Why Can’t We Just Get Ourselves Out Of God’s Way?

WHY CANT WE GET OUT OF GOD’S WAY?

God Still Provides Providentially

Text: Genesis 27-29

Focus: Genesis 27:28-30,41; 28:1-3, 13-15, 19-22; 29:25-30

Forty years had passed and Esau had taken him a wife. In fact, Esau had taken him two wives and both were Canaanite women. We know in the life time of Abraham and Isaac this was not taught, so we have to believe Esau had learned this from his surroundings. In other words this was common among the Canaanite clan.

To revue:

Gen 25:20 And Isaac was forty years old when he took Rebekah to wife, the daughter of Bethuel the Syrian of Padanaram, the sister to Laban the Syrian.

Gen 25:21 And Isaac intreated the LORD for his wife, because she was barren: and the LORD was intreated of him, and Rebekah his wife conceived.

Gen 25:22 And the children struggled together within her; and she said, If it be so, why am I thus? And she went to enquire of the LORD.

Gen 25:23 And the LORD said unto her, [Two nations are in thy womb, and two manner of people shall be separated from thy bowels; and the one people shall be stronger than the other people; and the elder shall serve the younger].

Gen 25:24 And when her days to be delivered were fulfilled, behold, there were twins in her womb.

Let’s add this verse:

Gen 25:34 Then Jacob gave Esau bread and pottage of lentiles; and he did eat and drink, and rose up, and went his way: [thus Esau despised his birthright].

What was the birthright of Esau?

Gen 26:3 Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father;

Gen 26:4 And I will make thy seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed;

Gen 26:5 [Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws].

Esau didn’t want to have anything to do with the covenant God had made with his grandfather and passed down to his dad. He despised it! He hated it!

God later said of this incident:

Mal 1:2 I have loved you, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, Wherein hast thou loved us? Was not Esau Jacob’s brother? saith the LORD: yet I loved Jacob,

Mal 1:3 And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness.

The Apostle Paul wrote also of this when he was referring to the promise God had made. Paul was saying not all in Israel were true Israel and that holds true even unto our day:

Rom 9:6 Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:

Rom 9:13 As it is written, Jacob have I loved, but Esau have I hated.

In fact we have another description that also doesn’t paint a pretty picture of Esau:

Heb 12:16 Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, [as Esau], who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.

Esau is one of the first character stories of someone that knew God and lived in a godly family but refused to accept the blessings of God because he just was not going to obey the Word of God. He still wanted the blessings but he was not going to obey God. The world is full of people like Esau today. They want to go to Heaven and get God’s blessings and they feel like God owes them that, but they despise the Word of God. They live for today with no regard for what may come tomorrow and don’t care how it affects their family and friends. With these things in mind let’s continue. Remember Isaac and Rebekah had had, what many would consider a story book romance. Now we will see that with some scheming on the part of both of them there was friction between this family that would go all the way to the day of Jesus and even further.

Our Text:

Gen 27:28 Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine:

Gen 27:29 Let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother’s sons bow down to thee: cursed be every one that curseth thee, and blessed be he that blesseth thee.

Gen 27:30 And it came to pass, as soon as Isaac had made an end of blessing Jacob, and Jacob was yet scarce gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting.

Gen 27:41 And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing wherewith his father blessed him: and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then will I slay my brother Jacob.

Gen 28:1 And Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, and charged him, and said unto him, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.

Gen 28:2 Arise, go to Padanaram, to the house of Bethuel thy mother’s father; and take thee a wife from thence of the daughters of Laban thy mother’s brother.

Gen 28:3 And God Almighty bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, that thou mayest be a multitude of people;

Before we begin let’s be clear on Isaac. Isaac live for close to fifty years after this incident. I believe he lost his vision at this age and felt he could not have many more years which turned out not to be true. He still wanted to pass the leadership role of the family over to his son and he chose Esau.

What we actually see is that Isaac may have lost his spiritual vision also. He chose Esau because he was a man’s man. What we know is that God had chosen Jacob.

God had told Rachel:

“the elder shall serve the younger”

God would see that this would take place. He didn’t need the help of Rachel nor that of Isaac.

“We simply need to stay out of God’s way”!

With the interference of Isaac and Rachel and also Jacob himself, we can see this family would live in strife their remaining days.

Rachel wanted Jacob to have the blessing of his earthly dad which shows she had no faith in the Heavenly Father. Isaac was doing as a normal dad would do in passing his wealth over to his eldest son but he had no reason to do this at this time because his life was not over and he would live for many more years.

To me, I believe it was when I turned 55 years old that I felt my days were numbered and when I was diagnosed with cancer at 59 years old, I just knew my days were numbered. I believe Isaac let his blindness do this to him. By the way at this time I have no signs of cancer because I have a healing God.

Rebekah and Jacob conceived a scheme against Isaac and it had worked. Isaac had been deceived into believing Jacob was Esau and it was Jacob that received the blessing of Isaac instead of Esau.

It was not God behind this deception, God does not need our help to get His will done. What happens is we will get left out of the blessings of God and deception would follow Jacob for most of his life. Rachel had said that let God curse her instead of Jacob and so it was. God will punish our sin. He will forgive us if we pray with a repentant heart but we will still feel that Heavenly Hickory and so it should be. We that believe are truly blessed just to miss out on Hell. Certainly, we deserve to be punished for our failures. God has dusted my britches a few times and I will be quite honest with you, I don’t want anymore whippings. They hurt!

We can see that no one sought the will of God in this matter. The name “Jacob” means to supplant or to defraud the efforts of another. It would be God that would change that name in a few years. At this time this family was divided and things would never be the same for any of them.

This family had forgotten three things:

1.) 1Pe 3:17 For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.

2.) 1Pe 2:15 For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men:

3.) 1Jn 2:17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

Verse 40 is not part of our lesson but in this blessing of Isaac we see that the descendants of Esau would serve the descendants of Jacob. God had said that much to Rebekah. What else do we see. This verse says that one day those of Esau would break the yoke of servant hood off their neck. Not many realize that this happened in the rule of the Herods. Though many times in the Bible it tells us where Edom revolted from Judah the yoke was actually broken by the Herods.

The Herods were of Idumean descent!

The Bible says:

Eze 35:15 As thou didst rejoice at the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so will I do unto thee: thou shalt be desolate, O mount Seir, and all Idumea, even all of it: and they shall know that I am the LORD.

Compare:

Gen 36:8 Thus dwelt Esau in mount Seir: Esau is Edom.

Gen 36:9 And these are the generations of Esau the father of the Edomites in mount Seir:

The Herods broke the yoke of the rule of Jacob/Israel over them when they ruled as

kings of Israel and after this the descendants of Esau more or less are never heard of

again.

Of course we know that these stood against Our Lord And Savior Jesus the Christ.

Peter said:

Act 4:26 The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against his Christ.

Act 4:27 For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together,

Act 4:28 For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done.

In other words the World treated Jesus just like God said it would.

And God knew it would happen though had they realized what they were doing there

might not be salvation for anyone.

1Co 2:6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought:

1Co 2:7 But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory:

1Co 2:8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.

It’s best we stay out of God’s way and make the World a safer place while we are still

here.

If we are being led by the Holy Spirit, we will not have our nose in God’s business!

Jesus said to follow Him. He did not say to try to trip Him up by trying to pass Him.

(Verse 41)

The results: Esau hated Jacob and he was planning a murder after the death of his

father.

Also not covered in our lesson but in verse 45:

Gen 27:45 Until thy brother’s anger turn away from thee, and he forget that which thou hast done to him: then I will send, and fetch thee from thence: [why should I be deprived also of you both in one day]?

We see some strong words of Rebekah. Had Esau slain Jacob it was her intent to slay

Esau. We can see how this once solid family could fall into the traps of murder and

evil over something that God said He would do without their help.

If we cannot see the hand of the Devil/Satan in this we are missing something. Had

Rebekah slain both these sons it would have ended the line to the Messiah. Satan did

not know which one would be used of God and his plan could have succeeded in his

evil mind.

(verse 28:1)

Now we can see the truth in the wisdom of God:

Pro 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

The best thing of the worse things happening in this family is that the Husband Isaac

and the wife Rebekah still kept their heads about them. They realized some of their

error and knew it was best to send Jacob away. Rebekah knew it was best that Jacob

take a wife from her family and Isaac agreed. She also knew Jacob would not go

unless sent by Isaac his dad.

Before Jacob left, Isaac spoke to him of the covenant blessing that would be on his

shoulders but he must first trust on God. It seems that none of this family at this time

really trusted in God. We will see how God will work through Jacob while correcting

his errors in judgment. Remember Jacob is over 4o years old at this time. By the Bible

a man is mature at 50 years old.

Just to touch on a couple of things. The Bible teaches against interracial marriage.

Not because God chooses one race above the other. There are so many differences in

all of us culturally and physically that create so many problems that it makes the

marriage vows harder sometimes to fulfill. Not only that but the children of these

marriages struggle sometimes with their identity and life is hard enough. God knows

what he is doing and it’s best we trust in His ways. The only ground of equality we

have on this Earth is in the Church. Everyone is on equal standing in the Church at

least in the true Church, those that follow God’s Word.

Rom 10:11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

Rom 10:12 [For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him].

Rom 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

God puts all races of people back together in this one place only! The World will never

see it this way, though it try.

*****Our text:

Gen 28:13 And, behold, the LORD stood above it, and said, I am the LORD God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac: the land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed;

Gen 28:14 And thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south: and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.

Gen 28:15 And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.

Gen 28:19 And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first.

Gen 28:20 And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,

Gen 28:21 So that I come again to my father’s house in peace; then shall the LORD be my God:

Gen 28:22 And this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God’s house: and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.

Before we go further we can see where Esau is watching everything that is going on.

He already had two wives, “not Biblical teaching”, and either out of spite or out of

ignorance he went to Ishmael and married one of his daughters. The line of Ishmael

had already been rejected by God as we have learned but his daughters were not from

Canaan. The wife of Ishmael was Egyptian. Either way this would bring no further

blessing from his father Isaac.

The line to the Messiah would be through Jacob and the Book of Genesis will

concentrate for the most part on Jacob for awhile.

Jacob’s ladder:

Verse 12 tells us Jacob had a dream. 85 five times in the Book of Genesis God uses the

word dream or dreams or dreamed. They are used only 114 times throughout the Bible. God

used the dream in communicating His Will to men. The Scripture declares that the influence

of the Spirit of God upon the soul extends to its sleeping as well as its waking

thoughts.

What we find of dreams for the most part is that where dreams are recorded as means

of God’s revelation to his chosen servants, they are almost always referred to the

periods of their earliest and most imperfect knowledge of him. A dream in reality is a

vision while sleeping.

It is in this passage that God reveals Himself to Jacob and reaffirms the covenant He made with Abraham, promising Jacob that his offspring will be many and that the Promised Land will one day belong to his descendants. In this vision Jacob sees something similar to a ladder or a stairway (Hebrew word: Sullam) which signifies a connection between God and man. In this instance, it was God who provided the means necessary to link Himself to man as opposed to the men of Babel in Genesis 11 who tried to reach heaven by their own actions, aside from the help of God.

Remember at the Tower of Babel, those people tried to reach heaven based on their own actions aside from God’s help, but here with Jacob the access to Heaven is based on the provisions of God and only the provisions of God.

As Christians we see this dream of Jacob’s as highly symbolic, representing the Mediator, Jesus Christ, who came to earth and became that ladder or stairway for us to reconnect the relationship with God that was severed because of sin.

The Bible says:

Rom 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

Rom 5:2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

According to the Bible, Jesus was our ideal “Jacob’s Ladder” who came to earth, from the line of Jacob, through the provisions of God, and redeemed us so that we may live in heaven for eternity.

*****Verse 15:

God not only presented Himself to Jacob as the God of his fathers, and He confirmed

to him all the promises of the fathers in their fullest extent, but promised him

protection on his journey and a safe return to his home.

You know God promises every born again Christian this same promise:

Heb 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

Heb 13:6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

When we have accomplished the work God has for us, He will then take us home.

Just like Abraham:

Heb 11:9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:

Heb 11:10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

Heb 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

*****verse 19:

Luz the word means: “separation and departure”.

Bethel means “The House of God” [Beth means house and El means God]

We can see that a place of separation had become a place of assembling once God

entered the picture.

If we refer back to verse 16 we see the words “Surely the LORD is in this place; and I

knew it not”.

I just wander how many other people just like myself went into the House of God and

once they realized, like myself that I’m a dirty sinner and then find the grace of God,

have these very words.

Surely God is in this place and I knew it not!

The Bible tells us to not forsake the assembling in the House of God.

Heb 10:25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

And in these “end times” to assemble more often and not less as many Churches in

my area are limiting them selves to only the Sunday service or leaving out the

Wednesday service or prayer meeting.

It’s a sad day to see the Church house closed when they should be open! I know that

where ever people are they can worship God. I also know that in the Book of

Revelation, Jesus said the seven stars were the angels of the churches. I believe that

this means the Pastors of these churches. If we cannot go to a place and get

ministered to by the ones God has called to do so, then how can we call ourselves

followers of Christ Jesus and servants of God.

Jacob builds his first altar in this places that will be called Bethel, “the House of God”.

Here Jacob got serious about serving God and made a vow. Look at his “if”.

“If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me

bread to eat, and raiment to put on, So that I come again to my father’s house in

peace”

If we obey God’s Word we find out that this is exactly what God says He will do for us

all.

When we bow on our knees and accept the Lord Jesus Christ as our “Savior” we are

making this same vow. We are promising Jesus that we will follow Him in every way.

That is repenting our old way of life and turning toward God. Repenting is not

saying “I’m sorry”. Repenting is doing something about it with God’s help!

We can see in verse 22 that Jacob establishes the tithe to the House of God. Abraham

paid a tithe and Isaac probably paid tithes but we see this vow to pay the tithe to the

House of God. This is before any law of Moses or any other law. This the word of God

laying a ground work for the New Testament Church.

*****Our text:

Gen 29:25 And it came to pass, that in the morning, behold, it was Leah: and he said to Laban, What is this thou hast done unto me? did not I serve with thee for Rachel? wherefore then hast thou beguiled me?

Gen 29:26 And Laban said, It must not be so done in our country, to give the younger before the firstborn.

Gen 29:27 Fulfil her week, and we will give thee this also for the service which thou shalt serve with me yet seven other years.

Gen 29:28 And Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week: and he gave him Rachel his daughter to wife also.

Gen 29:29 And Laban gave to Rachel his daughter Bilhah his handmaid to be her maid.

Gen 29:30 And he went in also unto Rachel, and he loved also Rachel more than Leah, and served with him yet seven other years.

Jacob had quit fleeing from Esau at Bethel(house of God) and he had started

searching for a wife. He had gotten peace for himself.

You it was at the house of God that I quit fleeing from my sinful life and started

searching and seeking God. Those that tell you it is not important to go to church are

telling you a lie. It is important. That’s where I found my peace. Jacob had found

peace also. We will stop running and start seeking if we attend the house of God and

find Jesus Christ. Jacob understood that the Lord was with him now.

Psa 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

You see Jacob had traveled another 500 miles not knowing exactly where he was

going. There are no more incidents recorded in his travel and he ended up at the right

place at the exact right time. You can say what you will, these things don’t happen by

accident.

You see the Holy Ghost will never lead you astray if you will follow his lead!

Psa 31:3 For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name’s sake lead me, and guide me.

No matter what we are going through, no matter how high the flood waters of life

get, the Holy Spirit will still lead us to safety!

Psa 61:2 From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

If I follow Him, He will lead me to my Home in Heaven.

Psa 143:10 Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.

When Jacob knew God had lead him to this place he had tears of Joy.

Psa 30:5 For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

*****The Dowry:

In the Eastern culture, the father of the bride was entitled to compensation for the

years of training she received in his home and for the loss he would endure for her

lack of service after she was gone. The arrangements were made with the groom or

someone representing the groom. The terms would have to be met before the wedding

could take place.

Jacob elected to serve seven years labor for the hand of Rachel in marriage and it was

agreed upon by both parties.

You can believe that for those seven years Jacob never took his eyes off Rachel and

the Bible has said she was beautiful.

Leah on the other hand is said to be tender-eyed. In the eyes of Jacob she was not

beautiful like Rachel but if I had been watching my future bride for seven years it

would have been hard to fool me I believe.

She had to at least bodily and build be very similar to Rachel. The phrase tender-eyed

at best means she had great emotional softness and tender at heart. She was timid.

She may not have smiled much nor been happy with her life. This may be why she

played along with her father the night of the wedding. She could have told Jacob at

any time that she was not Rachel but she did not.

Laban on the other hand had out schemed the schemer, with his daughters help and

we know Rachel either could not do anything or chose not to do anything.

The Bible says:

Pro 13:15 Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.

The Bible also says:

Luk 6:38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.

It was till morning time or daylight before Jacob knew he had been wronged by

Laban. Jacob’s lust had overcome his good sense.

Though the Christian who errs may not be forsaken of God, he is permitted to reap

the shame and sorrow of his self-chosen way.

Verse 26 mentions a custom that may not be true but Laban had armed himself with

all the neighboring men in case Jacob caused trouble, which he did not with the

promise of his beloved Rachel.

The wedding feast did seem to have a custom of lasting for a week and Laban

promised Jacob if he would fulfill his obligation of marriage to Leah for seven days

then he would also give Rachel to him on the eighth day, buy only if he worked for

seven more years.

Laban gave each one a handmaid. This made four women who would bare the twelve

sons of Jacob who would be the father of the twelve tribes of Israel.

Now having more than one wife was not wrong in the land that would be known as

Syria. The Mosaic laws had not been written at this time but we know from the time

of Adam and Eve God taught to have only one wife.

Gen 2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

It takes two, one man and one woman to become one flesh or one marriage in the

eyes of God. Does this mean one wife at a time. There are instances in the Bible where

there are second marriages and these are approved of God but there are some reasons

that this would not be true also.

Once Rachel became the wife of Jacob we see that family strife begins with it.

God is concerned about every choice we make! He prefers that we make one certain

choice, to put our faith in Him and in His Son. It is wise to include God in every plan

we make and we do that through prayer.

God has long arms to reach way down deep to pull us out of our sinful lives. That is

because has long tentacles. Sin reaches across generations and also affects the lives of

innocent people. Jacob would not have a happy home most all his remaining days.

His wives were in constant struggle and his sons acted like enemies to each other. God

would use this group of people to begin the Great Nation of Israel.

You see even when we hinder the work of God, He still has His way in this World. We

just miss out on the peace and understanding of the truth of the Gospel.

When we sin after we are saved we must repent first but we will still feel the effects of

that sin. God will deal with sin in His way. God will not be mocked by our conduct.

The Bible says:

Psa 118:18 The LORD hath chastened me sore: but he hath not given me over unto death.

1Co 11:32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

Praise the Lord.

Let’s pray.

Text Genesis 24-26

Focus: Gen 24:2-8, 12-16, 24, 26, 27, 58, 67

We briefly mentioned “typology” in the last lesson. Typology is the study of the Bible in types. Typology is that many, if not all, of the stories in the Bible have a deeper Spiritual Truth. What we will see in this lesson is the picture in type of the “Bride of Christ”.

The Bible says:

Eph 5:23  For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
Eph 5:24  Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
Eph 5:25  Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
Eph 5:26  That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
Eph 5:27  That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

There is no doubt of the loving relationship of Christ with His Church. The New Testament Church is the “Bride of Christ”.

Eph 5:1  Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;
Eph 5:2  And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

Just as in the Oriental wedding custom, at the engagement(betrothal), the Bride receives the promise of future blessings, WITH HER HUSBAND. The Church is the espoused Bride, awaiting her Husband’s return.

The second stage of the Oriental marriage was the wedding itself, when the Husband came to take the Bride to be with Him. (Rapture) The Church now waits for this to happen.

Jesus Christ said:

Joh 14:1  Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
Joh 14:2  In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
Joh 14:3  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

and He told Paul to write these words:

1Th 4:16  For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
1Th 4:17  Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

The wedding feast would soon follow:

Rev 19:7  Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.
Rev 19:8  And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.
Rev 19:9  And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.

The Glory of the Millennial Kingdom would follow after this!

Paul said these things were a mystery:

Rom 16:25  Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,
Rom 16:26  But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:
Rom 16:27  To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen.

Satan tries his best to hinder the truth of God’s Word:

2Co 4:4  In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
2Co 4:5  For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake.

The Church did not begin until the Pentecost after the resurrection of Christ but way back in the Book of the Beginnings we can get our first picture in “type” of the “Bride of Christ”.

As we study let’s see the picture of:

1.) Abraham a perfect “type” of Our Father in Heaven planning the wedding:

Mat 22:2  The kingdom of heaven is like unto a certain king, which made a marriage for his son,

2.) Isaac as perfect “type” of the Lord Jesus Christ. Offered up as a sacrifice.

Gen 22:2  And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.

NT.)

Mat 27:22  Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified.
Mat 27:23  And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.

He seeks a Bride and he is to inherit all his father has:

Gen 24:36  And Sarah my master’s wife bare a son to my master when she was old: and unto him hath he given all that he hath.
Gen 24:37  And my master made me swear, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife to my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I dwell:
Gen 24:38  But thou shalt go unto my father’s house, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son.

NT.)

Php 2:9  Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
Php 2:10  That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
Php 2:11  And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

He loves his bride dearly:

Gen 24:67  And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah’s tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death.

NT.)

Eph 5:25  Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

3.) The Servant as a perfect “type” of the Holy Spirit.

He went to Haran for one purpose. To take a bride for Isaac.

NT.)

Act 2:1  And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
Act 2:2  And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
Act 2:3  And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
Act 2:4  And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Act 2:41  Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.
Act 2:42  And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

This Servant gave all honor constantly to the father and the son.

NT.)

Joh 15:26  But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

4.) Rebekah as a perfect “type” of the Church:

Before anyone can enter God’s Church, they must answer the question of the Father’s Servant:

Gen 24:58  And they called Rebekah, and said unto her, Wilt thou go with this man? And she said, I will go.

NT.)

Rom 10:9  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Rom 10:10  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Let’s keep these things in mind as we read this Love story of God after all as God told Noah, Go forth and multiply.

Rom 7:4  Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, [even to him who is raised from the dead], that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

*****Our text:

Gen 24:2  And Abraham said unto his eldest servant of his house, that ruled over all that he had, Put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh:
Gen 24:3  And I will make thee swear by the LORD, the God of heaven, and the God of the earth, that thou shalt not take a wife unto my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell:
Gen 24:4  But thou shalt go unto my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife unto my son Isaac.
Gen 24:5  And the servant said unto him, Peradventure the woman will not be willing to follow me unto this land: must I needs bring thy son again unto the land from whence thou camest?
Gen 24:6  And Abraham said unto him, Beware thou that thou bring not my son thither again.
Gen 24:7  The LORD God of heaven, which took me from my father’s house, and from the land of my kindred, and which spake unto me, and that sware unto me, saying, Unto thy seed will I give this land; he shall send his angel before thee, and thou shalt take a wife unto my son from thence.
Gen 24:8  And if the woman will not be willing to follow thee, then thou shalt be clear from this my oath: only bring not my son thither again.

We first see this servant is to do the will of Abraham and he only. The practice of placing the hand under the thigh can be thought of somewhat like a handshake to seal this oath. We can also see that this servant had the power over everything Abraham owned. In “type” the Holy Spirit has the same power as the Father that is in Heaven.

1.) The Father is God but He is not the Holy Spirit and He is not Christ(The Son).
2.) The Holy Spirit is God but He is not the Father nor is He the Son.
3.) The Son(Christ) is God but He is not the Father nor is He the Holy Spirit.

Thus we have the triune God. Not three God’s, ONLY ONE, but in three persons!

Notice the realization of this truth in this passage:

Luk 3:21  Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that [Jesus] also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,
Luk 3:22  And [the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon him], and [a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art my beloved Son]; in thee I am well pleased.

We have Christ Jesus, The Holy Spirit, and The voice of the Father in Heaven. One God in three persons.

At our level we should notice immediatly that as parents and even grandparents it is a good idea to be involved with the selections our children make for husbands and wives. Maybe not like Abraham but we should get involved at some level as we continuously see marriages fail. This all starts with respecting each other at home at an early age and living by God’s Word. We can also see that this will be a story of “faith”.

Abraham, Isaac’s father intended to insure the seed of Isaac would never mix with the Canaanite women.

Jas 4:4 says  Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? [whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God].

Now in this chapter the name of this servant is not given but in earlier chapters it is said that his name is Eliezer. This name means “God’s helper”. You see even the name reveals him as a “type” of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit does not seek any recognition of His own but His only desire is to lead us to the Son. Eliezer is to lead a wife to Isaac. The Holy Spirit will only bring “glory” and “praise” and “honor” to the Son of God.

Joh 15:26  But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, [he shall testify of me]:

Now this servant did not want to commit to an oath that could not be fulfilled so he ask:

“Peradventure the woman will not be willing to follow me unto this land: must I needs bring thy son again unto the land from whence thou camest?”

The servant was pretty certain he could find a suitable woman but he didn’t know if she would follow him back to Isaac.

We then have Abraham’s answer:

“Beware thou that thou bring not my son thither again”.

In other words this woman would have to act on faith.

Jesus Christ said to Thomas:

Joh 20:29  Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: [blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed].

Abraham said God will send an angel to guide you to the right place. We can see the faith of Abraham again in this verse. Abraham showed how confident he was in the Word of God.

God ask the Church to have the same faith. The Church began after the death, burial, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ. It is our faith that will get us to Heaven. That’s why God wrote this next passage:

Heb 11:6  But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

We can see that Abraham had this kind of faith.

Gal 3:6  Even as Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.
Gal 3:7  Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.
Gal 3:8  And the scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed.
Gal 3:9  So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham.

Gal 3:14  [That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith].

If the Bride of Christ, the Church, is not willing to follow the Lord by the calling of the Holy Ghost then there will be no salvation promise of God. The promise will still be there but without faith in the promises of God there can be no Church.

As witnesses for Christ, the only thing we can do is tell others the story of Christ and most importantly, what Christ has done in our own lives. If this generation will not believe then we are clear of their blood come judgment time.

Joh 8:21  Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.

Joh 8:23  And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.
Joh 8:24  I said therefore unto you, [that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins].

God warns sinners of the wrath to come that they may flee from it. Those who go promiscuously into the mouth of judgment, though they hear the warnings of God’s servants against the dangers of sin, have destroyed themselves.

That’s why at the rapture of the Church those that have heard and rejected the Word of God will not get another chance during the tribulation period.

2Th 2:8  And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:
2Th 2:9  Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,
2Th 2:10  And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; [because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved].

The Wicked One, the Anti-Christ, will be revealed after the rapture of the Church and we can see that those will perish, because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. There will be no last minute Christians that day of those that have heard the Gospel of Christ. The Gospel is the dynamite of God and only the Gospel can do what needs to be done if we faithfully tell others about Jesus Christ and Him Lord.

This servant of Abraham sware an oath to Abraham and The Holy Ghost will do just what God’s sends Him to do.

*****Our text:

Gen 24:12  And he said, O LORD God of my master Abraham, I pray thee, send me good speed this day, and shew kindness unto my master Abraham.
Gen 24:13  Behold, I stand here by the well of water; and the daughters of the men of the city come out to draw water:
Gen 24:14  And let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: let the same be she that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac; and thereby shall I know that thou hast shewed kindness unto my master.
Gen 24:15  And it came to pass, before he had done speaking, that, behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel, son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham’s brother, with her pitcher upon her shoulder.
Gen 24:16  And the damsel was very fair to look upon, a virgin, neither had any man known her: and she went down to the well, and filled her pitcher, and came up.

Verse ten is not part of the lesson but look at what it says. This servant while on this mission for Abraham had all the powers of Abraham.

“for all the goods of his master were in his hand’

There can be no clearer message in “type” that the Holy Spirit has all the powers of God because He is God. As this servant of Abraham could speak for Abraham. The Holy Spirit speaks for the Father.

What is the next thing we see. This servant baths his mission in prayer.

Just as this servant will intercede on behalf of Abraham, the Holy Ghost does intercede on behalf of each child of God:

Rom 8:26  Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

As we reach out to the lost of our own generation we need to always bath our labor and work for the Lord with prayer. A soul winner is one that constantly prays. I know it seems that I can always put a prayer on the back burner but I am only hurting what I do for the Lord and for those closest to me. Prayer is our greatest weapon in this sinful world.

This servant had all the power of Abraham including his riches but he knew that prayer was his greatest asset. We need to learn this lesson well!

Pro 3:5  Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
Pro 3:6  In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Just so you know there is one more who does intercede for us:

Rom 8:34  Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, [who also maketh intercession for us].

Thank you Lord Jesus for praying for my salvation.

What’s the next thing we see?

This servant lays out his fleece. He seeks a sign of God’s response.

It is not irreverent to seek a sign of God but we must realize that we do not notice the signs of God around us most of the time.

1.) Every time a soul is saved, that’s a sign.
2.) Every time a saint of God is healed of a sickness, that’s a sign.
3.) Every time your own prayer is answered, that’s a sign.
4.) There are signs all around us and we seem to never give God the Glory for them.

Why should He show us anything?

But:

In the time of Gideon, He laid out a fleece to prove God and God answered.

Judges 6:37 – 40

Notice now, one of the fastest answered prayers in the Bible:

Verse 15: “before he had done speaking”

In order for this to happen Rebekah would have had to start her trip to the well in advance.

Though we cannot know how many times this happens in this way, God said it will happen more often in the future, especially during the Millennial years:

Isa 65:24  And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.

You know God hears every prayer that is from the heart and He promises an answer to every prayer that reaches into Heaven:

Mar 11:24  Therefore I say unto you, [What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them].

You know God heard and quickly answered this prayer. Rebekah came to the well. The Bible also says Rebekah was beautiful to look upon. This part was not in the prayer. There was no doubt that she was a “Virgin”.

Paul wrote:

2Co 11:2  For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.

Of course Paul was writing to the New Testament Church.

Notice: In verse 13 it is pointed out that the time of women to come out draw water is in the evening, in the cool of the day. These would be the the women recognized by the world to be the, let’s just say, the nice women of the city.

Now compare:

Joh 4:6  Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.
Joh 4:7  There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.

The sixth hour would be high noon, almost the hottest part of the day because women of ill repute by the world were still welcome to sit by the side of Jesus as He witnessed to them. Remember Jesus said:

Joh 4:4  And he must needs go through Samaria.

Just as Jesus knew what time this woman would be at the well in Samaria. The Holy Spirit knew what time Rebekah would be at the well in Mesopotamia.

Don’t you just love the word of God!

No doubt this servant is wide eyed with astonishment, with the quickness of God’s answer.

Verse 21: says the man wondering at her which means in the verse, “he was astonished”, “he was stunned” at the results of God’s prayer so quickly.

God is Great, ALL THE TIME!

Just so we know:

The Number Ten:

The Number ten is a perfect number that represents universality, which is the state of extending to the whole.

The Ten Commandments, The Tithe, The Ten Generations of the Book of Genesis, The Decalogue, The Ten plagues. The temple and the Tabernacle all have Ten in the prevailing measurements. Even these Ten camels have a meaning in this passage.

Note: Ten camels can easily drink 300 gallons of water. I’m sure they weren’t that thirsty this day of Rebekah but she surely made more than one trip to the well and we need to drink of the well of Jesus as often as we can!

Verse 22) The man took a golden earing and two bracelets to reward this wonderful answer to his prayer. She would still have to be verified.

“whose daughter art thou”

Her future hinged on that answer.

Our text:

Gen 24:24  And she said unto him, I am the daughter of Bethuel the son of Milcah, which she bare unto Nahor.

Gen 24:26  And the man bowed down his head, and worshipped the LORD.
Gen 24:27  And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of my master Abraham, who hath not left destitute my master of his mercy and his truth: I being in the way, the LORD led me to the house of my master’s brethren.

Gen 24:58  And they called Rebekah, and said unto her, Wilt thou go with this man? And she said, I will go.

Gen 24:67  And Isaac brought her into his mother Sarah’s tent, and took Rebekah, and she became his wife; and he loved her: and Isaac was comforted after his mother’s death.

This servant of Abraham just realized that God’s angel had led him to the exact, right place.

Gen 24:7  The LORD God of heaven, which took me from my father’s house, and from the land of my kindred, and which spake unto me, and that sware unto me, saying, Unto thy seed will I give this land; [he shall send his angel before thee], and thou shalt take a wife unto my son from thence.

God will never lead His Church down the wrong path:

Psa 73:23  Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.
Psa 73:24  Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.
Psa 73:25  Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.
Psa 73:26  My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.
Psa 73:27  For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee.
Psa 73:28  But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.

I’m going to tell you once you realize God has answered your prayer, you are a poor servant if you do not immediately give Him the thanks He deserves. We need to thank Him just as much for unanswered prayer because we all know we have ask for things that would have hurt us in some way.

Psa 100:4  Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
Psa 100:5  For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

You see it was Rebekah (in Type the Church) that was the chosen one for Isaac (in Type Jesus Christ).

The Bible says of the Church:

Eph 2:19  Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;
Eph 2:20  And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;
Eph 2:21  In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:
Eph 2:22  [In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit].

And Peter:

1Pe 2:10  Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

You see the servant was not to bring back all the family, only Rebekah. Jesus Christ will not be a “polygamist”. He will not marry multiple religions or many churches. He will only marry the Bride, The Gentile Bride, the one espoused to Him. There is only one Church. It consist of every believer on Christ Jesus in every so called religion.

The Bible says:

Eph 5:26  That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,
Eph 5:27  [That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish].

Again Paul wrote:

2Co 11:2  For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: [for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ].

There was really only one more question. There is a question we all have to answer before we can step into the wedding dress.

Rom 10:11  For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.

As Matthew Wrote:

Mat 10:32  [Whosoever] therefore shall confess me before men, him [will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven].

Luke Wrote:

Luk 12:8  Also I say unto you, [Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God]:

Paul wrote:

Php 2:11  And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Luke again:

Act 8:37  And Philip said, [If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God].

Rebekah said “I WILL GO”

In the words of Jesus:

Luk 14:33  So likewise, [whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple].

Rebekah left her own home and her own family and without seeing Isaac to become his wife.

To be in the Church you will leave everything behind, and without ever have seen Christ to become the Bride.

The Apostle John wrote of John the Baptist:

Joh 3:27  John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.
Joh 3:28  Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him.
Joh 3:29  [He that hath the bride is the bridegroom]: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.

When this servant had left it was Abraham whom was called Master. On his return it is Isaac that is call Master.

Jesus said:

Joh 13:3  Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God;

This wedding of the Church will take place just after the Rapture of the Church:

Rev 19:7  Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and his wife hath made herself ready.
Rev 19:8  And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.
Rev 19:9  And he saith unto me, Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb. And he saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God.

Are you going to be in the wedding?

Rebekah was not an unwilling pawn in this matter. She had a decision to make. Rebekah was acting with great faith and her faith would be rewarded. When Isaac finally met Rebekah they loved each other and Rebekah became Isaac’s ONLY WIFE. Isaac had a wife and the promises that God made to Abraham were secure for another generation.

What will you do when the Holy Ghost comes with His convicting message about Jesus Christ?

I know what I did. I love you Jesus.

Amen

God Always Keeps His Promise

God Keeps His Promise

Text: Genesis 21-23

Focus Text: Genesis 21:2-6; 22: 1,2,8,10-18

Our thought: God cannot lie and will always keep His Word. Walk by “faith” and always depend on His “promises”.

As “born again” children of God we must know that our salvation depends on God. Not only on Him but “the promises He makes”! That’s where I place my faith. My faith is in His Word and that’s where all our faith should be.

The Bible says:

1Jn 5:11  And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
1Jn 5:12  He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
1Jn 5:13  These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; [that ye may know that ye have eternal life], and [that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God].

We will learn of the faith of Abraham in these chapters and we need to pay attention. Abraham left everything in Ur of the Chaldee(Iraq) to follow and serve the Lord.

You know there are many today living in Iraq who are learning to trust in the Lord Jesus and they are being persecuted to death as false religion will always try to stamp out the truth of God. They may also have to leave everything behind.

Abraham struggled in his faith just as we all do but God needed for Abraham to be sure in his own heart. God already knew! We can learn much in the Book of Genesis for it is the basis of the entire Bible. The Doctrine of God opens up to us all in this great Book of the Bible.

We must learn from every past victory because everyday will be a new challenge for us. Satan will never quit until God throws him into that lake of fire. It is always best to trust in the Word of God just as it is written (rightly divided). When we add our own theology to God’s word we are bound for trouble.

After 25 years in Canaan land Sarah at the age 90 was the recipient of one of God’s miracles. She bore the “promised” seed. This the seed where from that seed would follow to the “One Seed”, Jesus Christ.

What we see when we study God’s Word is that God will do everything He says He will do. It’s not so much the time of events in the Bible but the TIMING of events in the Bible. We may never understand and it will be that way until the Rapture of the Church.

2Co 1:20  For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

The promises of God are many. To Abraham, to Israel, to the New Testament Church, and to ALL His Children. God will never break a single one of His promises.

The Bible says:

Gal 4:4  But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
Gal 4:5  To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
Gal 4:6  And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.
Gal 4:7  [Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ].

And again:

Mat 1:18  Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
Mat 1:19  Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a publick example, was minded to put her away privily.
Mat 1:20  But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
Mat 1:21  And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: [for he shall save his people from their sins].
Mat 1:22  Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
Mat 1:23  Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
Mat 1:24  Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:
Mat 1:25  And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.

**********Our text:

Gen 21:2  For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.
Gen 21:3  And Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bare to him, Isaac.
Gen 21:4  And Abraham circumcised his son Isaac being eight days old, as God had commanded him.
Gen 21:5  And Abraham was an hundred years old, when his son Isaac was born unto him.
Gen 21:6  And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me.

*****There is no haphazardness with God. There is no hit and miss with God. He does
all things according to His schedule.

The Bible says:

Rom 11:33  O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!
Rom 11:34  [For who hath known the mind of the Lord? or who hath been his counsellor?]

*****He called him Isaac: The Name Isaac means “laughter”. No one explains this better than Sarah herself.

“And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me.”

You know God had made her laugh when He said she would bear this child.

Gen 18:11  Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age; and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.
Gen 18:12  Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying, After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?

To Abraham it was a laugh of joy. Sarah said every time she called her son Isaac, she would remember her mocking laugh that had become a laughter of joy in her old age. A laughter of unbelief had become a laughter of joyous celebration.

There is nothing wrong or irreverent about laughing in the Spirit of God:

1Pe 1:7  That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
1Pe 1:8  Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, [yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory]:
1Pe 1:9  Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.

You see it was God that brought laughter to the tent of Sarah.

******Abraham was obedient and circumcises Isaac on his eighth day. Remember also a baby on the eighth day is lest susceptible to infection than at any other point in their lifetime.

The Number 8: Is the number of new beginnings in the Bible. Pentecost the eighth day the beginning of the Church among many others. The Lord’s day is the eighth day. The 8 saved souls in the ark just to name a few.

Abraham was one hundred years old when Isaac was born. He had been traveling in Canaan land for 25 years.

Why did God take so long?

In typology the world would see that Isaac could only have come by miracle of God. You see Jesus Christ could also only come by a miracle of God. The “virgin” birth.

So what is typology?

Really typology is a Bible story that has deeper “Spiritual truth”. This time of Abraham and Isaac lay the ground work for Spiritual truth throughout the Bible.

*****Isaac as a “type” of Christ:

1.) Isaac was prophesied: Gen 17:16

Christ: Isa 7:14  Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

2.) There would be an appointed time: Gen 21:2

Christ: Gal 4:4  But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,

3.) It would be by Heavenly messenger: Gen 17:19

Christ: Mat 1:21  And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.

4.) The miracle births: Gen 18:12

Christ: Luk 1:34  Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?

5.) They both, sons of prophesy: Gen 21:2

Christ: Joh 3:16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Joh 3:17  For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

This goes further and we will shortly but first let’s contrast Ishmael with Isaac according to God’s word.

Gal 4:22  For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman.

Ishmael was a picture or type of the flesh or a result of fleshy control. Isaac was a picture of spirit or an example of life through Spiritual control.

Gal 4:23  But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise.

What are the works of the flesh?

Gal 5:19  Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Gal 5:20  Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Gal 5:21  Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

What are the works of the Spirit or the Fruits?

Gal 5:22  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Gal 5:23  Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Gal 5:24  And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
Gal 5:25  If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
Gal 5:26  Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

We may try to imitate the fruits of the Spirit in our lives but only the Holy Spirit can make us spiritual. We can never bear the fruits of the Spirit by doing the works of the flesh.

The type of Isaac’s name meaning laughter is our joy that Christ Jesus brings to our lives.

When we operate in the flesh the results will always be failure and misery. Remember it was 13 years from the birth of Ishmael before God came back into the lives of Abraham and Sarah and gave them the victory. When we depend on Jesus we will always have victory. The Lord will allow us to experience life and endure failures UNTIL WE GET A FIRM HOLD TO THE TRUTH OF HIS WORD.

**********Our text:

Gen 22:1  And it came to pass after these things, that God did tempt Abraham, and said unto him, Abraham: and he said, Behold, here I am.
Gen 22:2  And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of.

Gen 22:8  And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.

*****”it came to pass”: This phrase is used 452 times in the KJV Bible. God wants us to know His Word will be just as He says it will. These things will come and they will pass by, in hope that we learn from them.

*****after these things: What things?

1.) Abraham had cast out Hagar and Ishmael
2.) God had saved the lives of Hagar and Ishmael
3.) Ishmael had gotten an Egyptian wife by his mother.
4.) Abraham had made the first peace treaty recorded in the Bible.

“Beersheba” means the well of the oath. The term “shaw bah” used here tells of the oath. It is said that to repeat the same promise seven times is a sign you mean it, it is an oath. Abraham had offered the seven ewe lambs as the sign of his covenant with the Philistine.

What all this means is that some time had passed and Isaac was no longer a small child. Some say he could have been in his early thirties. That could be true but I believe he was a teenager.

The word tempt used here does not mean God tempted Abraham with sin.

The Bible says:

Jas 1:13  Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

Tempt used in this passage means to try or prove a person. Presenting a choice to a person in hope he will make the right choice. To prove outwardly what is inward in the heart of man.

God proved to Abraham what was in his own heart. God already knew because God looks into the heart of man.

Human sacrifice was a well known practise of the Canaanites in the land where Abraham lived but there is no record of it among the ancestors of Abraham. Just ask true parent, such as Job, to give up Isaac would be as giving up all that he had, for he certainly would have done that for the life of his child Isaac. Abraham understood the covenant of God. There could be no more complete test of devotion to God than was laid on Abraham.

How often will God put our faith on trial? Our faith is our witnessing ability. Our faith is on trial every day we live for Jesus. Our faith is precious. Without it we are lost in a dying world.

Peter wrote:

2Pe 1:1  Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, [to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ]:

*****The word Moriah means “chosen of Jehovah”

1Ki 11:36  And unto his son will I give one tribe, that David my servant may have a light alway before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen me to put my name there.

Mount Moriah is the location of the City of Jerusalem and the exact location of the threshing floor of Ornan, which became the Temple Mount. Golgotha is also in this area(Mount Calvary).

To Abraham what God had promised, He was about to take away.

Let’s watch the faith of Abraham and the picture of Isaac: (God will provide “Himself” a lamb).

1.) He rose early: Gen 22:3

Heb 11:8  By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

2.) He took two witness: Gen 22:3

Mat 18:16  But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.

3.) Isaac a picture of Christ:

Rom 8:31  What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
Rom 8:32  He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?

4.) The third day:

1Co 15:3  For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures;
1Co 15:4  And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

5.) Abraham told his two witnesses that [he and the boy would return], would come again. Gen 22:5

You will search hard to find a verse that shows more faith than this statement of Abraham.

Act 1:10  And while they looked stedfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;
Act 1:11  Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? [this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven].

6.) Abraham believed God was able to raise Isaac from the dead even if he slay him and burn him for a sacrifice to God.

Heb 11:9  By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, [the heirs with him of the same promise]:

7.) Abraham believed that the promise could not fail:

Gen 21:12  And God said unto Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad, and because of thy bondwoman; in all that Sarah hath said unto thee, hearken unto her voice; [for in Isaac shall thy seed be called].

God was planning the future around Isaac:

Heb 11:17  By faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac: and he that had received the promises offered up his only begotten son,
Heb 11:18  Of whom it was said, That in Isaac shall thy seed be called:
Heb 11:19  [Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from whence also he received him in a figure].

8.) The work of Christ:

Eph 1:11  In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:
Eph 1:12  That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.

Eph 3:10  To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of God,
Eph 3:11  According to the eternal purpose which he purposed in Christ Jesus our Lord:
Eph 3:12  In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.

9.) The picture of the cross: Gen 22:6

Joh 19:17  And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:

2Co 5:21  For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

He carried the weight of sin!

1Pe 2:24  Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

10.) Isaac was old enough to know yet he humbled himself in obedience to his father: Gen 22:7,8

Php 2:5  Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
Php 2:6  Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
Php 2:7  But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
Php 2:8  And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Php 2:9  Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
Php 2:10  That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
Php 2:11  And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

11.) Where is the Lamb: Gen 22:7,8

Joh 1:34  And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
Joh 1:35  Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples;
Joh 1:36  And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!

Mat 26:39  And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

12.) The appointed place the altar: Gen 22:9

Luk 9:51  And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem,

Mar 10:33  Saying, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes; and they shall condemn him to death, and shall deliver him to the Gentiles:
Mar 10:34  And they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again.

Joh 10:30  I and my Father are one.

Joh 4:34  Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.

13.) It’s all about faith:

1Jn 5:4  For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

Heb 11:6  But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God [must believe that he is], and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

This is the faith Abraham had!

Jesus said to his disciples:

Mat 17:20  And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

We have seen the faith of Abraham in God. How do we compare?

God is freely willing to give us all things if we only believe!

Rom 8:32  He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, [how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?]

You see Isaac would have been insufficient as a sacrifice for any sin but his own and it would have required his death.

God would never have allowed Abraham to sacrifice Isaac:

The Bible says:

Lev 18:21  And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech, [neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God]: I am the LORD.

Isaac was saved from death and in typology was received back to life.

Jesus Christ was delivered from death, Hell, and the grave.

Rev 1:18  I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

The soul of Jesus never saw corruption:

Act 2:27  Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

Jesus arose on that third day:

Mar 10:34  And they shall mock him, and shall scourge him, and shall spit upon him, and shall kill him: and the third day he shall rise again.

***********The title “Jehovah-Jireh”:

The phrase means “God will see” Gen 22:14 says “In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen”.

To put this perspective it says “God will see to it”. In other words “The Lord will provide”.

*****We can see that the angel was watching over Isaac all the time. They had the safety of Isaac under control. The angels watch over every child of God and they did Jesus also.

Mat 26:53  Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?

Abraham had developed through these trials and his years into a mature child of God.

The Bible says:

You know God is tired of meaningless sacrifices:

Isa 1:11  To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the LORD: I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he goats.

He wants the real thing:

Isa 1:16  Wash you, make you clean; put away the evil of your doings from before mine eyes; cease to do evil;
Isa 1:17  Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.

He says it again He will never be pleased with the works of man:

Mic 6:7  Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?
Mic 6:8  He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?

God does not ask to much of us, certainly nothing unreasonable:

Rom 12:1  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

This is the sacrifice of devotion God seeks in our lives. He doesn’t ask us to be an Abraham. He does ask us to have faith and believe in His Word.

Let’s pray!

God Judges The Sin Of Men

God Judges The Sin of Men

Text: Genesis 18-20

Focus: Genesis 18:17-21. 23-26; 19:1-9, 24. 25

As we continue in our study in Genesis we find it has been about three months since the Lord last appeared to Abraham. Remember from chapters 16 to chapter 17, 13 years had passed that Abraham was out of fellowship with the Lord. Since that last time Abraham had circumcised every male that traveled with him. The family, those he had bought and strangers that stayed with him. The Lord appeared again to Abraham as he set in the shadow of his tent in the heat of the day.

We will learn some great truths in these passages as throughout God’s word.

1.) God’s love is universal
2.) God is no respecter of persons
3.) God’s hatred for sin is also universal

Throughout time man’s perversion to sin has often seen the judgment of God.

Three times in the Book of Ezekiel God say’s:

Eze 7:4  [And mine eye shall not spare thee, neither will I have pity: but I will recompense thy ways upon thee], and thine abominations shall be in the midst of thee: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

Why does God say that?

Eze 7:5  Thus saith the Lord GOD; An evil, an only evil, behold, is come.

God does not just get mad and do things when He sees sin. No God is longsuffering, praise the Lord, or we would all be destroyed.

Psa 86:5  For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.

But God also has these words for those that are stubborn:

Pro 29:1  He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

Sin will be judged and punished. Sin is never without consequences. The righteousness and justice of God “demands” that He judge sin.

Psa 89:14  Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face.

What we see in these passages is an example of how God will spare the faithful who are living in a sinful generation. God is ready willing and able to grant mercy to all those that call upon Him. God is also willing to remove those that sin in powerful and dramatic ways.

Remember God saved Noah and his family out of the sinful world before the flood.

1Pe 3:20  Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, [wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water].

God will spare the faithful. If we look around us we can see that our world is a lot like Noah’s world. A world whose “every imagination of thoughts of his heart was only evil continuously.”

God will show His friendship to Abraham and His judgment upon sin all in the same day.

THIS IS THE PRIVILEGE OF FAITH!

Just a few of the scriptures that prove the “Rapture” will happen before the tribulation period besides these great examples God shows us in His Word.

Psa 2:12  Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. [Blessed are all they that put their trust in him].

Rom 5:9  Much more then, [being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him].

1Th 1:10  And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, [even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come].

1Th 5:9  [For God hath not appointed us to wrath], but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

Heb 2:3  [How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation]; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

Lot had been a poor witness for the Lord. Lot only showed us how important it is for the Church to NOT be a part of the World.

2Co 6:17  Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
2Co 6:18  And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

The way to know the divine purpose about the world is not to be mixed up with its schemes and speculations but walking in communion with Christ. We must be a true witness to the Lost! We cannot be that witness if we partake in their ways or condone their life styles. Even the lost want no part of a hypocrit!

The Bible says:

Rom 12:1  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
Rom 12:2  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

When we yield ourselves to the Spirit that abides in us we will not be conformed to this world! The closer the believer walks with God, the more he will know of God’s mind about everything. The secrets of the Lord are with those who fear Him.

God says:

Pro 14:34  Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.

Everyone in Hell are now believers. When the Church is taken out, the world will be full of non-believers. Some will go through the “tribulation” period and be saved but not any that sat in a Church will be among them.

2Th 2:10  And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; [because they received not the love of the truth], that they might be saved.
2Th 2:11  And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:
2Th 2:12  That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Our Text:

Gen 18:17  And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do;
Gen 18:18  Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?
Gen 18:19  For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.
Gen 18:20  And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous;
Gen 18:21  I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know.

Why did Abraham need to know? God explains Himself in verse 18. Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation. The Bible had not been written at this time. The Nation of Israel would be the nation to bring forth the preserved word of God. God wanted Abraham to have no doubts about the blessings of God and also the wrath of God.

You see God does not have some secret agenda!

Amo 3:7  Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

In other words there is nothing that God is going to do that He has not told us!

2Ti 3:16  All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
2Ti 3:17  That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.

God spoke through the prophets and then Jesus, who spoke through the Apostles.

Heb 1:1  God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
Heb 1:2  [Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son], whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

Listen to what Jesus Says:

Joh 17:15  I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
Joh 17:16  They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
Joh 17:17  Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
Joh 17:18  As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
Joh 17:19  And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
Joh 17:20  Neither pray I for these alone, [but for them also which shall believe on me through their word];
Joh 17:21  [That they all may be one]; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, [that they also may be one in us]: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

Why did Abraham need to know all these things?

********Verse 19:

“For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment”;

The Lord is omniscient. He has universal knowledge or knowledge of all things; infinitely knowing; all-seeing. Only God has this trait, not Satan, not the angels and certainly not mankind.

You see all these things are written for us:

1Co 10:11  Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

These things are written so we do not fail!

Heb 4:11  Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.

*******God will punish sin! (verse 20)

“because their sin is very grievous”

1.) (the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah)

This means that though they did not know God there were many people in Sodom and Gomorrah that were suffering for the sin of these two cities. We will learn about a certain sinful life style shortly but we can be sure that murder and mayhem and all other social crimes were happening also in these cities.

Way back in chapter four when Cain murdered Able:

Gen 4:10  And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of [thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground].
Gen 4:11  And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother’s blood from thy hand;

God hears these things:

In the time of Moses:

Exo 3:7  And the LORD said, I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and [have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters]; for I know their sorrows;

God hears and sees the affliction of all people!

Psa 22:24  For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted; neither hath he hid his face from him; [but when he cried unto him, he heard].

Psa 106:44  Nevertheless he regarded their affliction, [when he heard their cry]:

Even when the lost are oppressed by others God will respond with His wrath. There are two days ahead for this world that are sure:

Isa 63:4  For the day of vengeance is in mine heart, and the year of my redeemed is come.

You see Christ Our Lord knows the feeling of pain!

Isa 52:14  As many were astonied at thee; [his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men]:

And He knows the temptation of sin!

Heb 4:15  For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.

God wanted Abraham to know all these things and also to witness them with his own eyes.

***********verse 21:

There is another main thing God wanted Abraham to know.

“I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it”

Did God need to come down and see for Himself the sin of these cities. Of course He did not but He wanted Abraham to know that He does not take any one else’s word for what people do. He wanted Abraham to know that He would not punish anyone on the hearsay of another. God will always check things out for Himself!

After all:

Rev 12:10  And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

We need to know that God will always see for Himself before He destroys any people. He never takes anything Satan says to be the truth. Praise the Lord! We would all be in Hell if God was any other way.

*********Our text:

Gen 18:23  And Abraham drew near, and said, Wilt thou also destroy the righteous with the wicked?
Gen 18:24  Peradventure there be fifty righteous within the city: wilt thou also destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein?
Gen 18:25  That be far from thee to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked: and that the righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from thee: Shall not the Judge of all the earth do right?
Gen 18:26  And the LORD said, If I find in Sodom fifty righteous within the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes.

What does the rest of this chapter tells us about Abraham?

He was a prayer warrior. He shows in type “Our Intercessor”. Abraham pleads with God for any righteous that might still be alive in these cities.

1Ti 2:3  For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
1Ti 2:4  Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
1Ti 2:5  [For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus];
1Ti 2:6  Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.

What does this show us about God?

He will not ever destroy the righteous with the lost! There will be a “rapture” of the Church before God brings His wrath to this Earth.

Our God is truly righteous!

God will not break His Own Word!

Joh 7:24  Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

**********Our text:

Gen 19:1  And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;
Gen 19:2  And he said, Behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant’s house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, Nay; but we will abide in the street all night.
Gen 19:3  And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat.
Gen 19:4  But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter:
Gen 19:5  And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.
Gen 19:6  And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him,
Gen 19:7  And said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly.
Gen 19:8  Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof.
Gen 19:9  And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.

Now we should know that Lot did not know these two men were angels in human form. It was the custom at that time for the important men of the city to be sitting at the gate to welcome the traveler, to do business with the merchant, or to simply greet all others and tell them where they could stay or refresh themselves. This is also where the business of the city was conducted.

Rth 4:1  Then went Boaz up to the gate, and sat him down there: and, behold, the kinsman of whom Boaz spake came by; unto whom he said, Ho, such a one! turn aside, sit down here. And he turned aside, and sat down.
Rth 4:2  And he took ten men of the elders of the city, and said, Sit ye down here. And they sat down.

What we find here in Sodom is that only Lot sat at the gate. We also find that Lot knew how much the morals of this city had degenerated and it seems Lot still tried to protect any visitors. Lot had not been much of a witness to these people but Lot was still a righteous man that tried to do right.

2Pe 2:7  And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:
2Pe 2:8  (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)

We can see in this the results of our testimony when we run with the immoral crowd. We are called to witness to them but not to fellowship with them and certainly not to live amongst them if we can help it.

Were these angels looking to see if there were at least ten righteous men. No, I don’t think so. God was doing some things to show Abraham, Lot and all those that would read and study the Bible that He was truly a Righteous Judge but the Lord came down to do a certain thing.

Jud 1:7  Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

This is our example of what happens when immorality and sin dominate this Earth and the Righteous have been removed. Let there be no doubt this world we live in will be judged by the Lord.

Did you know this is the very first time we see the word “unleavened” in the Bible. This word will be used  60 more times in the scriptures. Just the mention of this word shows us Lot knew the wickedness he lived in and he did not want to discuss it with these angels, these visitors.

1Co 5:8  Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

We can see in verse four that the wickedness of this city came to the residence of Lot and they did not come to be friends but to push their way of life onto these strangers.

Now what we read in these next passages come straight from the word of God. If we believe in the Salvation of the Bible and the God of the Bible then we must believe that God considers this lifestyle to be a grievous sin.

Gen 18:20  And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grievous;
Gen 18:21  I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come unto me; and if not, I will know.

The truth of this city and the others mentioned will be shown to the World as an example of what God calls grievous sin. These things do not change because our God does not change. We see this lifestyle increasingly grow and in most cases it is pushed upon other societies as being just a way of life. We can see how this lifestyle is pushing it’s way into the Church. We need to see what God says and abide by what He says!

To repent is to walk away from all evil lifestyles and to obey God this includes the gay lifestyle. No lost person can become a Christian without being Born Again.

Our example of repentance:

Mat 21:28  But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard.
Mat 21:29  [He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went].
Mat 21:30  And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not.

There must be a change of mind and a new direction! God’s rules and He is the only One who can forgive us! It doesn’t matter what we think!

The truth of Christ:

Joh 3:3  Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

How does this take place:

1Pe 1:18  Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
1Pe 1:19  But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
1Pe 1:20  Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
1Pe 1:21  Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.
1Pe 1:22  Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:
1Pe 1:23  [Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever].
1Pe 1:24  For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:
1Pe 1:25  But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

There is no place for this lifestyle in the family of God. Neither is there a place for any who do not repent from every wicked lifestyle:

1Th 2:10  Ye are witnesses, and God also, how holily and justly and unblameably we behaved ourselves among you that believe:
1Th 2:11  As ye know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father doth his children,
1Th 2:12  That ye would walk worthy of God, who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory.
1Th 2:13  For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

There is no place for unrepented sin in the House of God! No Christian can find his pleasure and profit in the world and at the same time bear effectual testimony against the world.

If people would just get a clear picture of Hell in their heads, they would want a means of escape and they would not hesitate to give up their old lifestyles. Now we cannot yet be perfect but we should try our best to live a life as Jesus led in His short years because He to is our example.

Luk 16:22  And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;
Luk 16:23  [And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments], and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.
Luk 16:24  And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, [that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame].

It’s easy to see this man was in torment and he was now a believer, but he would still spend eternity in a torment that would never change.

It is easy to see the truth of Romans chapter one in these wicked men:

Rom 1:24  Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
Rom 1:25  Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
Rom 1:26  For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
Rom 1:27  And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
Rom 1:28  And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
Rom 1:29  Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
Rom 1:30  Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
Rom 1:31  Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
Rom 1:32  Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

What else do we see?

In gaining great worldly influence, Lot had lost all influence and spiritual power, even over his own family. When Lot offered up his children, he showed he would still do anything to have influence in this wicked city.

The people that lead this lifestyle will turn on you if you not stand with them and just like the world does now, THEY SAY WE HAVE NO RIGHT TO JUDGE THEIR ACTIONS.

We do not have to be judges to stand up for “right” when the World is wrong!
The World will try to silence everyone that goes against them.

Now Lot sees the plan of God though he didn’t understand the reality of it.

Sodom would be destroyed.

It’s not discussed in this lesson so much but look what the angels told Lot in verse 22. They cannot destroy Sodom and Gomorrah until Lot is out of the city and at a safe distance.

The Word of God tells us:

1Th 4:13  But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
1Th 4:14  For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
1Th 4:15  For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
1Th 4:18  Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

There can be no tribulation on this world until all the children of God are removed from it.

Our Text:

Gen 19:24  Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven;
Gen 19:25  And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.

God literally turned Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes. Let’s go back for a moment.

Gen 13:10  And Lot lifted up his eyes, and [beheld all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered every where], before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the LORD, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar.
Gen 13:11  [Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan]; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other.

No one has ever found a trace of these two cities. Abraham viewed the destruction from many miles away. There is no well watered plain of Jordan anymore, at this time.

Gen 19:27  And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the LORD:
Gen 19:28  [And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace].

The daughters of Lot thought the whole world had been destroyed:

Gen 19:31  And the firstborn said unto the younger, Our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth:
Gen 19:32  Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father.

It is believed that the waters of the Dead Sea flowed into place of Sodom and Gomorrah and their remains are under the Dead Sea.

This our example of future judgment

Jud 1:7  Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

These historical accounts teach us that God will judge the perversion of contemptuous people. When we are tempted to sin we must learn to rely on the Word of God to keep us strong in our faith.

Jesus Christ warned that it would be more tolerable for the residents of Sodom and Gomorrah in judgment than for those who had heard and rejected His Message

Mat 10:14  And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.
Mat 10:15  Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

God HATES sin but God still LOVES the sinner. Through the power of Jesus every soul can change and become a new creature.

2Co 5:17  Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
2Co 5:18  And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
2Co 5:19  To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
2Co 5:20  Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.
2Co 5:21  For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

We do not have to yield to the temptations of sin and we certainly do not have to degenerate into a lifestyle that dishonor our bodies and violates the clearly revealed will of God!

Let’s pray!

God Directs, Despite Impatience

GOD DIRECTS, DESPITE IMPATIENCE

Our Text:

Genesis 16; 17

Focus:

Genesis 16:1-4, 15, 16: 17:1-5, 15-21

We need to know that God will direct our lives in spite of our own impatience. If we truly trust Him, we will trust His timing also! God is perfect and His timing of events is perfect.

Impatience is, according to the Webster’s dictionary, “Uneasiness under pain or suffering; the not enduring pain with composure; [or the absence of expected good].

Impatience begins when we do not trust God! Disaster begins when we think God needs our help to bring about His will in our lives. I have stated many times the only duty of mankind is to obey God and keep His commandments.

Ecc 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

God expects no less from us and expected no less from Abraham. God has a purpose for everyone of us that know Him. Those that do not know Him as Savior will also fulfill God’s purpose. Does that mean that there are people God will not save, NO! God will save all that repent and believe on Him.

Jesus Christ said these words:

Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, [that whosoever] believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
Joh 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

The Apostle Peter said these words:

2Pe 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Thank God he is not impatient, but He will fulfill the words He gave us. The entire Word of God will be fulfilled just as it is written. Men can try to rewrite God’s word all they want to but it does not and will not change the message God gave to this Nation of Israel to bring to us. This nation has fulfilled their purpose of bringing us God’s Word. The proof of that is that we have the Bible and we have had it for a few thousand years now. That can be said of no other book. We are also called to fulfill a purpose.

Rom 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

We need to get busy about the Master’s work and patiently wait on the Lord:

Psa 37:7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
Psa 37:8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.

Heb 10:36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.
Heb 10:37 For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.

He is a coming and I am a going, are you?

No human wisdom can match the wisdom of Our Father Who Art in Heaven!

Our Text:

Gen 16:1 Now Sarai Abram’s wife bare him no children: and she had an handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar.
Gen 16:2 And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the LORD hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.
Gen 16:3 And Sarai Abram’s wife took Hagar her maid the Egyptian, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to her husband Abram to be his wife.
Gen 16:4 And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.

Gen 16:15 And Hagar bare Abram a son: and Abram called his son’s name, which Hagar bare, Ishmael.
Gen 16:16 And Abram was fourscore and six years old, when Hagar bare Ishmael to Abram.

We cannot condone what Sarah did. What she was asking Abraham to do was to commit adultery. There is not one place in the Bible where God says this is OK to do so.

The guideline God gave us was in this very book and the very first marriage:

Gen 2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and [shall cleave unto his wife]: and they shall be one flesh.

Cleave would mean to stick like glue to his wife. Jesus sticks like glue to the Bride of Christ, the Church.

There is no mention of more than two people and one of them is man and the other a woman. We know this is true. In the time of Abraham there were some customs, (some of man’s faulty wisdom), that:

1.) A son could be adopted from a servant that was born in his household if his wife bore no children.

Gen 15:2 And Abram said, Lord GOD, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus?

Now there is nothing wrong with adoption if it is done for the right reasons. After all, all God’s children are adopted into His family.

Eph 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
Eph 1:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
Eph 1:5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
Eph 1:6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
Eph 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
Eph 1:8 Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;
Eph 1:9 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:
Eph 1:10 That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:
Eph 1:11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:
Eph 1:12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.

2.) A wife could offer up one of her maids and the child would be counted as from the wife. We call that a surrogate mother in our day.

Surrogate Mother: Is a relationship in which one woman bears and gives birth to a child for a person or a couple who then adopts or takes legal custody of the child. In surrogate motherhood, one woman acts as a surrogate, or replacement, mother for another woman, sometimes called the intended mother, who either cannot produce fertile eggs or cannot carry a pregnancy through to birth, or term.

Gen 16:2 And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, the LORD hath restrained me from bearing: I pray thee, go in unto my maid; it may be that I may obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.

Remember God had said the child would come from the bowels of Abraham. God meant from the union of Sarah and Abraham but this is when man’s wisdom get’s him in trouble.

Gen 15:4 And, behold, the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir.

God will never go against His own true word and many men will try to tell us that these things are OK under certain circumstances which is simply not true.

1Jn 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

There are many questions about the surrogate even when the coming together of the persons are not involved such as artificial insemination. If what any man says goes against what God says in His word then that man is a liar. It does not matter whose custom it is. Just because everyone else is doing it, it does not make it right in the eyes off God. Motherhood is also a blessing of God not to be taken so lightly.

*****In verse three God gives us a time line. It had been ten years since God first called Abraham out of Ur of the Chaldees(Iraq).

*****Verse four:

When we do not take a stand for God’s word we place everyone around us in jeopardy. When Sarah first approached Abraham about this foolish thing, he should have stood up for what was right and what was right was to obey God. Adultery is a sin against God and a sin against our own bodies. The results of this seemingly innocent mistake has affected the Orient for three thousand years. This mistake in judgment has affected the entire world and is real evident in these last days. Both Sarah and Abraham were a part of this evil. It is possible Hagar may not have had any choice in this matter but she should have resisted as much as possible. Now people do this for money and this could have been the case with Hagar but we will not know these things for sure.

When Hagar realized she had conceived she turned upon Sarah and despised her. She had probably been a faithful servant up until this time. Sin has a way of causing problems quickly. Hagar had done something that Sarah had never been able to do. Hagar was filled with pride. This is also a sinful act. Sin abounds when not addressed and repented.

But thank God for His grace:

Rom 5:19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.
Rom 5:20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. [But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:
Rom 5:21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord].

God’s word always holds true from the time of Adam.

You see God knows man needs but one wife. Does that mean one wife at a time? That is possible but only after a death of the spouse or a Biblical sound divorce. God does not expect couples to live in abuse of one or the other.

1Ti 3:2 A bishop then must be blameless, [the husband of one wife], vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

*****Verse five is not part of our lesson but we can see that Sarah laid the blame upon Abraham. She was partially right. Abraham was the man of the house and he was the man of God’s promise. He should have been a man of God’s word but they were both to blame.

Also not part of this lesson but let’s take a moment with another first time in the Book of Genesis:

The Angel of the Lord: Genesis 16:7

This phrase is used 52 times in the Old Testament. Many believe that these are “theophanies”. This means an appearance of the Lord Jesus Christ prior to His incarnation. A careful reading of the text in most cases would seem that this true. But in any case this special angel played an important part in the history of Israel.

1.) He wrestles Jacob: Gen. 32:24-30
2.) He redeems Jacob: Gen 48:16
3.) He spoke to Moses from the burning bush: Ex. 3:2
4.) He protected Israel at the Red Sea: Ex. 14:19
5.) He prepared Israel for the promised land: Ex, 23:20-23; Ps. 34:7; Isa. 63:9; 1 Co. 10:1-4
6.) He commissioned Gideon: Jdg, 6:11
7.) He ministered to Elijah: 1 Ki. 19:7
8.) He reassures Joshua: Josh 5:13-15
9.) He saves Jerusalem: Isa. 37:36
10.) He preserves three Jewish boys: Dan 3:25

Here the angel of the Lord finds and comforts Hagar. Hagar is caught in the middle of sin, she is not spiritual, she is hateful, proud, disrespectful, and a poor mother. Is she rejected of God? No, God loves her and comes to help her.

You know God scraped me out of the bottom of the barrel one day and comforted me and saved me. Thank You Jesus for paying my debt on that cross. I could not have done that myself. I’m clean because I’m washed in the blood of Jesus.

Col 1:13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
Col 1:14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
Col 1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
Col 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
Col 1:17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
Col 1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
Col 1:19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;
Col 1:20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.
Col 1:21 And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled

Why does God tell us these things?

1Jn 5:11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
1Jn 5:12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
1Jn 5:13 [These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God].

*****Our lesson continues:

verse 15

Ishmael is born. Before he is born we already know what kind of man he will be:

Gen 16:12 And he will be a wild man; his hand will be against every man, and every man’s hand against him; and he shall dwell in the presence of all his brethren.

The meaning of the name “Ishmael” is “to hear intelligently and with understanding of circumstances”. The name also implies compassion. Every time Ishmael heard his name he would know the God had heard the plight of his mother. God had understood her and acted to care for her.

Ishmael was raised in a family of strife and he would shortly know he would not be the one to inherit his fathers riches.

We do not have good thoughts of Ishmael when we read the Bible but we must notice the turmoil in his young life and just as God had said he rebelled to being a wild man. Do we wonder why our own children rebel. Sometimes it can be what happens at home. Our home life should start with, “What Would Jesus Do”. This is still the question we should have before we proceed to do foolish things.

verse 16

God gives us another time line. At the birth of Ishmael, Abraham had been in Canaan for eleven years.

Gen 12:4 So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.

*****Our Text:

Gen 17:1 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.
Gen 17:2 And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly.
Gen 17:3 And Abram fell on his face: and God talked with him, saying,
Gen 17:4 As for me, behold, my covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations.
Gen 17:5 Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee.
Gen 17:6 And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.

If you do not think sin has an influence on your relationship with God, in just one verse 13 years has gone by before God again makes contact with Abraham. God will always remember His promises! But Abraham had gotten the Heavenly Hickory for 13 years. I believe he was now ready to do as he was told.

“to walk in the perfect ways of God”

It is important for the child of God to daily try to be blameless and sincere in our faith:

Php 2:13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
Php 2:14 Do all things without murmurings and disputings:
Php 2:15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;

Abraham was at his lowest spiritual point. He had sinned and was out of fellowship with God. He was also out of fellowship with his family.

We wonder sometimes why answers don’t come from our prayers:

Eph 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
Eph 4:31 Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
Eph 4:32 And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

God will answer the child of God but in His time frame:

Psa 106:15 And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul.

In spite of all this God is gracious and forgives and restores: Psalm 51

Psa 51:1 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.

God had a special purpose for Abraham and Abraham had missed the blessings of God for thirteen years. There would be more tests coming. God already knew the outcome but Abraham would need sure faith to fulfill the plan of God.

Rom 4:16 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,
Rom 4:17 (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.

The Hebrew word for appear used here is “raah” indicates a visible occurrence. It is translated 351 times “saw”, 306 times “seen” and 162 times “appeared”.

The “Lord”, Hebrew “Jehovah”, is used 6412 times in the Old Testament but there is another title of God we see for the first time in this verse. “El Shaddai” THE ALMIGHTY GOD. The meaning of this title comes from the idea of One having so much power as to change the unchangeable, the power to overcome and to destroy with irresistible force. God does the impossible and Abraham and Sarah would now see the impossible happen in their own lives.

(verse three)

“Abraham fell on his face”

We can pray to God in any position. The Apostle Paul said:

1Th 5:17 Pray without ceasing.

We can pray standing, sitting, on our bed, driving our car and most any where else but when we fall down on our knees we are humbling our selves and without saying a word we are admitting that we are nothing and God is everything. Abraham had prayed many times I’m sure, but God had not spoken to him for 13 years.

As soon as Abraham showed this purest form of reverence, God began speaking to him. God reminded Abraham that He had not forgotten the Covenant that He had made.

The Hebrew word used for God in this verse is “Elohim”. In Genesis verse one we find that this is the God of creation, the Creator of all things.

(verse four)

God says: “this is my covenant”

To us all that read and study our Bible, God wants us to know that He (God) started this covenant and it would be He (God ) that would see that this covenant was kept. You see God was going to do this and not Abraham and Sarah.

WE ARE BUT TOOLS IN THE MASTERS HANDS.

An old Preacher once told a young Preacher that asked “How can I better serve God” to which he responded, “GET OUT OF GOD’S WAY”.

Abraham, Sarah, and Hagar had not hindered the work of God! They had only lost out on many blessings!

(verse five)

Why the name change? Abraham had stumbled on the fact that he would be the father of many nations. The extent of the covenant of God with him had an impact on him. Abram means “exalted father”. That reflected his role as the patriarch of a great family and nation but that was not the intention of God. Abraham’s heritage would include all the nations on this Earth. Abraham means “father of multitudes”. A more appropriate title.

(verse six and seven)

1.) Abraham was not only the father of the Hebrew nation, Isaac then Jacob and his twelve sons where later there were many kings: Matthew 1:1-17
2.) Abraham was the father of the twelve princes of Ishmael: 1 Chron 1:28-31
3.) After the death of Sarah, Abraham remarried and from Keturah: 1 Chron 1:32-33
4.) We cannot forget Esau and his nation
5.).) And the many Gentile Nations who have embraced the faith of Abraham through Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Gal 4:28 Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise.

What we must realize is that the Covenant God made with Abraham would be to the child born of Abraham and Sarah we know as Isaac. This is an everlasting covenant to the children of Israel. Many so called teachers teach that God is finished with Israel. If this is true then God would have told a lie to Abraham.

My God Does Not Lie!

Tit 1:1 Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;
Tit 1:2 In hope of eternal life, [which God, that cannot lie], promised before the world began;

He Would Not Be God if He Did So!

*****Our text:

Gen 17:15 And God said unto Abraham, As for Sarai thy wife, thou shalt not call her name Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be.
Gen 17:16 And I will bless her, and give thee a son also of her: yea, I will bless her, and she shall be a mother of nations; kings of people shall be of her.
Gen 17:17 Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?
Gen 17:18 And Abraham said unto God, O that Ishmael might live before thee!
Gen 17:19 And God said, Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish my covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him.
Gen 17:20 And as for Ishmael, I have heard thee: Behold, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; twelve princes shall he beget, and I will make him a great nation.
Gen 17:21 But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, which Sarah shall bear unto thee at this set time in the next year.

Before we move on we should mention that “circumcision” is [the sign] of faithfulness with Abraham and the Hebrew people, (Israel). This is long before the law of Moses time by about 500 years. Like tithing, circumcision did not originate with Moses nor did tithing. This is the sign of the covenant that Israel must keep. If the Jew represents God’s people then what is a Jew.

The Apostle Paul writes:

Rom 2:28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh:
Rom 2:29 But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

If you are a child of God and search for His praise, you will be circumcised of the heart and in spirit. Not by any law!

To the Church “baptism” is such a sign. It has nothing to do with salvation but it is a sign that you have submitted to your covenant with God.

Jesus Christ was both circumcised and baptized to show us all the He was not above His Own Word.

Luk 2:25 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.
Luk 2:26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.
Luk 2:27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,

Mat 3:13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
Mat 3:14 But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
Mat 3:15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.

Another thing is circumcision on the eighth day: It wasn’t until the Twentieth Century until doctors clearly understood why circumcision should be done on the “eighth day”.

In 1935, professor H. Dam proposed the name “vitamin K” for the factor in foods that helped prevent hemorrhaging in baby chicks. We now know vitamin K is responsible for the production (by the liver) of the element known as prothrombin. If vitamin K is deficient, there will be a prothrombin deficiency and hemorrhaging may occur. Oddly, it is only on the fifth through the seventh days of the newborn male’s life that vitamin K (produced by bacteria in the intestinal tract) is present in adequate quantities. Vitamin K, coupled with prothrombin, causes blood coagulation, which is important in any surgical procedure. Holt and McIntosh, in their classic work, Holt Pediatrics, observed that a newborn infant has “peculiar susceptibility to bleeding between the second and fifth days of life…. Hemorrhages at this time, though often inconsequential, are sometimes extensive; they may produce serious damage to internal organs, especially to the brain, and cause death from shock and exsanguination” (1953, pp. 125-126). Obviously, then, if vitamin K is not produced in sufficient quantities until days five through seven, it would be wise to postpone any surgery until some time after that. But why did God specify day eight?

On the eighth day, the amount of prothrombin present actually is elevated above one-hundred percent of normal—and is the only day in the male’s life in which this will be the case under normal conditions. If surgery is to be performed, day eight is the perfect day to do it. Vitamin K and prothrombin levels are at their peak.

You see God knows more about us than any doctor because as the Creator, He wrote the “owners manual”. (Psalms 13)

*****Why did Abraham laugh?

Joh 8:56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.
Joh 8:57 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?
Joh 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

Jesus said that Abraham finally realized that the Messiah would come from a descendant of a child by he and Sarah.
Sarai and Sarah: Both names mean to have dominion. “Sarai”(princely) means she would have her own house, her own family, to be a mother but “Sarah”(noble woman or princess) means much more. Sarah was to be the Mother of Nations to include the gentile nations.

Verse 16 the word nations is the Hebrew word “goy” which means foreign nations. These speaks of all descendants of Abraham that were not Hebrew.
Abraham was 99 years old at this time and he fell down with overwhelming joy!
Abraham was not ready to forsake Ishmael but we see that God’s plan for salvation would not involve Ishmael. Ishmael would still be blessed and he and all his descendants still had the option of serving God but he chose another path. Many have chosen that path since.

Deu 10:15 Only the LORD had a delight in thy fathers to love them, and he chose their seed after them, even you above all people, as it is this day.
Deu 10:16 Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked.
Deu 10:17 For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward:
Deu 10:18 He doth execute the judgment of the fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger, in giving him food and raiment.

*****But My Covenant is with Isaac:

Why is this important to Israel?

Rom 9:4 Who are Israelites; to whom pertaineth the adoption, and the glory, and the covenants, and the giving of the law, and the service of God, and the promises;
Rom 9:5 Whose are the fathers, and of whom as concerning the flesh Christ came, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen.
Rom 9:6 Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:
Rom 9:7 Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.
Rom 9:8 That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.
Rom 9:9 For this is the word of promise, At this time will I come, and Sara shall have a son.

You might say then, why is this so important to the Church?

Rom 9:22 What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:
Rom 9:23 And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,
Rom 9:24 Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?
Rom 9:25 As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved.
Rom 9:26 And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God.

The Apostle Paul wrote to the Galatians:

Gal 4:22 For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman.
Gal 4:23 But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise.
Gal 4:24 Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar.
Gal 4:25 For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children.
Gal 4:26 But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all.
Gal 4:27 For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.
Gal 4:28 [Now we, brethren, as Isaac was, are the children of promise].
Gal 4:29 But as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, even so it is now.
Gal 4:30 Nevertheless what saith the scripture? Cast out the bondwoman and her son: for the son of the bondwoman shall not be heir with the son of the freewoman.
Gal 4:31 So then, brethren, we are not children of the bondwoman, but of the free.

By accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior, YOU BECOME FREE OF THE BONDAGE OF SIN!

It was important for the Jews that they be considered the Children of Promise and they are but, what of the Church?

Paul writes again:

Gal 3:7 Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.

You see it is by faith just as Abraham had that the Church belongs to God. That is because of the work of Christ on the cross at Calvary.

Without faith we cannot please God!

Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that
he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

There is no better choice for any of us than to understand the Word of God and to live
by it. We cannot comprehend it all but we must have faith that God will do as He
says. By studying God’s word we can see how His promises have always come to pass
and they always will. Nothing is impossible for God! God will honor His Word!

Paul wrote:

2Ti 4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
2Ti 4:8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give
me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

So let’s just wait on the Lord!

Let’s Pray!

God Calls A Follower

Text: Genesis 12-15

Focus: Genesis 12:1-7; 13:8:14-18; 15:6

What some people have a hard time believing is that God uses people to get things done in this world. Man is God’s greatest creation. We have studied some already. Adam, Noah, and Job, all important to the plan of God. We will now spend some time with Abraham. Abraham is recognized by God’s children and the Muslim world as a great man. The Book of Genesis is the book of the beginnings, we will see that the Bible says that Abraham was the first Hebrew. It is Abraham that is the father of the Hebrew nation we know as Israel. Abraham is also the father of the Arab nations. There is a family feud between the children that have Sarah as a mother and those that have Hagar as a mother. This feud has been going on for over 4000 years. The Children of Ishmael and Isaac will one day join hands but that will not happen in the Church age. We will find that God begins to form and work with this nation of Israel beginning in chapter 12. He will use this nation for specific purposes. This nation of Israel has many enemies in our day but let’s look at some of the things the Jew have contributed to the world before we call them our enemy.

A NOBLE PEOPLE: At least 178 Jews have been awarded the Nobel Prize, accounting for 23% of all individual recipients worldwide between 1901 and 2008, and constituting 37% of all US recipients during the same period. In the scientific research fields of Chemistry, Economics, Medicine and Physics, the corresponding world and US percentages are 27% and 40%, respectively. (Jews currently make up approximately 0.25% of the world’s population and 2% of the US population).

We will see that the Bible will show how God has used this great nation to be a blessing to the world and the world could not be the same place without the Jew.

God’s promise:

Gen 12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

We can see from the days of Abraham to the days we are in now that Israel has been a blessing. As one of the oldest nations on this Earth we can see the Prophecy of God will hold true.

If we as God’s creation would just accept the truth of God’s word, we would have a much clearer perception of what is going on in this world we live in. God does not hide things from us!

Amo 3:7 Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

What we saw that in Genesis chapters 1-11 was a period of about 2000 years but what we will see in the the remaining chapters 12-50 is a period of only about 280 years. Chapter 12 is the pivotal point in the Book of Genesis. We will see the covenant nation of Israel. We will see the origin and the calling out of a special people and a special nation to carry out God’s plan of redemption through the promised seed.

These people were no different than the rest of the world in fact they were worse than some:

Deu 7:6 For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth.

Deu 7:7 The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people:

Deu 7:8 But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

36 times God calls these people a rebellious people:

Eze 3:7 But the house of Israel will not hearken unto thee; for they will not hearken unto me: for all the house of Israel are impudent and hardhearted.

Eze 3:8 Behold, I have made thy face strong against their faces, and thy forehead strong against their foreheads.

Eze 3:9 As an adamant harder than flint have I made thy forehead: fear them not, neither be dismayed at their looks, though they be a rebellious house.

You see God has a purpose for all of us. The nation of Israel brought God’s Word to the world. The proof being the Bible itself.

Rom 3:1 What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision?

Rom 3:2 Much every way: chiefly, because that [unto them were committed the oracles of God].

Rom 3:3 For what if some did not believe? shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect?

Rom 3:4 God forbid: yea, [let God be true, but every man a liar]; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.

With Satan’s help the Nation of Israel ceased for a time but if you want to see prophecy fulfilled in our time all we need do is look at the rebirth of the Nation of Israel.

Isa 66:8 Who hath heard such a thing? who hath seen such things? Shall the earth be made to bring forth in one day? or shall a nation be born at once? for as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children.

May 14, 1948 this prophecy was fulfilled. Israel became a nation again to live in their own land. We see their battle to survive daily with our very own eyes. The world is foolish to not realize the HAND OF GOD!

Jesus Christ was a Jew. To hate the Jew is to hate the Word of God! To be saved is to be bathed in the Word of God!

Eph 5:25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

Eph 5:26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it [with the washing of water by the word],

Eph 5:27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

To say you are Christian and hate Israel you are denying the Word of God! Real faith is not based on feeling nor emotion. Real faith is accepting the promises of God. When we believe God then we should act on that belief. WE CANNOT IMAGINE THE WONDEFUL THINGS GOD HAS IN STORE FOR US BUT WE CAN GET AN IDEA BY TRUSTING IN THE TRUTH OF THE BIBLE. THAT’S WHY IT IS CALLED FAITH!

****Our Text:

Gen 12:1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:

Gen 12:2 And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:

Gen 12:3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

If you do not believe the study of Genesis and Abraham is important to the Church then let’s see what the first deacon of the Church had to say:

Act 7:2 And he said, Men, brethren, and fathers, hearken; The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran,

Act 7:3 And said unto him, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and come into the land which I shall shew thee.

Act 7:4 Then came he out of the land of the Chaldaeans, and dwelt in Charran: and from thence, when his father was dead, he removed him into this land, wherein ye now dwell.

Act 7:5 And he gave him none inheritance in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on: yet he promised that he would give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, when as yet he had no child.

Act 7:6 And God spake on this wise, That his seed should sojourn in a strange land; and that they should bring them into bondage, and entreat them evil four hundred years.

We know at the end of those 4 hundred years began the Exodus from Egypt but, continue on to read from verse Act 7:7-54 for a short history lesson.

We can see it takes real “faith” to trust God completely. Do we have that kind of faith today? It takes real faith to be saved. THE SAME FAITH ABRAHAM HAD!

The Bible says:

Heb 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Heb 11:2 For by it the elders obtained a good report.

Heb 11:3 Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Abraham did not come from a godly family nor was there any part of the Church existing at that time:

The Bible says:

Jos 24:2 And Joshua said unto all the people, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Your fathers dwelt on the other side of the flood in old time, even Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nachor: [and they served other god]s.

It is the Jew among others that honor Abraham but they do not honor the New Testament of the Bible but we can find Abraham’s name 196 times in the Bible and that includes 74 times in the New Testament. Abraham is mentioned in every Book of the New Testament but Jude.

You know every child of God is called out just as Abraham was called:

1Th 2:12 That ye would walk worthy of God, [who hath called you unto his kingdom and glory].

1Th 2:13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, [but as it is in truth, the word of God], which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

Is there some great revelation? Maybe, sometimes, but it is more likely a visit to one of God’s churches or some child of God inviting you, or a gospel trac, or some witness of God’s people or you just stumble onto God’s word, among the many other ways God uses to call. If you are reading this lesson you have been called. Nothing happens in the world that does not fulfill God’s will and His purpose:

Rom 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, [to them who are the called according to his purpose].

Does God call just the Jew?:

Rom 9:22 What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:

Rom 9:23 And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,

Rom 9:24 Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, [but also of the Gentiles]?

God calls “WHOSOEVER” WILL BELIEVE!

1Pe 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

1Pe 2:10 [Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God]: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

1Pe 5:10 But the God of all grace, [who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus], after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.

1Pe 5:11 To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

That call can only come through Jesus Christ, there is no other way to reach God:

Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, [I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me].

Joh 14:7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.

We already know that Abraham was called to begin the nation of Israel but the purpose of this nation was to preserve the word of God for all people. They have fulfilled that purpose and God will keep His promises to them. It is the purpose of the Word of God to establish the Church of Jesus Christ and that began at Pentecost just after the ascension of Jesus Christ back to Heaven.

It is the Holy Spirit that brought life to the Church because it is the Holy Spirit that brings life to God’s children.

Rom 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

*****Verse 3:

One of the most important scriptures in the Bible is Genesis 12:3. All nations and peoples of the World need to take notice.

GOD SAID HE WOULD BLESS EVERYONE THAT BLESSED THIS NATION OF ISRAEL. Most of the World seems to hate this Nation of Israel. If you believe the Word of God then we need to believe what is written in this verse because it comes also with the “CURSE OF GOD”!

ALL FAMILIES WILL BE BLESSED IN CHRIST JESUS IF YOU BELIEVE. TO THOSE THAT DO NOT BELIEVE, YOU WILL SEE GOD’S WRATH!

Let’s review the seven promises of God:

1.) God said “I will make of thee a great nation”

2.) God said “I will bless thee”

3.) God said “I will make thy name great”

4.) God said “You will be a blessing to the world”

5.) God said “I will bless them that bless you”

6.) God said “I will curse them that curse you”

7.) God said “In you will all the families of the World be blessed”

The blessing to the world came in Jesus Christ!

Mat 1:1 [The book of the generation of Jesus Christ], the son of David, [the son of Abraham].

Gal 3:14 [That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ]; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

You will notice Abraham did’t have to say anything. This promise has no conditions. This promise does not require anything from Abraham except to Believe.

*****Our text:

Gen 12:4 So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.

Gen 12:5 And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother’s son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.

Gen 12:6 And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Sichem, unto the plain of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land.

Gen 12:7 And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded

Abraham forgot his age of 75 years. He laid aside the fact that he was rich and had few needs if any. He broke away from false religion and he left his family in what is now Iraq. Abraham believed God and left on a journey to the promised land.

This is the exact same thing we all will do when we believe in the promises of God. When we are born again into the family of God and do not place our faith in the unending power of God we are failing in our faith. We are strangers in this land. Our home is in Heaven. God will provide our needs. It may not be riches because our riches are in Heaven. If we leave all false religion we may have to leave our family behind but they have the same choice to make. They do not have to be left behind. We see that Sarah and Lot went with Abraham.

Our faith should encourage and influence others to follow God’s word and the leadership of the Holy Spirit!

Tit 2:7 In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity,

Tit 2:8 Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.

Php 3:14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Php 3:15 Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.

Php 3:16 Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.

1Ti 4:12 Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

Abraham stepped out on faith alone:

Heb 11:8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.

Heb 11:9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise:

Heb 11:10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

Abraham’s first stop along the way:

Sichem, also known as Shechem, Sychem,

Sichem means ridge

Shechem means a ridge, the neck(between the shoulders)

Sychem means ridge

All these being the same place and many important things would happen at this place in Palestine

Who is already in this land? We find the first use of the word Canaanite. We will learn a great deal more about the Canaanites later on. It will be some 600 years before Joshua finally wrestles this promised land away from the Canaanites. These Canaanites were the, Hittites, Amorites, Jebusites and many other clans. None of these are descendants of Abraham. Abraham chose this location to stop and worship the Lord and the Lord appeared unto him.

Here again we see another word that appears for the first time in the Bible, (Bethel).

Bethel means “House of God”. When we worship the Lord God Almighty as often as we can it should be in the house where He has placed His name.

Neh 1:9 But if ye turn unto me, and keep my commandments, and do them; though there were of you cast out unto the uttermost part of the heaven, yet [will I gather them from thence, and will bring them unto the place that I have chosen to set my name there].

And we should assemble more often in these end times:

Heb 10:25 [Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together], as the manner of some is; [but] (exhorting one another: and [so much the more], as ye see the day approaching).

Not in our lesson but in verse 9 we see that Abraham traveled further toward the south. In the travels of Abraham and others I should point out that “to the south” means south of Jerusalem and “to the north” means north of Jerusalem. This will stop some of the confusion of traveling when we remember directions will have Jerusalem as the place of origin. We must also remember Abraham never settled in any one place because he was looking for a city made by God. That city is New Jerusalem!

Heb 11:10 [For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God].

Rev 21:2 And I John saw the holy city, [new Jerusalem], [coming down from God out of heaven], prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

*****Our text:

Gen 13:8 And Abram said unto Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren.

Gen 13:14 And the LORD said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward:

Gen 13:15 For all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever.

Gen 13:16 And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered.

Gen 13:17 Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee.

Gen 13:18 Then Abram removed his tent, and came and dwelt in the plain of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and built there an altar unto the LORD.

Gen 15:6 And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.

In verse 13:8 we can see the answer to all the Church is in being in one accord. “let there be no strife, for we are all brethren”

Those that gathered at Pentecost were in one accord and 3000 were saved in the first church.

They continued daily in one accord and the Church grew daily. We of the Christian Church are all brothers in Christ. We are brothers because of Christ Jesus. If you know Jesus Christ as your savior you are my brother no matter where you live and call on the name of God. Jesus Christ is Lord to all whom believe.

WHY ARE OUR CHURCHES CLOSING THE DOORS? ******STRIFE.

Pro 28:25 He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the LORD shall be made fat.

Pro 28:26 He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.

God is not the author of strife or ill feelings nor hard feelings, no never! When these things are in the Church then somebody has failed to obey God! When these things happen, some will go the wrong way:

Gen 13:12 Abram dwelled in the land of Canaan, and Lot dwelled in the cities of the plain, and pitched his tent toward Sodom.

Lot was walking by sight and not by faith at this time in his life. We know he came to know God at some point in his life.

The Bible says:

2Pe 2:7 And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:

2Pe 2:8 (For that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their unlawful deeds;)

2Pe 2:9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:

How many of the Church do we hear of daily that have pitched their tents toward Sodom. No doubt that at this time Sodom and Gomorrah and the adjacent cities are the most immoral on the Earth.

Gen 13:13 But the men of Sodom were wicked and sinners before the LORD exceedingly.

The gay life style was one of these exceeding sins in these cities and we can see this lifestyle is growing in all the world. We need to pray and love them into the arms of Christ where they will find true love if they repent. Repent still means to walk away from a sinful life.

The Bible says to the Church:

1Jn 3:13 Marvel not, my brethren, if the world hate you.

1Jn 3:14 We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.

1Jn 3:15 Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.

1Jn 3:16 Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

Lot was foolish enough to separate himself from Abraham. Abraham was God’s man. We will see that Lot chose with his eyes and not with the Word of God. Lot lost all his family by his actions. We can see that when we choose what we think is the best of this life without looking unto God, without listening to the teaching of Jesus Christ we will find ourselves alone, our lives destroyed and our families broken. Divorce rates in the world are higher than they have ever been even in the Church. God had said to Abraham, “I will bless those that bless thee”. Abraham was the source of Lot’s blessing just as his descendant, the Messiah, THE LORD JESUS CHRIST is the place of blessings for all the World.

Verse 15:

There is a lot of argument over a very small piece of land that is called Palestine. There is no nation of Palestine and there never has been. The name Palestine has always meant “the land of the Hebrews”. For any other people to lay claim on this land is a slap of God’s face. As God always does He will honor His Word.

Exo 15:14 The people shall hear, and be afraid: sorrow shall take hold on the inhabitants of Palestina.

Exo 15:16 Fear and dread shall fall upon them; by the greatness of thine arm they shall be as still as a stone; till thy people pass over, O LORD, till the people pass over, which thou hast purchased.

Exo 15:17 Thou shalt bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of thine inheritance, in the place, O LORD, which thou hast made for thee to dwell in, in the Sanctuary, O Lord, which thy hands have established.

To battle against the true owners of this land is to battle with God.

Deu 20:1 When thou goest out to battle against thine enemies, and seest horses, and chariots, and a people more than thou, be not afraid of them: [for the LORD thy God is with thee, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt].

The covenant God made with Abraham will still hold true, when Jesus returns and that is sooner than most people realize.

Plain of Mamre:

Mamre is an important place in the Bible and this is the first time we hear of it.

1.) This is the place God made His key promise to Abraham.

2.) The Lord announced to Abraham and Sarah they would have a child.

3.) The burying place of Abraham and Sarah.

4.) Isaac dwelt there and was buried in the same cave of his father.

5.) Jacob was buried there with his fathers.

6.) David reigned at first from Hebron which is Mamre.

About a mile from the town of Hebron, up the valley, is one of the largest oak trees in Palestine. This, say some, is the very tree beneath which Abraham pitched his tent, and it still bears the name of the patriarch.

*****Gen 15:6

How simple can it get!

The plan of “salvation” is so simple that people overlook the simplicity of it.

2Co 11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

We must remember just what the serpent did. Satan twists and turns the pure word of God into something that is false. Why are there so many versions of the Bible? SO PEOPLE CAN FIND ONE THAT SUITS THEIR LIFE STYLE!

God has just a couple of rules:

1.) Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

2.) Mat 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

Mat 22:38 This is the first and great commandment.

3.) Mat 22:39 And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

There is only one duty of mankind:

Ecc 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: [Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man].

This means we must trust in the Word of God and that the Bible is the truth in ALL that it says. We do not need science or history to back up the Bible. The Bible backs up science and history so we can know that they are true.

Rom 3:4 God forbid: yea, [let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written], That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged.

Mankind has complicated the world since the time of the Tower of Babel and confusion still reigns in this world. God is not the “author”, (you know He wrote this Book) of confusion!

1Co 14:33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

The author of confusion is the Devil, Satan! He began with Eve and he even had me for most of my life but THANK GOD FOR JESUS CHRIST, THE WAY TO SALVATION.

There is no other way but Jesus!

Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Joh 14:7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.

What does the scripture say?

Rom 4:3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.

THIS IS THE ONLY WORK ABRAHAM DID FOR HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS, “HE BELIEVED”!

It does not get any easier that that.

Genesis 15:6 is one of the most important pieces of scripture in all the world and in the Bible.

1.) The Jew honor Abraham!

2.) The Arab world honors Abraham!

3.) The Christian Church honors Abraham!

Now if we could get together with this belief what would the world look like then. We would would squash the terrorist and all corrupt governments and there could be peace.

The first time the word “believed” is used in all the Bible(KJV) is in this verse of Genesis 15:6.

The Hebrew word “aman” says: to trust, to believe, to have faith, to be certain, to establish.

THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH!

Hab 2:4 Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith.

Rom 1:7 To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Gal 3:11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.

Heb 10:38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

In verse 15:2 we see the Hebrew word “adonay”(Lord) which means: to rule or govern as judge.

In verse 15:6 we see the Hebrew word “y hovah”(Lord) which means: the self existent one, the Eternal God of this entire world as we know it.

If you want to be a friend with the Almighty God then you must believe as Abraham.

Jas 2:23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and [he was called the Friend of God].

To believe other wise will make you an “enemy” of God.

When you believe in the substitutionary work of the Lord upon the cross and accept this for yourself then God counts your faith to you for “righteousness”.

There are so many things to cover in these chapters that we cannot in these short lessons. Please read and study the Book of Genesis. It is truly the Book of “The Beginnings”.

Remember it takes but “simple faith” to pleas God. God does not give reasons, HE GIVES PROMISES. Abraham did not respond with questions, HE RESPONDED WITH FAITH. Did Abraham do everything right? No He made many mistakes, BUT HE NEVER FORGOT WHO HIS GOD WAS AND WE CANNOT ALLOW THE NAME OF JESUS TO BE SMEARED IN THIS WORLD BUT WE MUST STAND UP FOR OUR FAITH. IT IS THE FAITH THAT CAN MOVE ALL MOUNTAINS!

Jesus said:

Mat 17:20 And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

Who is the Creator and Savior of this world?

1Jn 2:22 Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.

Abraham knew he was coming and Abraham believed. He is coming back for His Church at any time now. I believe do you?

GOD IS STILL CALLING FOLLOWERS!

Let’s Pray!

The Failure of Mankind

THE FAILURE OF MANKIND

Genesis 10:1-11:9

Focus: Genesis 10: 1,2,6,21,22,32, 11:1-9

Key Verse:

Gen 11:8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.

Gen 11:9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and [from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth].

The time line of these chapters is about 1800 years after creation or about 2200 years before the “virgin” birth of Jesus Christ. The history of the Tower of Babel is a pause in that history to show us how the world was scattered by the hand of God. God will always see that His “purpose” is fulfilled. The construction began on the Tower of Babel approximately 100 years after the flood. These people were again becoming immoral and spiritually ignorant and falling away from the truth of God. The flood had destroyed millions of people but it had not destroyed the sin nature of mankind that began from the fall of Adam.

Rom 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:

Rom 3:11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.

This sin nature can only be removed by the action of Jesus Christ:

Rom 6:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

Rom 6:7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.

Rom 6:8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:

Rom 6:9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.

Rom 6:10 For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.

So what are “Generations”? A single succession in natural descent, as the children of the same parents; hence, an age.

“Generations” is the heading of every chief section of the book of Genesis. When we see the word “generations” we will normally see one age ending and another beginning.

In Genesis 2:4:

The phrase “these are the generations of the heavens and of the Earth” means this is THE HISTORY.

History is an account of facts, particularly of facts respecting to nations or states; a narration of events in the order in which they happened, with their causes and effects.

In Genesis 5:1:

The phrase”the book of the generations of” means this is a family register, or the HISTORY of Adam.

This is where we see his descendants are traced down to Noah.

In Genesis 10:1:

The phrase “the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth” means the HISTORY of the way the Earth was populated.

What is “Genealogy”? A series of children or descendants from the same stock.

“the generations of the sons of Noah,” Shem, Ham, and Japheth, IS, The oldest and most accurate existing ethnological record we have in this world and it’s HISTORY.

What is Geography? Measuring out to the nations “the bounds of their habitation.” History, in ancient times, being based on genealogies.

Every human being that has ever lived is a descendant of Adam but we can also see that every human being that has ever lived is from the blood of Noah.

God saw fit to give the Earth another chance through Noah and his family and at least one pair of each animal that roamed this Earth. Remember all other living creatures were destroyed by the flood because the world had turned away from God.

We see the very same thing going on now in this world, and after the Rapture of the Church, the stage is set for God to destroy this Earth again. The only thing lacking would be the promise God made to Israel and He will fulfill it during the 1000 years that will come after the 7 year tribulation period. The children of Israel will see the Church is gone and they will immediately see that they were wrong and turn to God.

Rom 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.

Rom 11:26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:

Rom 11:27 For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.

If not for that God would destroy this world at that time. Remember what God told Abraham. If there are at least ten He would hold off His wrath.

Gen 18:32 And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten’s sake.

God does not change so His Word still holds true. God will not destroy this Earth until He has removed His Church,(the Bride) at the Rapture and every other Saint of God through the 1000 year period. God is long suffering but He will not wait forever for you to make up your mind. Time grows short with every tick of the clock.

*****Our text:

Gen 10:1 Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood.

Gen 10:2 The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras.

Most all Bible critics agree at least in this one place of the Bible. It is known as the table of nations. It is an accurate historical document as well as the truth of the Word of God. As Bible believers we need to accept all, ALL, the Word of God as it is written, rightly divided.

The New Testament says:

Act 17:24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;

Act 17:25 Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;

Act 17:26 [And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation];

Act 17:27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:

Act 17:28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

From the seven sons of Japheth come the “Gentile” nations. Gentile means “heathen” many times in the Bible but it simply means all others that are not Israelite. It can also mean a foreigner to the nation of Israel.

These people settled Central Asia, Persia(Iran,Iraq), Greece, Spain, Russia, The Old Thracian Empire and all of Europe. America was developed from this family of Japheth.

These will include the Indo-Europeans and the Asian Aryans.

*****Our text:

Gen 10:6 And the sons of Ham; Cush, and Mizraim, and Phut, and Canaan.

The sons of Ham include the Babylonians, the southern Arabs, the Ethiopians, and the Egyptians.

The Name Cush means “Black”. He is the father of the Black people. We know also of Seba’s descendants or the Sabeans. The Bible says that during the Millennium the Sabeans will come to worship the Lord Jesus Christ during His Earthly reign.

Isa 45:11 Thus saith the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker, Ask me of things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me.

Isa 45:12 I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded.

Isa 45:13 I have raised him up in righteousness, and I will direct all his ways: he shall build my city, and he shall let go my captives, not for price nor reward, saith the LORD of hosts.

Isa 45:14 Thus saith the LORD, The labour of Egypt, and merchandise of Ethiopia and [of the Sabeans, men of stature, shall come over unto thee, and they shall be thine]: they shall come after thee; in chains they shall come over, and they shall fall down unto thee, they shall make supplication unto thee, saying, Surely God is in thee; and there is none else, there is no God.

Isa 45:15 Verily thou art a God that hidest thyself, O God of Israel, the Saviour.

This most likely present day Yemen. But it is Nimrod that is singled out from all the other sons. The phrase “he was a mighty hunter” really means that he was the first “Tyrant” on this Earth.

Babel is Babylon, Erech (Urak) is south east of Babylon, Accad(Akkad) is just north of Babylon. It is also written that is was Nimrod that built Nineveh on the Tigris river along with Calah.

The prophet Micah called this land the land of Nimrod:

Mic 5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

Mic 5:3 Therefore will he give them up, until the time that she which travaileth hath brought forth: then the remnant of his brethren shall return unto the children of Israel.

Mic 5:4 And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God; and they shall abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth.

Mic 5:5 And this man shall be the peace, when the Assyrian shall come into our land: and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men.

Mic 5:6 And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and [the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: thus shall he deliver us from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land], and when he treadeth within our borders.

We may also note that the Philistine of the Bible are descendants of Ham through Casluhim and to not forget Canaan the father of the Canaanites. Maybe the most immoral of the people on this Earth.

These were settled on the land that God gave to Israel:

Exo 13:11 And it shall be when the LORD shall bring thee into the land of the Canaanites, as he sware unto thee and to thy fathers, and shall give it thee,

Exo 13:5 And it shall be when the LORD shall bring thee into the land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, which he sware unto thy fathers to give thee, a land flowing with milk and honey, that thou shalt keep this service in this month.

*****Our text:

Gen 10:21 Unto Shem also, the father of all the children of Eber, the brother of Japheth the elder, even to him were children born.

Gen 10:22 The children of Shem; Elam, and Asshur, and Arphaxad, and Lud, and Aram.

We find their locations to be Elam: Elam was an ancient civilization located in what is now southwest Iran.

We find Asshur: This is Assyria.

We find Arphaxad:

Gen 10:24 And Arphaxad begat Salah; and Salah begat Eber.

Gen 10:25 And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of one was Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided; and his brother’s name was Joktan.

Luk 3:36 Which was the son of Cainan, which was the son of Arphaxad, which was the son of Sem, which was the son of Noe, which was the son of Lamech,

It is from Arphaxad that the line to Jesus Christ will come.

What we see in Eber is that the word Hebrew comes from this name.

What we see in Peleg is during his lifetime the Earth was divided:

What we see is that God first scattered all the people after the flood. They refused at the Tower of Babel but God confused their tongues and they scattered as He had said.

Gen 11:8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.

It is after they were scattered that God divided the Earth:

Gen 10:32 These are the families of the sons of Noah, after their generations, in their nations: and by these were the nations divided in the earth after the flood.

The Earth went through some major changes after the flood but the continental divide happened in the days of Peleg. Peleg lived for 239 years plenty of time for the work of God. This division becomes clear with the confounding to the languages and the scattering of the people. The division is both ethnic and Geographic. The breaking up of the deep and the great water pressure of the flood, plus God’s handiwork at Babel brought about the continental divisions.

The name Peleg means: Earthquake!

Get you a map and cut the water out of the way and you will see the puzzle.

You know Noah lived for 350 years after the flood. From the flood to the death of Peleg was about 240 years. When we get to Heaven it will be good to talk to Noah because Noah saw it all!

Before we move on we can also see that a son of Aram was named Uz. This name means “fertile land”. We will be studying the Book of Job shortly and Job was from the land of Uz.

The Bible says:

Job 1:1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil.

We may not know for sure but I would say that Job was a descendant of Shem through his son Aram and his son Uz. We do know that Job was a God fearing man. It was Shem who followed and obeyed God and who is in the line of Adam to Jesus Christ. We also know that that line went through Arphaxad and not Aram.

*****Our text:

Gen 11:1 And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.

Gen 11:2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.

Gen 11:3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.

Gen 11:4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

What do we know about language?

Those who dismiss the Genesis explanation of the origin of language do not necessarily have a better explanation for the origin of language. The Bible says the first man on earth could speak and understand language (Genesis 2:16, 20). Then, as we have seen, the Bible gives a reasonable explanation of how other languages came about.

Note that the Bible does not say that God created a whole pile of exotic languages from scratch at Babel. It says He confounded or confused the one language that everyone originally spoke. So the elements of grammar of that original language would still be there, and similarities in many words and expressions would be an obvious outcome.

Language appeared abruptly. This fact seems totally alien to the idea that humans evolved over millions of years from ape-like animals. There are no human-like languages among apes, and what evolutionists believe to be our closest ancestors are completely incapable of making speech like we do (for example, the hypoglossal nerve canals in chimp are only half as wide as in humans. These nerves supply the muscles of the tongue and hyoid bone).

What we know is that the majority of language experts agree that all languages are similar in many ways and all of them developed essentially the same way. The evolutionist cannot explain away this truth because there has never been any proof at all of language development in animals. They don’t have the internal organs that can make language happen.

It is the Bible that gives the history of language!

We first see that these people moved eastward from Ararat.

Mesopotamia is generally credited with being the first place where civilized societies truly began to take shape. Mesopotamia is the region of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in southwestern Asia. The region extends northwestward from the Persian Gulf through the center of modern Iraq. It includes the eastern part of Syria and a small part of southeastern Turkey, where the two rivers have their sources. The name Mesopotamia, Greek for “land between the rivers,” was given the region by Alexander the Great. It has been called the “cradle of civilization.”The Land of Shinar is a region in Mesopotamia, the plain between the Tigris and Euphrates.

In verse three we see the rebellion against the word of God:

The Name “Nimrod” means “rebellion”.

Gen 10:8 And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth.

Gen 10:9 He was a mighty hunter before the LORD: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the LORD.

Gen 10:10 And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.

What we see is even after the flood, when the memory of it should still be fresh, the sin nature of mankind rebelled against the Word of God. When these people reached this place to be known as Babylon they decided they had gone far enough.

God had said to Noah:

Gen 9:1 And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth.

Gen 8:16 [Go forth] of the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons’ wives with thee.

Gen 8:17 Bring forth with thee every living thing that is with thee, of all flesh, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth; that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and [be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth].

God did not say to stop and pick out a nice spot to build a city. This a group who decided to do things their way. Nimrod was an evil tyrant ruler and he found a way to control these people. Nimrod would try to do things his way.

The Bible says:

Pro 14:12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

They chose brick and not stone. We know it is God that made all the stone. They said “LET US” decide our own future and IGNORE the Word of God. The people before the flood had “ignored” the word of God and died. We will see the MERCY of God as He chose to not destroy the human race again at this time. What we can see as this world goes forward that THE WORLD MORE AND MORE HAS DECIDED TO IGNORE THE WORD OF GOD.

When Nimrod commanded these to build this Tower of Evil, he needed a tremendous work force. We can see immediately these people were very intelligent but by speaking one language they became the target of false religion because of this evil Nimrod. Nimrod has been followed by many who would try to dominate this world, yet the world just sits back and allows it to happen.

Soon after Nimrod, came the Pharaohs. We know of Nebuchadnezzar and Cyrus, and Darius, and Alexander the Great and the Caesars and Napoleon, and Adolf Hitler. We see the many that would try if they had the capability now and all we here out of every one of our own presidents and other world leaders is the phrase “A NEW WORLD ORDER”. Yes there are those as we speak that would rule the world if they could. It will happen with the soon coming Antichrist. The world is ready for him. The biggest deterrent at the Tower of Babylon and in our day is the fact that we all still speak different languages and this one thing makes it hard to get everyone under one roof but the walls of language are falling everyday.

How can so called intelligent people become so foolish to follow such evil men? Look around at the leaders of our nations and listen to what they are saying. Really listen don’t just accept what you hear others say.

It has been a long goal of the United Council of Churches and Rome to bring every one under one roof. Satan used Cain and Nimrod to do his evilness. It’s not so hard to see that Satan is still active in the politics of this world.

The VOTE of every Christian is a precious tool if we would just use it to do the right thing!

Just as every false religion that exist today, Nimrod and his followers were using the wrong building material. Mankind builds with brick and slime on sinking sand. Nothing will ever last on such a shaky foundation.

Daniel prophesied of our day when he wrote:

Dan 2:40 And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise.

Dan 2:41 [And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters’ clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay.

Dan 2:42 And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken.

Dan 2:43 And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.]

Dan 2:44 And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.

False religion will have it’s day:

Rev 14:8 And there followed another angel, saying, Babylon is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.

Judgment will come to false leaders and false prophets:

2Pe 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and [bring upon themselves swift destruction].

2Pe 2:2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

2Pe 2:3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

God builds with the “TRUTH”:

Isa 28:16 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.

1Pe 2:6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

1Co 3:11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.

1Co 3:12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;

1Co 3:13 Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.

1Co 3:14 If any man’s work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.

These that followed Nimrod had chosen a false path to Heaven. Every false religion has their own path to Heaven. The Muslim even go so far to teach innocent children that they can go to Heaven by strapping on a bomb and murdering others. There is only one way to Heaven period:

Joh 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: [no man cometh unto the Father, but by me].

Joh 14:7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.

1Jn 5:13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; [that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God].

Joh 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;

Joh 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and [the truth shall make you free].

THESE SIMPLE TRUTHS ARE IGNORED IN THIS WORLD.

THIS TIME OF GRACE IS RUNNING OUT!

THE MERCY OF GOD WILL TURN INTO THE WRATH OF GOD NO MATTER WHAT THOSE LIBERAL PREACHERS PREACH AND NO MATTER WHAT YOUR FALSE RELIGION TELLS YOU.

IT’S ALL ABOUT JESUS!

Israel also failed:

Rom 9:30 What shall we say then? That the Gentiles, which followed not after righteousness, have attained to righteousness, even the righteousness which is of faith.

Rom 9:31 But Israel, which followed after the law of righteousness, hath not attained to the law of righteousness.

But Israel has an unfulfilled covenant of God but mankind would be foolish to try to go through what they will go through. It’s now, this age that is the day of “SALVATION”.

*****Our text:

Gen 11:5 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.

Gen 11:6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.

Gen 11:7 Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.

Gen 11:8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.

Gen 11:9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

God’s answer to rebellion this time again was His Grace! God came down not because He didn’t know what was happening but God will always make the first move to bring us back to Him. You see it is God that reached down from Heaven and pulled me out of this mirery clay of sin and the filthy slime of this world of sin and SAVED MY SOUL. He will do the same for everyone that comes to Him with an open heart and calls on Him with their own mouth.

Rev 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

Jesus Christ stands at the door of your heart but you have to open it to let Him in.

When God came down to this evil tower what did He see?

Jer 7:23 But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.

Jer 7:24 [But they hearkened not, nor inclined their ear, but walked in the counsels and in the imagination of their evil heart, and went backward, and not forward].

Sin likes company!

Just because others are doing things it does not make it right!

Exo 23:2 Thou shalt not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shalt thou speak in a cause to decline after many to wrest judgment:

Isa 30:1 Woe to the rebellious children, saith the LORD, that take counsel, [but not of me]; and that cover with a covering, [but not of my spirit], that they may add sin to sin:

Without causing any bodily harm to even one soul GOD BROUGHT JUDGMENT TO THE WORLD AGAIN!

We do not know if the families of Shem were following Nimrod at this time but we do know of Job who was probably a descendant of Shem because he lived in Uz a son to Aram.

These people would now separate and scatter throughout the world not because they would obey God but because they sought out others that they could understand and then distance themselves from those they could not understand.

God will have His WILL done regardless of what we think. If you are avoiding the will of God you are placing yourself in reach of the “Heavenly Hickory”. If you are avoiding the known will of God which is His Word, then you are in reach of His WRATH.

You see God can use destructive means as in the flood and God can use other means such as the confusion of language but what we truly see is that it is God that sits on the throne and He will have His way. This shows us that God is much more powerful and mighty than mere men in spite of what men think!

You see whatsoever that is born of God will over come this world:

1Jn 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.

THAT VICTORY IS OUR FAITH IN THE ALMIGHTY GOD. THE GOD OF THE BIBLE!

It’s best we remember who is in charge:

Ecc 12:1 Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;

Ecc 12:2 While the sun, or the light, or the moon, or the stars, be not darkened, nor the clouds return after the rain:

Ecc 12:3 In the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those that look out of the windows be darkened,

Ecc 12:4 And the doors shall be shut in the streets, when the sound of the grinding is low, and he shall rise up at the voice of the bird, and all the daughters of musick shall be brought low;

Ecc 12:5 Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets:

Ecc 12:6 Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern.

Ecc 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

Let’s pray!
