Systematic Theology (Part eight)

“SYSYTEMATIC THEOLOGY” (Part eight)

INTRO: To add to all our other tools in the Study of God and His word we need to understand ” TYPOLOGY “. Many scriptures in the Bible will not only say what they do but can sometimes have a much deeper meaning. There are “People” used in “TYPOLOGY”.

Adam, a Type of Christ.

1Co 15:45  And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit.

Eve, a Type of the Church.

Gen 2:21  And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
Gen 2:22  And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.

Joh 19:34  But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water.

Mephibosheth, a Type of sinner.

2Sa 9:1  And David said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may shew him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?

2Sa 9:10  Thou therefore, and thy sons, and thy servants, shall till the land for him, and thou shalt bring in the fruits, that thy master’s son may have food to eat: but Mephibosheth thy master’s son shall eat bread alway at my table. Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.

The Exodus Journey, a Type of journey of the saved sinner.

Deu 8:7  For the LORD thy God bringeth thee into a good land, a land of brooks of water, of fountains and depths that spring out of valleys and hills;

The Temple, a Type Salvation of Jesus and the Cross.

Joh 2:19  Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.
Joh 2:20  Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days?
Joh 2:21  But he spake of the temple of his body.

Mat 26:61  And said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.

Mat 27:40  And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.
Mat 27:41  Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said,
Mat 27:42  He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.

Mat 27:62  Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate,
Mat 27:63  Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again.
Mat 27:64  Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first.

Temple = MY SAVED LIFE.

I.) RAHAB

Jos 2:1  And Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men to spy secretly, saying, Go view the land, even Jericho. And they went, and came into an harlot’s house, named Rahab, and lodged there.

Jos 2:12  Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the LORD, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father’s house, and give me a true token:

Jos 2:18  Behold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt bring thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father’s household, home unto thee.
Jos 2:19  And it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we will be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him.

Jos 6:25  And Joshua saved Rahab the harlot alive, and her father’s household, and all that she had; and she dwelleth in Israel even unto this day; because she hid the messengers, which Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.

Mat 1:5  And Salmon begat Booz of [Rachab]; and Booz begat Obed of Ruth; and Obed begat Jesse;

Luk 3:32  Which was the son of Jesse, which was the son of Obed, which was the son of Booz, which was the son of [Salmon], which was the son of Naasson,

   a.) THE RED CHORD = A”TYPE” OF THE BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST.

Heb 9:22  And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

   b.) RAHAB’S BAD CHARACTER(Harlot) = A “TYPE” OF SINNER.

   c.) JERICHO THE CONDEMNED CITY = A “TYPE’ OF OUR CONDEMNED WORLD.

Rom 8:1  There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

   d.) THE DOCTRINE OF SUBSTITUTION = Jos 2:14  And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business. And it shall be, when the LORD hath given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.

1Jn 2:2  And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

II.) JACOB’S LADDER

Gen 28:12  And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.
Gen 28:13  And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed;

   a.) THE ANNOINTED STONE = A “TYPE’ OF CHURCH

Gen 28:18  And Jacob rose up early in the morning, and [took the stone that he had put for his pillows, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it.
Gen 28:19  And he called the name of that place Bethel]: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.

BETH(house)EL(God) = HOUSE OF GOD

Mat 16:18  And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and [upon this rock I will build my church]; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

   b.) THE LADDER = A “TYPE” OF SALVATION.

Gen 28:12  And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and [the top of it reached to heaven]: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.

   c.) THE RUNGS OF THE LADDER = A “TYPE” OF THE STEPS TO SALVATION.

Rom 10:9  That if thou shalt [confess with thy mouth] the Lord Jesus, and shalt [believe in thine heart] that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Rom 10:10  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

     1.) BELIEVE
     2.) REPENT
     3.) SINNERS PRAYER
     4.) PROFESSION OF FAITH

   d.) BETHEL = HOUSE OF GOD = A “TYPE” OF THE CHURCH.

III.) MANNA

Exo 16:4  Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, [I will rain bread from heaven for you]; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.

   a.) Manna = A “Type” of CHRIST:

Joh 6:31  Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat.
Joh 6:32  Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.
Joh 6:33  For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.
Joh 6:34  Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.
Joh 6:35  And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

   b.) Manna was “SWEET” = LOVE OF GOD.

Exo 16:31  And the house of Israel called the name thereof Manna: and it was like coriander seed, white; and [the taste of it was like wafers made with honey].

COMPARE:

Psa 34:8  O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.

Psa 119:103  How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

   c.) Manna was “SMALL” = Jesus is “insignificant” to the world outside the Church.

Exo 5:2  And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.

2Ch 32:19  And they spake against the God of Jerusalem, as against the gods of the people of the earth, which were the work of the hands of man.

Job 21:15  What is the Almighty, that we should serve him? and what profit should we have, if we pray unto him?

Psa 12:4  Who have said, With our tongue will we prevail; our lips are our own: who is lord over us?

Psa 14:1  <To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.> The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.

New Testament:

2Th 2:1  Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
2Th 2:2  That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand.
2Th 2:3  Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
2Th 2:4  Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
2Th 2:5  Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?

   d.) Manna was “white” and “unspotted” = The Purity of Christ Jesus:

Exo 16:31  And the house of Israel called the name thereof Manna: and it was like coriander seed, [white]; and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.

Num 11:7  And the manna was as coriander seed, and the colour thereof as the colour of [bdellium]. (pearl)

compare:

1Jn 3:2  Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.
1Jn 3:3  And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, [even as he is pure].

Mat 13:45  Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls:
Mat 13:46  Who, when he had found [one pearl of great price], went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

   e.) Manna was for a brief time = Jesus only ministered for three years:

Exo 16:19  And Moses said, Let no man leave of it till the morning.
Exo 16:20  Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto Moses; but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms, and stank: and Moses was wroth with them.

compare:

We do not know for sure the exact age of Jesus when He was crucified, but He was probably 33 years old. Here is the argument.
Jesus was baptized. But the reason He was baptized was to “fulfill all righteousness,”.
Mat 3:15  And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
He had to fulfill the legal requirements for entering into the priesthood after the order of Melchizedek.
Psa 110:4  The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.

Heb 5:8  Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
Heb 5:9  And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;
Heb 5:10  Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.
Heb 6:20  Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
Priests offered sacrifice to God on behalf of the people. Jesus became a sacrifice for our sin in His role as priest.
1Pe 2:24  Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
2Co 5:21  For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
To be consecrated as a priest, Jesus had to be:
1) washed with water – baptism:
Lev 8:6  And Moses brought Aaron and his sons, and washed them with water.
Exo 29:4  And Aaron and his sons thou shalt bring unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and shalt wash them with water.
compare:
Mat 3:16  And Jesus, [when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water]: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
2) Anointed with oil – the Holy Spirit:
Lev 8:12  And he poured of the anointing oil upon Aaron’s head, and anointed him, to sanctify him.
Exo 29:7  Then shalt thou take the anointing oil, and pour it upon his head, and anoint him.
Mat 3:16  And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and [he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him]:
3.) Additionally, He may have needed to be 30 years old:
Num 4:3  From thirty years old and upward even until fifty years old, all that enter into the host, to do the work in the tabernacle of the congregation.
Therefore we can conclude that Jesus began His earthly ministry at the age of 30. Since it went on for 3 1/2 years before Jesus was crucified, it is safe to say that He was 33 at the time of His death.
    f.) Manna was “FREE” = A “PICTURE” of God’s “GIFT” of SALVATION.
Act 8:20  But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.

Rom 6:23  For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

   g.) Manna was “provided” for “EVERYBODY”= Salvation is for “EVERYBODY”.

2Pe 3:9  The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, [not willing that any should perish], but [that all] should come to repentance.

1Ti 2:3  For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
1Ti 2:4  Who will have [all men] to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
1Ti 2:5  For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
1Ti 2:6  [Who gave himself a ransom for all], to be testified in due time.

   h.) Manna had a “SUSTAINING POWER” = Jesus Christ is our “SUSTAINING POWER”.

Exo 16:35  And the children of Israel [did eat manna forty years], until they came to a land inhabited; they did eat manna, until they came unto the borders of the land of Canaan.

Moses after eating Manna for forty years:

Deu 34:7  And Moses was an hundred and twenty years old when he died: his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated.

compare:

The words of Our Lord:

Joh 6:50  This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.
Joh 6:51  I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

IV.) THE CITIES OF REFUGE:

Num 35:6  And among the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites there shall be six cities for refuge, which ye shall appoint for the manslayer, that he may flee thither: and to them ye shall add forty and two cities.

Jos 20:1  The LORD also spake unto Joshua, saying,
Jos 20:2  Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses:
Jos 20:3  That the slayer that killeth any person unawares and unwittingly may flee thither: and they shall be your refuge from the avenger of blood.
Jos 20:4  And when he that doth flee unto one of those cities shall stand at the entering of the gate of the city, and shall declare his cause in the ears of the elders of that city, they shall take him into the city unto them, and give him a place, that he may dwell among them.
Jos 20:5  And if the avenger of blood pursue after him, then they shall not deliver the slayer up into his hand; because he smote his neighbour unwittingly, and hated him not beforetime.
Jos 20:6  And he shall dwell in that city, until he stand before the congregation for judgment, and until the death of the high priest that shall be in those days: then shall the slayer return, and come unto his own city, and unto his own house, unto the city from whence he fled.
Jos 20:7  And they appointed Kedesh in Galilee in mount Naphtali, and Shechem in mount Ephraim, and Kirjatharba, which is Hebron, in the mountain of Judah.
Jos 20:8  And on the other side Jordan by Jericho eastward, they assigned Bezer in the wilderness upon the plain out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh.

   a.) KADESH = RIGHTEOUSNESS (ADONI-KADESH):

Jer 23:6  In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

This would be JEHOVAH-TSIDKENU according to Jeremiah.

Rom 3:22  Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:

Php 3:9  And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

2Ti 4:8  Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

Rev 16:5  And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus.

   b.) SHECHEM = SHOULDER

Luk 15:4  What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?
Luk 15:5  And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing.
Luk 15:6  And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost.

1Pe 2:25  For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

   c.) HEBRON = FELLOWSHIP

1Co 1:9  God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

1Jn 1:3  That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

   d.) BEZER = FORTRESS

2Sa 22:2  And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;
2Sa 22:3  The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.
2Sa 22:4  I will call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

Psa 18:2  The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.
Psa 18:3  I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

Psa 91:2  I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.

   e.) RAMOTH = EXALTED

Luk 14:11  For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Mat 23:11  But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.
Mat 23:12  And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

   f.) GOLAN = JOY

Psa 51:12  Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.

Hab 3:18  Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.

1Pe 4:12  Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:
1Pe 4:13  But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.

V.) THE PASSOVER LAMB;

Exo 12:1  And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying,
Exo 12:2  This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.
Exo 12:3  Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:
Exo 12:4  And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb.
Exo 12:5  Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:
Exo 12:6  And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.
Exo 12:7  And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it.
Exo 12:8  And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.
Exo 12:9  Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof.
Exo 12:10  And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire.
Exo 12:11  And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD’S passover.
Exo 12:12  For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.
Exo 12:13  And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.
Exo 12:14  And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.

   a.) The Beginning of Months = A New Life; BORN AGAIN

Joh 3:3  Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

   b.) Lamb without a Blemish = The PERFECTION of CHRIST

Heb 5:8  Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;

   d.) The BLOOD on the DOOR = The Entrance to Heaven

Joh 10:9  I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.

Heb 10:19  Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,
Heb 10:20  By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;
Heb 10:21  And having an high priest over the house of God;
Heb 10:22  Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

   e.) Could not be SODDENED with Water = THE GOSPEL MUST NOT EVER BE WATERED DOWN.

Gal 1:6  I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
Gal 1:7  Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
Gal 1:8  But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
Gal 1:9  As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
Gal 1:10  For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.
Gal 1:11  But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.
Gal 1:12  For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.

   f.) SLAIN AT TWILIGHT (not dark not light) = THE CROSS AT CALVARY.

   g.) THE DOOR POST = THE BLOOD ON THE DOOR REPRESENT THE BLOODY CROSS.

Amen
