh 3:7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
Joh 3:8 [The wind bloweth where it listeth], and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: [so is every one that is born of the Spirit].
***c.) Keep living for God (till the whole is leavened) and for Sanctification.
1Pe 1:7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
1Pe 1:8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
1Pe 1:9 Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.
**V.) The Parable of the “hidden treasure”.
Mat 13:44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.
***a.) The “treasure” is the JEWELS OF JOY.
Mat 25:23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: [enter thou into the joy of thy lord].
JESUS CHRIST IS THE ULTIMATE CHOICE!
***b.) Hid in the field. (I was once lost out in the world).
Eph 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
Eph 2:2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
Eph 2:3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
1Co 6:9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,
1Co 6:10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
1Co 6:11 [And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.]
***c.) IT’S WORTH IT ALL! He sold all he had to get it.
Few men understand how great the riches of the Kingdom of Heaven are, and that no man can be a partaker of them [but he that redeems them with the “loss” of all his goods.]
2Co 8:9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.
Pro 10:22 The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.
Rom 10:12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
**VI.) The Parable of the “Pearl”: (The Church is important to Jesus)
Mat 13:45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls:
Mat 13:46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.
***a.) The pearl represents the Church.
The Church has great value. Jesus Christ gave all he had for the Church.
Act 20:28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, [which he hath purchased with his own blood].
Remember the gates are of pearl in New Jerusalem:
Rev 21:21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.
***b.) Jesus gave all He had.
Heb 9:11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;
Heb 9:12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
Heb 9:13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:
Heb 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
Heb 9:15 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.
Heb 9:16 For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.
Heb 9:17 For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth.
***c.) The Church was bought with a price.
1Pe 1:18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
1Pe 1:19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
1Pe 1:20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
1Pe 1:21 Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
1Co 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.
**VII.) The parable of the “net”. (The WORK of the Church)
Mat 13:47 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind:
Mat 13:48 Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away.
Mat 13:49 So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just,
Mat 13:50 And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
Mat 13:51 Jesus saith unto them, Have ye understood all these things? They say unto him, Yea, Lord.
***a.) The Church will gather all kinds.
Mat 10:32 [Whosoever] therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.
***b.) The Judgment is coming.
Mat 3:12 Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.
***c.) There will be a judgment:
The net is drawn in.
Heb 10:30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, [The Lord shall judge his people].
2Co 5:10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
